Cancelling becuase of potential storms?  Never heard that one before.

Been in Kansas all my life and that's a new one to me, as well.

Iowegians love their children more than we do.

It happens pretty regularly in the "new" tornado alley of the lower south on expected outbreak days. I noticed that weather.gov has moved around the location of Storm Prediction Center Convective Outlooks. Hopefully it isn't on the chopping block, also I noticed that it was Norman that called for the Minnesota tornado watch. That seems unusual for how far Norman is from Minnesota, but I don't really keep up with Minnesota severe weather to know if that's new.

This never happened when I was growing up, and I saw a 'nader from the school bus once.

It has to do with the recent capability of getting these big tornado/straight line wind outbreaks predicted days out in advance.  They've been talking about this since Thursday, and it's as humid as I've ever seen it out there.  If the sun pops through, we're 100% fucked.  If the clouds stay, it'll be a nothingburger.

Looks like you guys have a river of moisture streaming up from the Pacific, across Mexico, and West Texas feeding the storms in the northern plains.

Hardly any of this stuff is hitting the ground, but it goes to show how much moisture is in the atmosphere over the desert coming up toward you guys.

I loathed that town for a lot of years.  2 awful ex gfs, and 2 awful roommates/former friends came from there.

The Sewer and I have made peace since then, and it’s improved a ton since the early aughts.  But I’m about the last person one would need to explain leaving that town to.

The Wendy's at the truck stop on the south side is excellent.  But other than that, it is not an appealing city.  Even the Sheel's sucks.

Marto Brewing slams and goes hard.  Bob Roe’s wings fuck.  They have some good mountain bike trails by flatland standards.

Thats all I got.

I see that wing place is just off 29.  I will definitely check them out.

Welp, one of my sister's friends was killed in the St. Louis tornado.  Total death toll was five.  They think it ws an EF3.  My sis and my nephew avoided the damage.

It isn’t severe but I thought it was interesting. We have had 8” of rain over the last 96 hours and we might get another inch overnight. That is looking west from my front yard/brome field towards Hillsboro KS.

The US record for the most rapid temperature change is 49°F in 2 minutes, recorded in Spearfish, South Dakota.

The greatest temperature change within a 24-hour period in the US is 103°F, recorded in Loma, Montana. The temperature rose from -54°F to 49°F in 24 hours.

We haven’t had a completely dry weekend since back in November.  Hopefully the rain today passes through early enough to not completely ruin the Belmont Stakes.

No rain in today’s forecast means a dry weekend finally.

On the return trip taking the oldest to CSU, six years ago, we encountered a storm with winds so powerful the rain put thousands of tiny dents on one side of the Suburban we rented. I learned these derecho storms should be taken seriously.

I guess I was blissfully unaware for most of my life.

I live just south of the red there.  Gotta tighten the ratchet straps holding down my trailer.

Derechos are maybe the most terrifying wind storm.  The one in central Iowa in 2020 just laid a path of waste that would make a tornado blush, in terms of total damage dollars.

Yesterday could have definitely been worse.

Other than the fact we still have leaves on the trees, it's very Christmas'y out.

Like the microburst storm we got here in Austin earlier this year. I’ve been through hurricanes, and it looked exactly like that as it was happening.

We’re expecting anywhere from 4-8” inches of snow today and have already surpassed 4” as I’m about to go clear off driveway again. Also had this after a Dr. visit this afternoon…

You're right on 2 points here.  Low impact it is not.

Would guess 12-14" in Golden.

The snow was nice, but man was yesterday morning terrifying on the roads.  Everything just froze overnight and iced over.

So just like Texas

Atmospheric river originating in the Philippines has been hitting western Washington all week; nearly all rivers on this side of the state will reach all-time record flood stages this evening. Six million people are under flood watches or warnings (fortunately we have a LOT of hills, but the valleys are getting hammered).

Winter tires - you will never worry on the roads again
