Ok, we need an Oscar thread after that Will Smith/Chris Rock moment

For the love of god why couldn’t Chris Rock think up “damn Will, you would have been less pissed if I slept with your wife”

That would’ve been perfect. Unfortunately, Rock was just too surprised by the entire thing.

I watch one goddamned women’s basketball game, ….

  • I was sick of Will Smith, his attention whore wife, and his weirdo kids well before this. And now we'll have to hear more bullshit about these dipshits. The entire family can fuck right off.

Dude couldn’t even knock scrawny ass Chris Rock over with a free punch. No wonder that pussy had to flee Philly.

Belfast was not a great movie. Choppy storytelling with a few high quality acting performances.  I have no further commentary.

I'm willing to sacrifice our love.

Come on, we were all thinking it.

You don't get to put your hands on someone because he said something you don't like.

You do if they know you can make them accidentally trip and fall into the trunk of a '83 Chrysler LeBaron that might accidentally drive itself into a 75-foot deep water-filled coal pit out in the boonies of Oklahoma or Arkansas.

Rock mentioning her baldness was a rather clever plug for “Good Hair: The Sequel”

Yea need clip of drunk Hopkins!  Lol

Sir Tony has been sober for 45 years.  No one needs that.

People who go into threads about things they didn't watch and then brag about not watching it are super weird.

Not watching the Oscars has become a personality trait for some.

- An incredible amount of material
- An entire week to prepare
- Jarrod Carmichael as guest host to play Will Smith

And the writers at SNL will still crank out a below-average opening skit about the slap heard around the world

That's not bad for them.

You know why Smith hit him with an open hand?

Because paper beats Rock.

Chris can take a punch better than Will can take a joke.

I liked it a hell of a lot more than Power of the Dog.

Right? I mean who wouldn't agree to a massive publicity stunt where you could be charged with assault, all on the very night you might win the highest achievement of your career?

Right. Violence and disparaging wife remarks are always winners in that situation

Nope. Will smith is just a dumbass egomaniac and handled it poorly

Anyone who doesn't think that was scripted is an idiot.

That might make more sense if Smith didn't follow it up with "take my wife's name outta your fuckin' mouth" twice on live TV.

They were presenting “Best Picture” together. Minnelli was struggling with the lines and the cards they gave her. GaGa handled it beautifully and with such grace. Pulled them both through it with such dignity.

Caught a short clip of that. I'm not a huge fan of her music but Gaga is a badass.

I just read that Pinkett has alopecia and has spoken publicly about it. Interestingly, Smith himself was laughing at the joke while Jada make a face. Then he grandstands and goes onstage to slap a smaller man who just kept going.

Smith's endless acceptance speech included an apology to the Academy which I see some reporters saying that was him addressing the incident. He didn't apologize to Rock. I think he was apologizing for running on with his speech.  Loathsome is the only word in my mind when that sanctimonious sack of shit finally left the stage.

I'd have had him removed from the auditorium during the first break after the attack. I'd have had the presenter of best actor say the award was forfeit if Will Smith won it.

He'd never attend another ceremony if I ran the Academy. Disgraceful.

Yeah, what great publicity for everyone involved.

You sound like you have expertise in idiocy. Here's the uncensored recording:

I suspected it was scripted at first, but no. Watch the tape.

Really wish Chris Rock would have kept going when he said “I could, mmm” and decided to pull back.

chris rock is as seasoned as they come at being in front a live audience, either in sketches or doing his act.

he was caught off guard and it took him a minute to find it. it was plain as day.

there’s a long tradition of comics pushing the limit and just as long of a list of divas that can’t take it and overreact.

only big movie stars sit front and center like that, waiting to win an award. you think denzel pulls that shit? or tom hanks or dicaprio?

rock get the w here, and it’s not that close.

The uncensored footage shown in Australia and Japan have already been posted here, but here's the uncensored footage as it was shown in Bikini Bottom:

if reddit is any indication, public sentiment is definitely not on Smith's side here.

Damn, I thought Serena would be the one with that dress she was wearing.  Sisters trying to out-cleave each other on the big night.

Oh my God the pearl clutching in this thread....

What would you be saying if Will Smith was a cop?

Probably late but Will was auditioning for the upcoming Juwan Howard bio- pic.

Someone on Twitter:

Academy is going to see all the attention from this and say "Damn, we should have invited black people sooner!"

Will Smith just got in a fight at the company picnic.

Janet Jackson's nipple gets bared on national TV and the world goes insane.

Will Smith assaults a man on stage and nothing will happen to him.

Makes you understand how Harvey Weinstein got away with what he did for so long. Hollyweird has different rules.

Didn’t watch any of this last night, but reading the thread is a reminder of how fucked up Hollywood can be. These actors–the ones like Will Smith who are the blockbuster stars making millions—are living a life where every day people are telling them how great they are and throwing money at them, while working on a massive movie set where everyone is so painfully serious about playing pretend. So much of their waking life is literally make believe. It’s such a huge detachment from reality. It makes it tough for even seemingly good guys like Tom Hanks from staying grounded.

I say this as someone who still loves the movies.

Think about how much more powerful it would have been if he simply held her hand. Gave Rock a look, maybe a shake of the head, maybe mouthed "Enough". We get so hung up on dealing with the offender we forget about the helping the person that is actually hurt.

Agree.
