Yes that would work. And to be honest if that's the way they do it then I think they should split the series. So for example Texas/Alabama could be

Texas @ Alabama 2022
Alabama @ Texas 2026
Texas @ Alabama 2030
Alabama @ Texas 2034

And so on. That would give players the chance to play every other team in the conference in their 4 years of eligibility.

Bama’s players go pro after 3 years……

I guess this thread is as good as any for this, Billy keeps throwing a hissy fit about how we just aren't ready for the meat grinder that we are entering. Their joke schedule last year is a mirage, check the bowl results:

image.png.617c5516104e25bcc57ff85d97585740.png

Well...about that. The SEC was an impressive 7-2. Of course 2 of those wins were Alabama (lost 52-24). One of them was aggy over UNC. 3 of the SEC bowl wins were by teams a&m didn't even play (Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss). The ags did play both SEC programs who lost their bowl however (Florida lost by 35 to OU & Auburn lost by 16 to Northwestern). Those two also happen to represent their two most impressive regular season wins.

That leaves 1 SEC team that won their bowl who the ags actually beat during the season: Miss St. They won an all-timer of an Armed Forces Bowl against Tulsa by 2 points.

TLDR: The closer you look at it, A&M's big coronation season becomes even more of a mirage. So thank you for pointing that out Billy.

butbutbut they didn't play any OOC games!  0-9 Vandy is still better than Texas!

Yeah - I don't get it.

Here are the current cross-over games:

Alabama-Tennessee

Auburn-UGA

LSU-Florida

Arkansas-Mizzou

A&M-South Carolina

Miss State-Kentucky

Ole Miss-Vandy

If Mizzou and Alabama/Auburn switch sides, three of those are kept, so the only ones you lose are:

LSU-Florida

A&M-South Carolina

Miss State-Kentucky

Ole Miss-Vandy

I can't imagine any of those are worth keeping, so the only question is whether the Mississippi schools and LSU need to play Alabama/Auburn.

Ole Miss-Vandy is one of the oldest rivalries in the south.  But then Ole Miss-Tennessee and Ole Miss-Georgia were big rivalries before divisions and they lost Georgia right away and Tennessee when they switched to a single rivalry instead of two (5-1-2 model instead of 5-2-1).  So I don't think they will do much for Ole Miss now.

We were pissed because when Mizzou started flirting with the Big 10, we arranged a deal with the Pac 10 that included aggy but aggy blew up the deal at the last minute. Nebraska took the Big 10 slot that Mizzou wanted. Colorado went to the Pac 10. All the remaining Big 12 schools agreed to commit to the BIg 12. The Big 12 even offered an extra share of revenue to UT, OU, and aggy to remain in the conference. UT and OU declined, aggy took it. aggy then secretly negotiated with SEC to join them.

In all the realignment escapades, we tried to include aggy. But they fucked up our chance to leave while making sure they had a way out.

Wrong.  KU was taking aggy's spot.  ESPN and Fox paid the Big 12 to keep the Pac 16 from happening.  They knew nobody watched the Pac 10.

Missouri made the SEC ccg twice with Big 12 players.  Haven't done it since.  Arkansas made it once with SWC players and twice later but not since 2006.

There’s been extensive discussion in the state of Oklahoma about OU and Texas moving from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference. I believe this is a good and necessary move for the future of our school and football program. I disagree with any claims asserted that OU’s decision is “to the detriment of the State of Oklahoma,” and that OU made it without “engagement and transparency.”

Let’s set the record straight: OU’s move to the SEC is what’s best for Oklahoma. The reality is that conferences are now more important than ever and, with limited spots, the strongest conferences would not accept OU if we were to require OSU to join as well. By joining the SEC, we ensure the state’s flagship university will be represented nationally while protecting our rich football history for many years to come. To move forward in any other manner would be to the detriment of OU and the state of Oklahoma.

The advantages are many — greater financial opportunities, better exposure, stronger recruiting and increased competition. Playing in front of full, huge stadiums will be attractive to our players, recruits, and our supportive fans. OU will be competing at the highest level of college football, which is exactly where we should be. I can’t wait for SEC programs to face our teams and our fans — I think both are the best in the country.

The prospect of moving to the SEC also excites me for our fans. Not only will the move energize our fanbase and provide great trips for road games to new venues, but the city of Norman stands to win as well. SEC fans loyally travel with their teams. Many fans from the SEC have never been to Norman and they’ll be eager to make the trip and experience an OU football weekend. Tickets will be in high demand and OU, Norman, and all of Oklahoma will reap the benefits.

