Can we talk about the fact that we were down 2 games to 1 and were facing two more road games against a team that was unbeaten at home in the playoffs, then our staff of savages held them to 3 runs over 3 games?

I mean, god damn.

  • This postseason has become more sentimental for me and my wife's family.  My father in law is the biggest Astros fan I know.  He watches every game without fail, even DVRing them if he can't watch liv

That was fucking awesome. We had a direct line away from Yordan’s HR. Wife made the national broadcast for being shitfaced. Good times.

Freakin 3 runs allowed in the last 3 games lol.

We put out that Philly trash fire. Hope I never hear Fightin Phillie again.

13 games. Only 4 that weren’t dominating starting pitching performances. 2 duds were JV and 2 were LMJ. Combined salary of like 43 million. Our other guys make minimum wage and shoved it up the asses of all comers.
we didn’t even get but the slightest taste of Hunter Brown, who is going to be fucking awesome. The bullpen gave up 1 run in 13 games that wasn’t a HR. No rallies. No traffic. No hope for the other team other than maybe we will accidentally run into 1.
what a fucking dominant crew of arms.

So, what have y'all bought so far?

I've got two caps and three tees coming from the MLB shop.  I didn't see a navy hoodie to replace my 2017 one, but I'll definitely find that and add a couple of coffee mugs and something framed for the home office.

two 16oz glass roster tumblers and a hoodie

Any other team in MLB would kill to have Montero's stats in the postseason and we were all like, he's done his job we got better options today.

Team of destiny, really. We’ve been the best in baseball for 6 years, but unlike those 90s Braves, the second one came. THANK GOD

I've said this for years but that Braves team was unquestionably a dynasty even though they didn't win more than one WS title. Their divisional dominance over a decade plus in a sport with 162 regular season games and their constant appearances in the Fall Classic qualifies that team for D-word status always and I don't say this because of my love for this Astros era. It's an opinion I've long held.

However, I think the Astros have surpassed the Braves not just because of their second WS title but primarily because they did it in the wild-card era when Atlanta from 1991-1993 was already in the NLCS for winning their division.

The fact the Astros have won SIX STRAIGHT ALDS in this wild card era with hot teams playing in a best-of-five format and they've gone to four WS in six chances over a six year span is unreal.

It's a fucking DYNASTY Y'ALL. Let's build on it.

Has there been a pitching staff, top to bottom, as good as this one?

I’m too drunk to count my winnings tonight but I’m pretty sure I won more than $2k. I highly recommend betting on the Astros to win it all, it’s an incredible experience.

In 5 years.

Two World Championships.

Four AL Pennants

An MVP, Cy Young winners, Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers, All-stars.

All mostly homegrown.

The Astros are a dynasty

I got my foul ball I retrieved in a game against Arlington (pitched by our beloved Framberlamps) by my side.  Just fucking love it.

Artifacts going to Hall of Fame:

- Altuve’s G6 elbow guard
- Alvarez’s G6 bat
- Baker’s G2 jersey, G6 wristbands and toothpicks
- McCormick’s G5 glove
- Pena’s G2 jersey
- Pressly’s G6 spikes
- Valdez’s G2 spikes
- Verlander’s G5 spikes
- A bat used by Pena during the ALCS.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot and my answer is that the 13 man staff against the Yanks is the deepest staff since bullpens expanded and the game became recognizable compared to what it is now.

Maddox Glavine and Smoltz is better than JV, Framber and Javier I think.

the Philly top 4 of Holladay, Lee, Oswalt and Hammels is probably better than our top 4.

this team is better than any of the Yankees pitching staffs.  Or the Dodgers. Or the Giants.

where we are no doubt better though is in depth. All of those teams would have had Stanek as at worst a 7th inning guy, maybe an 8th inning guy. He was #5 in the pecking order of bullpen guys and got no leverage appearances. Hunter Brown was awesome and a revelation and he pitched what- 3 innings in the playoffs.

