2023 Transfer Thread - Texas Capitalized, ATM Victimized

I don’t have an opinion one way or another on if he is or isn’t worth taking a shot with. My personal line is felonious physical or sexual assault or worse. Anything short of that I’d be fine with leaving it to the staff if they decide it’s worth taking the chance.

He's already shown he can't be counted on and let his team down on multiple occasions after getting multiple chances. I get he might be super talented, but that's not the culture you want to embrace.

He was just speeding in the parking garage. It’s not like he Sergio Kindle’d / yeeted himself into an apt complex. I say bring him in and do some basic defensive driving.

Seems an interesting move to shit on a kid when his announcement did not disparage aggy at all.

No gas all brakes.
Based on video evidence, I don't think he's all brakes either

This is the exact opposite of what people who are way plugged in that some 16 year old from Rockwall were saying ("I think Denver Harris sticks around"). Just more aggy rationalization

As far as transfers go. Dont they have to have their academics in order?

With everything else Harris has been doing,  do you really think playing school was at the top of his things to do list?

There was more than just that.
suspeneded for breaking curfew.
involved in some sort of drug dealer at a minimum as the driver.
maybe smoking weed in the locker room.

No dead hookers? Then I think we’re all good here. Sign him up.

A&M won’t let him back in.  They’re desperate and have lower standards than we do (as far as character issues).  Harris is a train wreck waiting to happen.  Pass

FIFY (though I agree - probably do not want)

Kids will be kids? At least if they were rated 5*

Wasn’t Harris a supposed Texas lock until last second shenanigans? I may be misremembering but perhaps there is something to the theory he may have been coaxed into the aggy cult. And once there rebelled like a spoiled child? Yeah I may be reaching

The kid needs to take some time away from football and figure out what direction he wants to take his life. Of course his people won’t let him do that so hopefully he finds a program with very strong leadership and discipline. He is not even welcome on North Shore campus right now.

This seems bad.  Pass.

Grad transfer? Holy shit, if you have half a brain, you can graduate aggy in two years?

Kinda late on the reply but I commented on the '23 aggy thread about Chase Lane transferring in the spring with a masters degree AND 2 years of eligibility.

It's as if they didn't even need the ridiculous enrollment numbers to dilute what constitutes a "degree" over there...

The read on him (and not just from bizzle) is that he's VERY immature, but not actually malign. You need to surround a kid like that with driven peers and a good cultural structure. And you can't have too many of them at once. Sooo... you just have to do that math. Could work if you think he's the guy to invest that effort into.

If we do decide to take him and he does great for us the aggy bitching screenshot thread is going to be spicy

It's funny seeing these reactions after the reactions to Hall/Billingsley the past week

His family believes he is just immature and easily influenced. They SWEAR Chris Marshall is the bad apple who has influenced Denver negatively. His family has been trying to get him away from Chris. But that’s the problem, people needs to make him have some accountability and not just blame his action on others.

Jeff Banks is following the Stanford LB (Levani Damuni) who just entered the portal.  The RS Sr. was a team captain and Stanford's leading tackler the last 2 seasons.  Also did a 2 year LDS mission before enrolling - so he's older than your typical SR.  Got that old man strength.

Also shows that hobbit doesn't have control of the team.  People talk about 8-4 for them next year but I don't see it.  For players to even be competitive, they have to have mental toughness and be physical with some kind of drive, every week.  The younger players especially don't respect Jimbo and that isn't going to just be fixed with words or looch interviews. The older players didn't seem to step in and teach.  It's a real culture problem, which has nothing to do with talent, but everything to do with mental toughness, drive and work.  8-4 is the ceiling.

Well, luckily it is hard to get into trouble in Austin.

If Denver wants in, tell him he has one chance to walk the straight and narrow.  Tell him he won't play next year.  Tell him if he makes one mistake ... that's it.

This is a good point. Austin is not for children.

Why would we take a transfer that we don't plan on playing until 2024? That makes no sense

We already have one of those in Agyie Hall (maybe?). No thanks, no interest in bringing this kid in. The only thing it does is fire a shot at Muhammed. Let him go work his way back at Texas State.