Change is always hard. Moving to a more competitive league is unnerving to some. OU and OSU have a history of being in the same conference — I understand that. Of course, OU and OSU should work together when they can for the betterment of our state, but there are times when that is not possible (I don’t recall sharing my game plan with Coach Gundy every year). The reality is, in today’s world, conference realignment doesn’t allow for it.

With this move, OU is taking control of its own destiny. And all Oklahomans — no matter who they root for — can trust that when the state’s flagship university makes a decision, it always puts Oklahoma’s interests first.

SEC! SEC! SEC!

So I wanted to discuss this matter a bit, and I'm not one to start new threads, so I will just post it here where it will be irrelevant in an hour.

I get the hatred for the SEC, I was a full on hater for years. But I live in the middle of SEC country and I have gained perspective and now understand it, even if I don't fully embrace it. As shocking as this may be, Texas fits perfectly into the SEC mindset. They collectively feel they are the best, and they all agree (one school aside) that Texas is among the best and should be included in their group.

They have very much adopted the Texas philosophy of "they hate us cuz they ain't us" and have banded together to shoot the rest of the collective sporting world a middle finger. Much like Horns down is a national topic simply because the world hates us, the SEC dominance is a topic because of the hatred as much as the factual nature.

We are learning right now the repercussions of surrounding yourselves with a bunch of also rans that never stack any trophies in the conference closet. We were losing credibility as a result. Pretty much everyone brings something to the table in the SEC in some way or form, and even the lowliest South Carolina still packs 70-80k into a stadium to watch their team lose year after year.

They simply do just care more. We do to, that's why we should be here. My first college football game ever was at Jordan-Hare Stadium and I was hooked. I went to the 2nd ever SEC Championship game and learned to hate Bammer. I have been to dozens of games at the Swamp and games in Baton Rouge and a few other SEC towns. They are all  die hard fans. The only ghost town for a game is typically Vandy, but at least they are in Nashville.

I don't think any fan base aside from aggy whole heartedly roots for another team like Bama. Most have a very strong hatred for all things crimson, and truly hate their rivals. But if the option is to root for Bama or Ohio State, they want Bama to murder Ohio State to prove that the conference they play in is the best. It doesn't matter the sport, the SEC wants to dominate it. Over the last decade they pretty much have (aside from basketball). It means that every game every week matters. If you came close but didn't win it, at least you probably get a shot at the team that did next year. That is much better than another year long schedule facing a bunch of teams that have never won shit.

Texas is one of the very best brands in college sports. We are now part of the very best conference in college sports. This is a great week to be a Longhorn.

You are incorrect about basically everything in your post except the bolded part.

I don't think it's good enough - I think every 2 years there should be a home/home and the only way to do that is to play a smaller set of teams annually. The smaller 4 team divisions makes too much sense and is much better for recruiting into Texas, which is what the SEC gets out of this. This is 100% NIL/Recruiting driven.

Baylor is the university of little finger. Providing zero value while trying to manipulate and control it's way into relevance. The press is starting to catch on:

https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/mac-engel/article253030318.html

Spoiler

The SEC’s treatment of Texas A&M should serve as a warning to every Aggie that in the eyes of the conference they are no different than Arkansas or Missouri.

Because of its size, Texas A&M is secure regardless of however college athletics, and football, exist, and change in the coming decade.

The Aggies will always be a part of big-time college football.

On Monday, Texas and Oklahoma issued a joint statement that it plans to leave the Big 12 when its media rights agreement expires after 2025. It also issued the dreaded, “However” sentence that suggests they want to get out of this ASAP.

The Texas A&M Board of Regents met at 5 p.m. Monday to discuss Texas and Oklahoma’s move to the SEC. This meeting is a formality, and the subject should have been removed from the docket.

While A&M leaders, such as athletic director Ross Bjork, now welcome the addition of UT as a fellow conference member, it’s too late.

Their first reaction was their genuine feeling about this. They don’t want UT again for the logical reasons, and it reeks not of pettiness, but fear.

On Tuesday morning, the SEC issued a statement from commissioner Greg Sankey that acknowledged the league is considering adding both Texas and Oklahoma.

There was never anything Texas A&M could do to stop this, because in the eyes of the SEC, the Big Ten, the Pac-12, the ACC, Fox Sports, or ESPN, the real prize in Texas is the University of Texas.

