Manfred: MLB will propose automated ball-strike challenge system for 2026 at the major-league levelhttps://t.co/lXLDfWR4Sw

Good lord I can't wait to see these last two posts interact. I want to see Diaz watch a screen say that the ball was 6.8 inches outside.

When the robot umpires come I kind of hope they have a random Angel Hernandez setting for the lulz.  Jeez that guy is so fucking awful.

While I know some don’t like it usually an ump might be consistently “wrong” during a game in one or two spots. “He seems to be giving them a ball off the plate low and away tonight.” or “He really li

Rays' Josh Lowe repeated "you missed that one bad" to the umpire after the out call at firstThe Rays did not have any challenges left

Don't know anything about that ump but I think he had an inkling that he blew it. Usually those egomaniacs would have tossed a player for what Lowe did even though he was 100% correct, of course.

that is crazy.  I'm not sure I've seen a call that simple and obvious missed at first base in MLB before.  That is completely embarrassing for a MLB Ump.

good thing they don't have something like the strike zone where they time from the point the foot hits the bag and the ball meets the glove

You missed the end of Joe West's career?

Yeah, that one was hella bad. I get it sometimes where it is actually close. From their angle they usually can’t see the last 8” when the ball is going into the glove. Best they can do is try to hear it hit and watch the runners feet. Those I can be sympathetic to a missed call, that’s what review is for. But that one? oh fuck no. He must have had a hot date or something.

I mean they are human, and humans make mistakes no matter the level. We all do. It’s human nature. But be open to the possibility that you may be incorrect and have. made a mistake. Don’t double down and puff out your chest, and end up ejecting someone because they hurt your feelers over your call.

Sure, sometimes an ejection is warranted, depending on the post-call interaction, but if both sides maintain respect for each other, things might go better.

Not to say that things don’t happen in the heat of the moment, but still, talk mad shit to the officials in any sport and see what happens long term.

However, with this one, jesus christ on a bicycle. I mean the ball is what. 10-12 feet from the glove at the point his foot hit the bag. Granted still quick in real time, but in context it wasn’t. Foot hits bag, hear the ball hit glove a second or two after. Only thing I can think of is he mixed up the sound of each in his head? He can’t honestly be that bad?

The correct mechanic is to see the ball into the glove and then check the runner.  There can be no out if the ball is not in the glove and the fielder touching the base.  He made that call before the ball ever hit the glove.  Bad umpiring period.

Umpire: Phil CuzziFinal: Phillies 1, Giants 3#RingTheBell // #SFGiants#PHIvsSF // #SFvsPHIMore stats for this ump 👇https://t.co/uKEpYwV5Nr

Umpire Phil Cuzzi had a rough 8th inning in the Giants Phillies game.He made two bad calls to Bryce Harper and then gifted Matt Chapman a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th life in the bottom half of the inning.Instead of striking out, Chapman singled, and moved the winning run into scoring…

Phil Cuzzi should never be allowed to umpire another game again. This is atrocious and completely unacceptable. #Phillies @MLBUA

new leader in the clubhouse for worst call *of all time*

An absolutely dumbfounding call

I can see why he called that. The catcher was set up outside. Catcher's fault.

Juan Soto had a lot to say after two strike calls and had to be held back by Pete Alonso and Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who was eventually ejected

Brandon Nimmo struck out on zero strikes two batters prior to Juan Soto's at-bat https://t.co/xPEetRle92

This umpire is not a fan of correct calls

that shows you why catchers pull their gloves in so much.  the ump is almost always looking at the glove in relation to the catcher

Jesus just happened so don’t have a clip but Mookie just got rung up on a pitch a full foot down and out.  Egregious.

In her MLB debut behind the plate, umpire Jen Pawol missed the first call of the game, but settled in to call a relatively unremarkable game. She missed 14 calls and had a correct call rate of 90.3%. She was ranked 13th of 15 umpires on the day.

#432

Looks pretty good for any first timer debuting at the highest level. At least no one through a dildo at her.

If they threw a dildo at Angel Hernandez, he'd just think it was his own bobblehead.

Umpires missed 1046 calls during the week of 8/11 - 8/17.These were the 10 worst called strikeouts by distance missed.

^Is that a coincidence those were all strike 3 calls?

Was it a choice of the video editors, or is there a psychological reason umps miss badly when they want to ring someone up?

It's just showing shitty third-strike calls that guys got rung up looking. No need to overthink it.