Don't see why having Denver Harris would be any different than a Ramonce Taylor.

For reference from wiki: In May 2006, Taylor was arrested on marijuana charges.[3] Longhorn coach Mack Brown dismissed Taylor from the team due to academic and legal troubles.[4][5] In September 2006, he pleaded guilty to the felony drug charges and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and five years deferred adjudication.[5] In early 2008, he was put in jail for five months for violating his probation.[1] Taylor was expected to be taken in the 2007 NFL Draft,[6][7] but he was not chosen.

This has been covered before, Harris had the lower amount of over 5oz or whatever to 5 pounds.  Romance had just under 5 pounds when he was busted.  He literally had right at 5 pounds of weed…

Ramonce never played again after his arrest, which is a damn shame. It will be another damn shame if Denver Harris never plays again, but it won’t be here if he does. Keep in mind guys like Harris and Stewart dicked over Sarkisian and took bags at the 11th hour. Those things tend to not be forgotten.

I was just responding to the question of why wouldn't we have Harris if we had Ramonce. Ramonce was kicked off the team. There are comparable players out there without the headache. Personally, I couldn't give a shit one way or the other as long as he isn't a threat to society. I would just like to see us win.

Lockerroom isn't strong enough yet for that type of player. Ramonce worked because we had VY, Studdard, and crew. We are just getting our feet under us.

Maybe it’s kinda hokey but the team chemistry seems pretty good right now.  Seems like kids of playing hard for each other and have bought in.  Don’t need any one fucking that up even if he’s very talented.  This kid ain’t going a full year without fucking up again.

Harris is a bad idea with that many incidents in 4 months.  He'll end up in serious trouble at some point.  Probably manage to take down a few teammates with him too.

I am convinced if Denver had attended fish camp the gomers would keep him regardless.

You’re approaching Helobious levels of general wrongness. It’s like watching a toddler burn their hand on a stove and then offer up the other hand without a second thought.

The people that are supposed to be leaders are the young dudes going into this next year. Worthy-soph, Ewers-fresh, Sanders-soph. A couple years older and they could handle a cat like that. Right now they are more than likely to join in. We have a good thing going. Guys are going about their business. Almost EVERYONE is improving on a YOY basis. The ones that aren't are being emcouraged to ask Dr Strange a favor.

Is the consensus here that these transgressions are too much of a risk for the amount of talent he has? We took a chance on Hall (maybe we shouldn’t have?)   given his upside. Isn’t a blue chip corner prospect worth some risk?

He got kicked from a Jimbo program in year one. That’s a massive red flag.
Jimbo will overlook all kinds of shit, sexual assault, drug charges, etc. So he was either a massive character problem that’s not likely to fix itself or he’s nowhere near as good as advertised.

Taking Harris would reek of desperation. Make him have to transfer down a level and prove he can keep his nose clean and grades up for a year before reconsidering.

Also, if a player is truly expelled from school, does he really have to transfer? Wouldn't it just be starting over?

There is a difference between having that player on your roster, potentially for several years, and having them get into trouble versus actively pursuing a kid that had already been arrested or kicked off a roster at another school. And every kid is different. *Maybe* Ramonce was a fine teammate and player who also dealt drugs. That doesn’t mean Harris is a fine teammate who keeps his criminality out of the locker room. Multiple transgressions in 4 months and apparently kicked out of school by the academic side sort of speak to that.

And why take a flyer on a CB if all spots? We’ve got Watts, Brooks, solid prospects behind them, and Muhammad hopefully coming in, and Barron can play CB as well. Why bring in a cancer risk at that spot? It’s stupid.

Well yeah, that’s kind of 6th Street’s whole thing. We’re talking about a guy who wanted Sam to be benched for a redshirt freshman Casey Thompson.

Harris will end up at Ole Miss, Tennessee , Miami or Florida State. I see a very small chance of him landing here.

Yeah you take that guy for sure.  Enduring 5 years at Stanford as student athlete and also doing a LDS mission.  Work ethic/maturity checked off.