we went 18 innings with Seattle without giving up a run, and we literally could have gone at least 30 innings and it wouldn’t have even come close to taxing our bullpen or the ability to come out the next day and be fine (think about that- Garcia went 5 and could have gone another 2 to take us to 20, and Urquidy and Javier were both down there and could have easily gone 6 each. That’s 32 innings pitched. Without breaking a sweat). Then- the next day we would have rolled out JV on full rest and he would be backed up by Abreu, Stanek, Neris, Montero and Presley, none of whom threw more than 1 inning the day before in the 18 inning game. Most teams require heroism to get to that point in a playoff game, it was literally no big deal for us. At all.
now- is that the best way to figure out the best staff ever in the playoffs?  Nah- I don’t think so as we showed in the WS where only 7 guys pitched in our 4 wins (my constant argument for 11 pitchers being fine in the playoffs but whatever) so I’m not super concerned about 11 or 12 on our staff, let alone 13, but if you are talking about the greatest collection of above average to great arms where there is no real wrong choice on the entire staff then… maybe?  Probably.
For 162 games over the regular season it’s amazing- and how you win 106 games when your offense vacillates between shitty, average and really good, and finishes barely top 10 in runs scored.

HOLY SHIT WE WON THE WORLD SERIES! Still hasn’t quite sunk in. As a die hard fan we all know it’s much more than a single title. Dynasty, redemption, fuck all y’all, whatever.

6 ALCS in a row, 4 WS, 2 titles.

Amazing.  Fucking amazing.

This series could and should be 2-1 Astros, the Astros outplayed Philly the first two games, they've been in more postseason games than any other team in MLB the last seven years or so and y'all pussies think this shit is even close to over?

Philly needs two more, we need three.

Stros in 7.

I didn't want to ruffle the feathers of the BBGs or get greedy, but after Javier and the bullpen no-hit the Phillie lineup in gm 4 I wanted to change my prediction to Stros in 6 because I thought that game did a number on their bats and I strongly believed the Phillies had only won one game definitively off our pitching and that was because LMJ was tipping, regardless of what he says publicly. I mean, cmon. It was obvious to everyone. Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh teeing off for HRs???? They needed some fluky shit to happen in game 1 (JV dropping an easy double play) and a shoelace catch in the B9 by Castellanos to get to extras and win it and the Astros had jumped out to 5-0 leads in both of the first two games. Yeah, Schwarber made some loud noisy outs in the second game but even if one of those balls goes yard, they weren't going to put Philly ahead. They would've just made the Astros bullpen sweat a little more, but whatever. Point being those plays didn't change the outcome of the game the way JV's error or Castellanos' catch changed the outcome of gm 1.

I said it then and I say it now. This series was absolutely controlled and dictated by the Houston Astros and I believed that as long as the Astros stayed within themselves and didn't panic, they would rise to the occasion and put that pressure on a Philly team that doesn't have anywhere close to the playoff experience or "us-against-the-world" mentality of the Houston Astros clubhouse.

This year has been a motherfucking joy of a baseball season with a lot of ups and far fewer downs and I appreciate you guys who held it down all year long up in the Surly Stros thread. I'm a pessimist in real life by nature and maybe that's why I'm a sunny-side up Astros fan who doesn't respond well to bitching and whining and complaining over every Wed night lineup change or a shitty wipeout loss in the third game of the World Series.

I never ever stopped believing this team had it in them to win this World Series, especially as long as they weren't facing an elimination game. I was adamant with my Astro fan friends who were freaking out after Lance's pants-shitting performance that there was A LOT of baseball yet to play and that shit was far from over. How the fuck y'all gonna doubt this roster of badass mfers after the sustained success they had all year long and their playoff success in all the years before? After we'd wiped the floor with the Yankees and gone 7-0 combined in the DS and LCS?????

If you ever catch me doubting this team next year like some of y'all did last week, slap me in the face and quote this post.

STROS BABY!!!

OK, I wasn't able to post during the game, and nsiap, but has anyone ever hit a ball up there before Yordong did it tonight?

That bomb will be talked about for 100 years.

If you would have told me before the game Framber would give up one run in 6 innings, I would have taken it. Too bad our offense is shit, and I’m looking mainly at Yordan.
Dumb ass.

Thanks again for all of you who kept the faith and kept supporting the Astros even when they were down. Like we were saying, it ain't over til it's over.

Nope.

I mean- you are talking about 3 HOFers, one of which is one of the top 5 pitchers in the history of baseball in the Atlanta trio vs a HOFer, 1 time all star and a guy who many on this thread argued should be a bullpen swingman as late as August because he’s “done it before” so forgive me if I don’t say that’s the top 3 greatest pitchers ever. That’s not a slight on our guys. That’s a nod to reality.
