Bobby Layne was great, but hardly jersey-retiring worthy. I mean retiring numbers in college is usually dumb anyway but come on.

You say some stuff that is a very very special brand of stupid.

I went down to 6 wins after the Sark/Ojomo tweet and then back up to 10 wins after watching Ewers make two practice throws.  Situation is very fluid.

Guess this is still off season-thread ??

Freshman are here       (May 30th)

What to expect from Freshmen   (May 29th)

(May want to update thread title @BurntOrange&White ?? )

Good info so cross-posting info from @OB3

Quote

OB3:  Wells was listing height and weight for incoming lineman

  • Banks 6’5 320
  • Campbell 6’4 317
  • Williams 6’6 350
  • Robertson 6’4 302
  • Neto 6’4 285 (they had him that back in the fall, and he looks a lot bigger than that now unless he was below that in the fall)

Don’t think he said anything on Agbo

Summer off-season workouts start tomorrow 😋

Bobby Layne?

...you mean the guy who graduated from Texas in 47, was the record holder for the program for most career pass completions for almost 40 years, passing yards for 40 years, lowest interception rate until the 80s, most QB wins in a career until VY passed him in 2005, held the record for most TDs in a game until passed by Ricky in 97, most career TD passes, most points scored in a game. he was the first ever number retired

he has to have what is a record of being elected into the state halls of fame for 3 states (Texas, Penn, Michigan.) ranked #52 in Sporting News 1999 list of 100 greatest players ever.

oh yeah and he was a hell of a baseball player too, to put it mildly.

come on, man.

Nah fuck that guy. /hebiious

Texas welcomes summer enrollees to campus

By TAYLOR ESTES 14 hours ago

The Longhorns welcomed in a number of fresh faces over the weekend with the remainder of the 2022 signing class making the move to Austin, Texas.

Texas football previously welcomed 14 mid-year enrollees earlier this spring, and has since seen a wave of new Longhorns settle in on campus leading up to summer workouts.

Twenty-one new faces from the 2022 signing class are set to be on campus this summer for offseason workouts, including 18 out of high school — five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell, five-star offensive lineman Kelvin Banks, four-star offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu, four-star edge J'mond Tapp, four-star wide receiver Brenen Thompson, four-star defensive lineman Kristopher Ross, four-star safety Austin Jordan, four-star offensive lineman Malik Agbo, four-star edge Derrick Brown, four-star offensive lineman Cameron Williams, four-star defensive lineman Zac Swanson, four-star edge Ethan Burke, three-star linebacker Trevell Johnson, three-star offensive lineman Connor Robertson, three-star athlete Xavion Brice, three-star athlete Savion Red, three star kicker Will Stone and two-star long snapper Lance St. Louis — and three players from the transfer portal — four-star Alabama transfer wide receiver Agiye Hall, three-star James Madison transfer linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey and three-star Iowa State transfer wide receiver Tarique Milton.

I always thought it was dumb that TCU had Sammy Baugh and Davey O'Brien's numbers retired. I mean LaDanian Tomlinson ran for way more yards in the NFL.

Seeing as Troy Omeire has torn his ACL each of his first 2 fall camps at UT, how realistic he ever lives up to the hype he was receiving during 2020 Fall Camp? I notice nobody ever talks about how he looked during 2021 Fall Camp before the 2nd ACL injury.

On Tuesday, the now complete 2022 team took to the meetings rooms and field for the first time. Different from previous years, the coaches were also in attendance for two brief windows in accordance with the new NCAA rules that allow coaches up to two hours of classroom and two hours of field time per week with the players.

The day started off with meetings that included first-day install. This mimicked the beginning of spring ball and is designed as a refresher for players who went through spring, but more importantly, as an introduction to the new arrivals.

After meetings the players took to the field for individual work. This includes both drills and going over what was just discussed in the meetings.

Once that portion was over, the coaches departed and player-led 7 on 7 took place. This isn’t just running around and throwing the ball. This bloc also featured teaching points from meetings and drills. It’s fair to say it’s coordinated.

While the skill position players do 7 on 7, the trench players will work on individual drills longer before doing one on ones.

In the absence of coaches, the team broke into 1s and 3s and 2s and 4s. That way the younger guys received coaching from more experienced players.

After a break, the freshman returned for running and lifting. They were with the whole team until this point, where they were separated. This is probably so Torre Becton and the S&C can more closely monitor technique, effort, and offer more individualized coaching.

Once the freshman were done, the rest of the team ran and lifted with the skill players on one side of the weight room and bigs on the other.

It’s way, way too early to get an idea of what to expect from individual players, but one source who saw the players over the weekend said, “The first thing that jumps out is the size of the OL. They’re so big. From a looks standpoint, they look like they can play day-1 and they haven’t even touched a weight yet.”

Numbers we have for new arrivals (so far):

LB Diamonte Turner-Dorsey - 2
CB Austin Jordan - 4
OLB Derrick Brown - 9
WR Brenen Thompson - 11
LB Trevell Johnson - 25
OL Devon Campbell - 52
C Connor Robertson - 62
OL Malik Agbo - 67
OT Kelvin Banks - 78

Today the players will only lift and run before repeating Tuesday‘s schedule on Thursday.
