Stewart Mandel is a finger fucking doofus…if anyone thought that rev share money was going to be a salary cap they are an even bigger finger fucking doofus. If anything, the rev share money acts more as a salary floor for big programs than any cap, for football. That article was acting like paying players outside of rev share is some illicit scheme or workaround, no it’s common sense and what the entire damn NIL law was about in the first place. How are we this long into it and people STILL don’t get it

Apparently our own HC doesn’t know the difference either. IMG_7625.jpeg

Thanks for the thoughts. The original HWH team getting the original IP out into the open and getting the longform IRS approval were instrumental in all of this. That's @SquishMitten @RGBIII @SydneyCar

Outside of unifying all initiatives under one umbrella, which wasn't a small feat for the parties involved, there are two really big things here: 1) All players in all sports will be making money

I went to the tournament and the gala. Kind of obligated on it and to pay for it, or part of it. It was all well done and a ton of money was raised. We’d committed to a nut for this new cycle for full

I'm beginning to get a hunch that Sark isn't as smart as he believes himself to be. We keep hearing he's a wizard on offense, and yet no wizardry has happened. He's a good recruiter, but he's also a shitty evaluator.

He does seem weirdly dialed in after missing the CFP, like actually pissed (his own doing), so all we can do is hope he doesn't get lackadaisical and start popping players on the ass with towels and playing grab ass.

There is a cap that schools aren’t following the rules about. NIL is different and not part of cap. He’s technically right.

Sark definitely sucks my guy. We should hire a real coach like Charlie strong or maybe tom Herman. Guy has his faults but we’re on a pretty good 3 yr run regardless of what we all want which is perfection from some of you.

Why stop there? Bryan Kelly and Chip Kelly (no relationship outside of the bedroom) are tan, rested and ready.

Northwestern hired Chip as OC

Damn. That's actually not a bad hire for an OC. I always liked NW, so it would be nice to see them actually have some success if Kelly can actually stay there longer than a year or two.

Steve Sarkisian literally said yesterday there is a cap when talking about NIL.

Surely you don't think that Steve Sarkisian believes there is an actual cap to NIL...thats like saying Sydney Sweeney doesn't know her cup size

Just kind of of passing interest. Here is what an NIL lawsuit looks like, in the general context. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cacd.1000315/gov.uscourts.cacd.1000315.1.0.pdf

Note that the causes of action (grounds), are the federal Trademark Act (Section 43(a) false destination of origin/unfair competition) a California state law claim, and a "common law" non-statutory claim. California being one of a handful of states with specific NIL laws outside of college sports.

I walked up to the assistant GM at a restaurant I was working at, just as he was finishing an interview with a heavyset gal. I didn't particularly care for the guy and just needed him to answer a question about the start of that day's evening shift, but he felt compelled to give me hiring advice, man to man, as if I'd asked.

"Not hiring that one, I can tell you that."

"Oh yeah, why?"

"She's fat. Never hire a fat employee."

"Why is that?"

"Because they never leave."

I wonder how many parents and HS coaches are going to start giving players who are pondering entering the portal the fat girl advice - "You hang onto that scholarship with all of your whiteknuckle might, dum dum. That portal is a black hole for guys like you who haven't played long enough for anyone to have any idea who in the hell you are." There's going to be some of that, I have no doubt.

For all the talk about 65 man NFL style rosters, there will be plenty of unsigned players available soon with increasing desperation to join a team for free

Errbody chasing NIL, many more getting pay and scholarship cuts than are getting raises.

Think about that stat, though. It means a lot of the players in the Portal were already walk-on and other non-scholarship players, and not all from Division I.

Yes, having the same thought. There are 136 FBS schools. With 85 man rosters, that would mean there are roughly 11,560 scholarship players. If the 10,576 was from that pool it would mean that over 91% entered the portal. I don't know what the real number is but I'd say that on average 20 scholarship players per team entering the portal is probably a high estimate. 20 / team is only about a quarter of the number they indicated entered the portal. Anyone have a source that gives more details to the source of portal entries?

Data from last year, but should roughly hold true for this year.
