Late to the party but I binged all four seasons over the holidays. Hot damn that’s how you do it. Strong diverse cast, coupla A+ listers to anchor it, good writing great acting tight production, good stories, no lectures. Just outstanding. Can’t wait for more.

(Haven't read one post in this thread)

So I finally got around to starting this last night. I watched the first episode, and thought it was a struggle. Is it more of that for four seasons? I'm assuming not, because... I don't get it.

Commit to the first season (it’s only 6 episodes). If you don’t like it, there’s no point in watching future seasons. The set up is slow and layered each season, but it’s really good.

Two episodes in on Season 2.  Oldman is so good.  Really like this.

Damn, I can’t wait.  There currently only 8 books in the series, but a ninth is supposed to be in the works.  One of the books is a prequel which goes into Lamb’s time in postwar Berlin.  It goes into some of the history between Lamb and Molly the archive lady.  I think it would be a good one to film, but who plays a young Jackson Lamb?

Can't wait. My favorite show.

Here's the teaser from the link

Nah, he's good.  Well, not mentally.  He executed the guy handcuffed to the heater after he talked Shirley down.

He should have a much bigger role this season, based on the books.

I think y'all are talking about different guys. @Macanudo, I think, is talking about the Slough House agent who got done in by the Russians on his bicycle. He was dating the black female agent. Roddy, the Asian techo-nerd who thinks all the ladies fancy him, is supposedly playing a bigger role in Season 5. Or so I've read.

EDIT: @Stringer, are you talking about the guy who just came on the scene in the last season? I'd kind of forgotten about him.

Yeah, I was talking about the one who just showed up.  Dude on the bike is long gone.

Correct.  JK Coe, who was mute for much of last season.  I assumed that was the quiet guy.  Min Harper got killed on his bike in Season 2.

He survived and I'm pretty sure he's a grenade waiting for the pin to fall out.

Apple TV+ has ordered a seventh season of Slow Horses

Quote

Fans of Apple TV+’s Slow Horses were thrilled when the streamer announced the series had been renewed for a sixth season back in October just after it had concluded its fourth. Now, as we await the spy thriller’s fifth season, due to arrive on September 24, 2025, we’ve learned it has already officially been renewed for a seventh season as well. The show, which stars Gary Oldman as the prickly head of a misfit branch of MI5, is based on a series of novels by Mick Herron, with each season roughly following the plots of individual books, and season 7 is reported to be based on the eighth full novel, Bad Actors.

Fuck, yes!

I was going to say that I hope Gary Oldman is going to be around long enough to make it through 7 seasons, and then I looked up his birthday and he's only about 8 months older than I am.

I'm not going to read all of this for fear of spoilers but jesus, oldman is needlessly disgusting.  Not my book, not my story, but would have been less revolting if the fuckheads in this show bathed. It's like they were all in an experiment to see how it would be if you have 14th century grooming habits in the 21st century.

That being said, like it so far (1st season)

Im not sure if they dial down his disgustingness or you just get used to it.  Now it basically serves as a character reinforcer and comedic element.

Complaining about Oldman's portrayal of Lamb? That's a thing?

Anyways, I saw this earlier and hopefully it doesn't affect the quality of writing too badly.

Will Smith, the Emmy-winning creator of “Slow Horses,” is exiting the Apple TV+ spy thriller after Season 5, Variety has confirmed.

Smith served as writer and executive producer on the Gary Oldman series and was the showrunner in everything but name. He led the production since Season 1 in 2022, writing scripts adapted from Mick Herron’s “Slough House” novel series. Smith won the Emmy for writing for a drama series in 2024; he’s nominated for writing and for drama series this year.

“Slow Horses” has already been renewed through Season 7 at Apple TV+. For Season 6, Smith is handing over the reins to Gaby Chiappe (of the British crime drama “The Level”), and for Season 7, “All Creatures Great and Small” creator Ben Vanstone is taking over. Smith will not be involved with the series after Season 5.

Dial it down? I'm pretty sure they turn it up. Just think about his medical at the start of season 3.

Just saw that the 14th Slough House book comes out this year.  If we get 14 seasons of this, I ain't complaining.

Folks, we have made it.   It is Slow Horses week.   Season 5 officially starts on Wednesday, the 25th, which means episode 1 should be available on Tuesday night.

I was late to this so I binged all four seasons in several weeks. This will be the first time I’ve watched them one at a time. Not sure I’m going to able to handle that.
Spoiler
  • Ho is so well played.  He's such a gross loser.  His first scene was so cringe.
  • Mayor Nate!
  • I trust that this will be much more complicated than just some boring White Nationalist threat.  That would be disappointing.

The Roddy Simply Irresistible dance sequence to open cracked me up, particularly because this show has an actor as esteemed as Oldman. Top notch scene.

I'm gonna need more scenes with the woman Roddy was with at the club. Also, I'm going to need this show moved to HBO or Cinemax for those scenes.

The Rube Goldberg device was fucking perfect. Been kind of a slow season so far, but I still like it.

Was funny and was a weird slow burn because you knew exactly what was going to happen...

Spoiler

Mayor Nate is the main big bad, right?  I mean he looked up at where the gunman was going to be prior to giving his speech.  Also makes the son being involved not a coincidence.  And maybe he knew Gimbel would push his campaign manager/body man too far and he'd get violent.

i have enjoyed all 5 seasons, but less Roddy please.

Plus, Shirley has had two on-foot chase sequences this season. Enough of that please.

If they’d just given her a gun the problem would be solved already.

Agreed. Been fun so far.

How TF do the Brits not shoot themselves in the dick daily?

I wish more American shows realized less is more most of the time. Six episodes is perfect for this show and keeps things moving without pointless storylines.

When those opening credits hit…

Still incredible that they got Mick fucking Jagger to do their theme song

I'm 3 eps in on season 5. I don't recall the previous 4 seasons using continual character stupidity in order to move the plot forward but it's been awhile since I watched season 4 and I haven't rewatched any. Season 5 isn't terrible but it seems lacking in sophistication.

The last episode was pretty good, even though the end song was a little heavy-handed.

I find myself judging an episode by how many times Gary Oldman says, "My joe". If he does it more than once, it's gonna be a good episode. If he does it three or more times, it's a fantastic episode.

I'm catching up on this season, on episode 2 now.  The bad guys should have found a van without that distinctive orange stripe.
