They could’ve picked up the one year option for $1.8M then reassess if they want to resign him or let him walk to free up time for Smith, Eason, KJ Martin, and whatever other forward will be on the ‘23-24 squad, but instead gave him 3 years/$22M?

it means the rockets won't do something dumb like sign wood to an extension which makes it a win.  maybe they look to package 17 and 26 to move up a little?

If the Astros hold on to the a 3 run lead in the 9th, this is a damn near perfect day to be a Horns/Houston fan. Oh well, 90% is still an A.

Getting Bamba for the MLE isn't going to affect anyone's development, nor will it have a negative effect on the Rockets cap. They are going to have $80M to spend next year in a really shitty FA year.

i meant not horrible given that they didn't pick up his option.  when they did that i was worried they'd give him something like $10-$12 mil/year so 7ish isn't that bad.

I like this a lot more with team option year 3, and I hope (but know that's not the case) that in year 1 the bonus is tied to games lost.

I literally was thinking the same thing when I read about the bonus.

Stone has done a good job overall but he gets too cute with these role players' contract. Last year it was Theis and now Tate. Great guys no doubt but no need to lock them to a long term deal. We want 2 max slots for next year FA and beyond

Next summer’s class sucks. They will either have to acquire a big name/contract via trade or hold off until free agent class of ‘24.

The Theis contract was stupid but I don't have a huge issue with Tate.

As said above next years class sucks which makes Tate's contract a little easier to swallow.

I'm seeing some Gordon rumors with the Lakers. Anything of value we could get?

Not that I fully believe any rumors involving Gordon because they happen every year.

No. Absolutely nothing except for 27, 28 or 29

draft picks but that’s literally their only traceable assets and I’d think they use them to get off Westbrook if possible, or chasing a bigger fish than Gordon.

daryl wants gordon.  i think he'll figure out a way to make it happen.

Gordon, House, PJ Tucker and Harden.

I see Morey still wants to be in Houston.

i'm pretty excited for summer league this year (starting with tonight's game against orlando).  looking forward to getting good looks at the three picks from this year, as well as seeing garuba getting some run.  lineup should be:

nix/tyty

christopher

eason

jabari

garuba

i think that stone is doing a good job with the rebuild, but i cannot figure out why he is so hesitant to pull the trigger on an EG trade.  hopefully it all makes sense in due time.

2023 cap space news:

and jk about seeing garuba tonight:

It seems like they want a first that is mid-teens if not lightly protected, rather than something in the 20s

I'm probably not going to get around to this until tomorrow or Saturday, but Lowe apparently talks some Houston here, probably worth a listen

Who gives a shit about 2023 FA. It is a really shitty class.

Stone wants an unprotected future 1st for Gordon, he doesn't want a pick in the 20s, so likely a 1st rounder that is 3-4 years out. Houston has had 5 of them in the last 2 drafts, but traded two of them for Sengun.

If I had to take one of those team's future 1sts, I would go with the Suns. If it's 2024 or later, that's a good deal. If it's 2023, then none of those will be below 25.

Eason has the ugliest shot I have ever seen. Uh… what position does he project to? He should be fined every time he jacks up a 3.

Shawn Marion is the guy who has always popped into my head as a player comparison for Eason but maybe it's just them being the same size with ugly shots.

When I saw him shoot I was like fuck I didn't realize we drafted a poor mans Marion

I kept hearing this in my head every time he shot the ball (17 times!).

That's rather astounding for Harden to do. Finally willing to build a contender!  Houston North might have a chance this year.

The problem I see for the 76ers, is how they get the salary match. They don't have any expiring deals that can match Gordon, and the Rockets already have 18 contracts. It will take a 3rd team for sure.

ok i think i'm gonna like tari eason.

Hr is definitely outperforming Smith despite the Marion style shot.

I’m gonna start a new thread about how awesome Hakeem was. I mean or I could just talk about it in our circle jerk thread and not make my own thread about like anyone gives a fuck. Just thought id throw that out.

I’m going to sound like a degenerate here, but does anybody have a full game replay from last night?

I watched a replay of the first half at lunch at Lupe and it was a pretty painful brickfest from both sides.

Yeah, that has been my take away through the 1st 2 games. These guys are 2-3 year projects at the earliest. Makes sense considering they are teenagers.
