Georgia keeps ramping up

Shocking footage from a few moments ago. TV Pirveli, an independent TV station in Tbilisi, was filming live when one of its journalists was attacked by masked men. Journalists have been repeatedly targeted by so-called “titushky”, men allegedly hired by the regime to intimidate those at protests.
The reporter Maka Chikhladze has apparently suffered a head injury. Further footage has just emerged of her TV Pirveli cameraman, Giorgi Shetsiruli, being viciously beaten by the masked men. State-sanctioned violence on its own citizens. The international community needs to act. (🎥Credit: IPN)

France rushes aid to Mayotte, with hundreds feared dead and hunger rising after Cyclone Chido

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — France used ships and military aircraft to rush rescue workers and supplies to its tiny Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte on Monday after the island group was battered by its worst cyclone in nearly a century. Authorities fear hundreds and possibly thousands of people have died.

Maybe not the best source. Peter Imanuelson "Peter Sweden" is a full on wing nut.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had hoped for this outcome when he called for the confidence vote, analysts say. His aim: to win fresh elections in February and come back with a stronger mandate. https://www.npr.org/2024/12/16/g-s1-38426/germany-scholz-confidence-vote-elections

Over the weekend, a savage massacre in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, resulted in at least 184 deaths, highlighting the escalating instability in a nation already beset by rampant gang violence for several years.

According to reports, the murders targeted elderly inhabitants in the Cité Soleil district and were allegedly commanded by Monel “Mikano” Felix, the Wharf Jérémie gang’s leader.

The National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH) reports that Felix sought advice from a voodoo priest when his child fell ill and eventually died on Saturday. The priest allegedly pinned the blame on the senior citizens in the area, accusing them of witchcraft. As per the RNDDH, “Felix ordered the killings, and at least 110 people aged 60 and older were slaughtered over the weekend, many with machetes and knives.”

Afghan/Pakistan border getting fun again.

Afghanistan says they were refugees (from Pakistan), Pakistan says terrorists.

At least 46 people have died in a Pakistani bombardment of Afghanistan's Paktika province, the Afghan Taliban government said Wednesday, promising to retaliate. A senior Pakistani security official said the air strikes targeted "terrorist hideouts" across the border.

The reasons being given do not make much sense. There is a river system both have claimed since the time of the French.

What I am hearing is there was a Thai patrol. Eat the border. Being observed by drones. As they went they hit a landmine. One dead 5 wounded. Thais sent in one aircraft as a fuck you strike. Cambodia launched rockets and arty. Decisions were made up higher. Could go away. Could get nasty.

Sudan’s civil war is taking a jarring turn in Darfur, where an Arab-led militia is now using state-of-the-art drones and execution squads to dominate the region’s Black population.

Humanitarian groups say the violence has been escalating since the militia seized control of El Fasher, the largest city in the region. Videos shared online by the Sudan Doctors Network and other local rights groups appear to show militia members shooting unarmed civilians at point-blank range in the city on the fringes of the Sahara. In the streets, dead bodies are scattered alongside burned-out vehicles. At the only functioning hospital, the World Health Organization reported that the rebels killed all 460 people inside the main ward, including patients, caregivers and health workers.

Rights researchers already are warning that the killings have the potential to surpass the genocide that played out in Rwanda just over 30 years ago. The group behind the violence, the Rapid Support Forces, led by Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has previously been accused by the U.S. of pursuing a genocide of Darfur’s Black population. Two decades ago, its predecessor was involved in the killing of more than 200,000 people in Darfur.

This time, the killings are the work of a closely-drilled and well-armed rebel force that already has established a parallel government to run Darfur, an expanse of western Sudan roughly the the size of Spain. RSF fighters are armed with bomb-carrying Wing Loong II and FeiHong-95 drones, made in China, and supplied by the United Arab Emirates to help expand its own interests in the region. Diplomats and U.S. officials also say the wealthy Gulf state is also supplying howitzers, heavy machine guns, and mortars, with U.S. intelligence agencies adding that the U.A.E. has been accelerating the flow of materiel to the RSF in recent months and enabling it to launch fresh offensives.

When he tried to rename the DOD to the "Department of War", that should have told you everything you needed to know about where we are headed. I think he enjoys having people killed, based on his recent comments and press conferences.

But I don't think he could point out Nigeria on a map, and I doubt he knows how many people actually live there.

At least 700 dead in Tanzania's post-election protests, opposition says

Africa

Hundreds of people have reportedly been killed in Tanzania after taking to the streets to protest this week’s presidential election, which saw the increasingly authoritarian incumbent, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, run unopposed for another term after her main challengers were jailed or barred from standing.

Can JNIM seize the Malian capital? Probably not, at least in the short term. Still, the world cannot sit idly by as al Qaeda threatens to collapse Mali and spread across West Africa.
