Until the Wheels Fall Off (Tony Hawk documentary) - HBO

Featured Replies

Searched for a thread on this but couldn’t find one.  It just went up on HBO Max a few days ago.

Anyone else watch? I watched the other day. It’s excellent… really shows how hard Tony Hawk has worked over the years and how much abuse his body has taken.

There is a bit of overlap with the “Bones Brigade” documentary if you’ve seen that. One thing I didn’t realize was that the “older” pro skaters at the time didn’t like Tony Hawk because his dad was one of the organizers of the events and they though his “big air” style with flipping and stuff was “cheating”, lol.

Good doc, really enjoyed it. Brought back all the feels of skating in the 80's with skate punk blasting in the background.

Tony Hawk is extremely stubborn, driven and lucky to still be walking upright at this point.

Yeah it’s no wonder he ended up being the GOAT. You could see a lot of the same qualities in him that you could see in Michael Jordan.

It’s the combination of being a great athlete and then just having a completely obsessive focus/drive to do the next great thing that took him to the next level.

You could really see it in that sequence when he was trying to get the 900. He would crash/fall and then just pop up and almost run to the top of the ramp to try again.

Yep, most pro skaters would decide it's beer-thirty after even one of those 900 attempt crashes.

Mentions on the HBO thread a couple of weeks ago. Liked it a lot too.