Spoiler

Because, much like Auburn will never be Alabama, Texas A&M will never be the University of Texas.

Every single Aggie knows what is coming, and the return of second-class treatment by both the conference, and everywhere outside of College Station.

Of course, it will be fun to watch for the first time in its history when Bevo pushes out his belly and tries to bully the room when Alabama says, “You’re adorable. We’re not doing that. The adults are talking. Now sit down and eat your orange slices.”

The SEC is an Alabama/LSU/Georgia/Florida league first. Ask Ole Miss about this.

UT isn’t even in the conference yet and its already received preferential treatment by a league A&M has been a member of since 2011.

There are few bigger T-shirt schools in America than the University of Texas; whereas A&M has created a level of solidarity and community on the strength of its alums that is virtually unseen by other every big university in the country, UT has both its exes, and a legion of fans and supporters who never attended that university.

The value in that is no different than the Catholic who loves Notre Dame, buys the Fightin’ Irish hats and sweatshirts, and has never once visited South Bend, Indiana.

You can’t put an exact value on that type of support, and only a few schools in the nation actually have it.

Texas is one. Oklahoma is another.

Hence the reason the SEC cannot wait to have them.

Texas A&M got away from the University of Texas in 2011 for several valid reasons, and had successfully cultivated an SEC niche in the state that was distinct and marketable.

The Aggies now have to deal with the Longhorns again, and if they sincerely believed they are as good as they say the last thing they should fear is the University of Texas.

They should welcome the return of one of the greatest college football games in America. But they don’t want the game, nor do they want Texas, or Oklahoma, as conference partners, for a reason.

In the last two years, Texas A&M has been a better football program than Texas, but we know what is coming.

Both Bevo and Boomer will make Reveille’s life more difficult, and that much harder to win a conference, much less a national title, in football.

When they were all paired together in the Big 12 South between 1996 and 2010, A&M went to two Big 12 title games, and the last one was 1998.

Texas or Oklahoma reached the conference title game every other time, and A&M was firmly behind both rivals.

The same has been true in the SEC West; the Aggies have yet to reach a conference title game, and the best it has finished in the division is a couple of second-place finishes since 2011.

Texas and A&M should both be more concerned about Oklahoma than each other, but that’s another rant.

The Aggies spent millions to be where they are, and believed they were done with “tu” because the SEC was watching out for them.

They weren’t.

Because, in the end, the SEC’s priority was Texas rather than Texas A&M.

This is one of the biggest bullshit myths around.  Spend a few days in East Texas and you'll see a shitload of maroon shirts worn by people who have never set foot in a college classroom.  A lot of Longhorn fans and a lot of aggy fans never went to those respective schools.  I'm sure you can say that about a good number of Alabama and Auburn fans.  And LSU fans.  "T-shirt" fans are not unique to Texas.

100%.  JFC, spend some time up north and count the number of Notre Dame bandwagon riders.  Or coon-ass cajuns and their LSU gear.  Big, prominent schools have large fanbases. No shit agroids.  Water is wet.

Perhaps a little unrelated... in the link, on the statement, is the OU seal... What the hell is that guy doing? looks like he's waving away a fart.

He’s sowing meth seeds …

Change is always hard. Moving to a more competitive league is unnerving to some. OU and OSU have a history of being in the same conference — I understand that. Of course, OU and OSU should work together when they can for the betterment of our state, but there are times when that is not possible (I don’t recall sharing my bag of dicks with Coach Gundy every year). The reality is, in today’s world, conference realignment doesn’t allow for it.

So are realignment talks going to be going away?

In about 3.5 billion years, the sun’s luminosity will have increased by 40% and boiled off any remaining water on the planet, so definitely by then.

Ut is #1 in revenue. Who fucking cares if the people paying $29.99 went to our school. I just need to know if they want the receipt in the bag or if the would like me to hand it to them so I can ring up the next one.

Obligatory fuck Bob Stoops, but he had an opinion piece published by The Oklahoman this afternoon.

https://www.oklahoman.com/story/opinion/2021/07/27/bob-stoops-oklahoma-sec-decision-leave-big-12-southeastern-conference/5390626001/

Even though it would be rebranded to be the SEC West Network, technically, wouldn’t Aggy play all their games on what was originally the Longhorn Network? That is going to sting a little
And HS football games! Ha ha ha
The only people running with the pod stuff are fans from what I can see.  No one with actual sources seems to be talking about pods.  I think it's going to be 2 divisions.
SECN posted some hypothetical pods
