All the sudden, just like that on a random Wednesday, Mark Packer is off the air and gone. I see nothing on the inner webs. He had a great show for everything college football.

Radio for the non poors.

Maybe they got tired of him asking 5 minute questions and not leaving guests enough time to answer.

"Hey coach, here's something I've been thinking about for a while now. It just seems like things are upside down right now, and I'll tell you what. I just don't understand it. I really don't. I really don't. You have guys that are supposed to be getting a college education, and they are just chasing money now. Just dollar signs. I don't understand it. I mean, where have we gotten to? What place have we gotten to? How did we get here? I mean, it's been on my mind for a long time now. It's been brewing but now it's here. It really is. It's here. And I don't think it's right. What about the kid's education? I mean, it's a college sport, not a professional sport. It's not even the minor leagues. It's a-ma-teur athletics. But now you are paying players, using NIL and whatever else, and the college education is just an irritation. It really is. I mean, I just don't know how we let ourselves get into this situation. I really don't. But it just seems to me that we've lost sight of what's really important here. I don't know, is that just me? Do others see it the way I do? Maybe I'm just crazy, I don't know. Maybe I'm just out to lunch with this whole deal. But it just seems wrongheaded to me. It really does. I'll tell you what, it really does. Totally, totally wrongheaded. Your thoughts?"

I just listened to him today, did it happen mid show?!

He announced during the last segment.

You will find your life is much better when you give up sports talk radio and listen to music.

I used to listen to everything but then I realized I don't give a shit when "Dave" calls in to ask "Who do you think the back up QB for the Bills will be this year".

GDit!  Don’t leave us hanging.  Who did he think the Bills backup QB should be?

I actually like Dusty and Danny in the morning (Dusty ousux Dvoracek and Danny Kanell) because they talk about random stuff on there that is funny.  If it was 100% sports I would not listen.  Probably 60-75% sports.

Interesting. I'm completely opposite. If I tune into a sports radio program, I want to listen to people discussing sports. I couldn't give two shits about their personal lives, inside jokes, personalities, etc. If I want that sort of stuff, I'll tune into Howard or one of the other talk or specialty satellite channels.

I'm with you on this.

When I'm excited about Texas in a sport, I listen to XM84 avidly. When Texas is sucking balls, especially during football season, I can't even turn it on. Sucks.

Packer was incapable of doing anything but saccharine. He'd never take a strong position regarding anything of controversy other than wishing things would never change. He was low on historical accuracy. He never has had a critical thing to say about a coach unless everyone else was already saying it. To call him a Clemson homer would be doing a disservice to homers. The people calling into his show were some of the most uninformed pollyannas of all time. I'm not surprised they decided they could do better.

Longhorn Jeff.. is that you?

I enjoyed First Team when they had McElroy.. I never thought i'd say that, but it's true.  He said he rooted for UT growing up but he always takes shot on them, but it was better than the glass always half full views of Dusty.

I wasn't a huge fan of the show, but at least it was usually listenable since it didn't have the annoying formula radio troll that ESPN loves to include.  Rick Neuheisel could have interesting takes, but his idiot cohost would always soon prompt a channel change.

Vickie from WV was the WORST.  She liked WV but was also a Duke basketball fan and, shocker, Alabama football fan.

Except for the 300 days a year he's on vacation.

Sirius used to have Bill King in the AM and he was fantastic with college football, he left when the mothership took over channel 84. Now with Pack gone, it’s a clown show
