Dude delinquent in payment to lottery pool sues friend group when they didn't pay him his "share"

Guy was in the group for six years.   If a guy in my group for six years has that issue - and  we’ve backed him before when he was late - I’d pay him. Hell, I’d pay him just because 4k and change is not that much out of 60k plus per person.

Six. Fucking. Years.

I don’t need the whole payout that badly.

I'd need to see what the average of the other pool members falling behind is to this dude's average of falling behind to comment.

it seems like this guy's a bum if all of his "best friends" are willing to write him out of their lives for $4500 each.

He’s a bum for several reasons in that article. He had just lost his job as an auto parts runner?  Red flag. A 60k Canadian dollar windfall is a dream come true and life changing?  Red flag.

that’s the kind of person that take the money, buys a 60k muscle car, keeps his liability only insurance because it’s the cheapest rate, totals his car 6 months later while driving like an asshole, and doesn’t understand how he isn’t any better off than before the money.

(1) He is a bit of an asshole for not regularly paying and just mooching a bit on his friends.

(2) His friends are assholes for not including him after 6 years of being in the pool with them. Yeah, he didn't pay on time, but it sounds like he always eventually madegood on his debts. And it sounds like they agreed he would be in on the next round despite being short $30.

(3) He must really suck to be around for his friends to write him off over $4,500 per person.

(4) On the Plaintiff's side, what lawyer would take this case? On contingency, it just seems like a huge time suck that at most will get you like 30k in fees. If he is paying hourly, well then maybe he is even a bigger asshole than I thought if he can afford to pay a lawyer but not make good on $30.

(5) On the Defense side, these guys are idiots for not just paying him his share or at least a good portion of it (which, in my view it seems he is likely owed). It'll likely cost them more than the $4,500 per person to litigate this.

Bad decisions all the way around.

Edit: Look at the post above, I just realized we are talking Canadian dollars. That makes this whole thing even more fucking stupid. Sure, the winnings per person might pay for a few meals at Tim Hortons, but that is about it.

This story confirms he was late in the payment but that he believed that he was in the pool.

It would be good if either side could produce the text messages and whether his inclusion was dependent on him catching up on the fees or not. He was told he would need to pay $30 and put an additional $10 into the pool, according to text messages transcribed in the filing.

IF he didn't do the bolded, is he still entitled?

again i think it's telling that it would only "cost" each person $4,500 of their share and they all said, nah.

Also ‘their dreams came true’ as evidenced by this monster windfall…

Reading the story, I now realize these guys are from Windsor so they are likely all assholes. FWIW, Windsor Ontario is South Detroit.

Fuck them all, let the attorneys have the money.

He said he found out about the win in October, after he had just bought the group pizzas.

‘I got online and I was just going through social media and what comes up,’ Philip said.

‘The same guy that’s eating my pizza is holding a million-dollar cheque, and that’s how I found out.’

Sounds like a fun pizza party. Actual photo of Phillip seeing that million-dollar cheque:

oddly funny this dude's name is philip. I imagine this was the said in the argument at the pizza party.

You know, Philip, you talk tough.
You act tough.

You march a bunch of weenies
around a field...

...but the fact of the matter is, son,
you are an ROTC colonel...

...because that's all you ever could be.

And now look at you.

Anxious to get yourself martyred...

...hoping somebody's
gonna love you for it.

You're pathetic, Philip.

l don't know how else to say it.
You're just pathetic.

And that is the only reason any of us
ever had anything to do with you.

We never really liked you, son.

We just felt sorry for you.

Hes going to win.  In the past when he has been behind, they allowed him to stay in and get whole.  they never told him he was out, mainly b/c they didnt win.  now they win when hes behind and they tell him hes out.  if hes behind and in when they lose, then hes in when hes behind and they win.

he will win his share. they will each pay out the $4500 owed to him anyway. but his lawyers will take 40% of that amount. they win, he wins but loses.

yea, they don't like him.

Those broke dicks should just spend it on something exempt from judgment and tell him to fuck off.

True.  Who the fuck would judge a hooker or pile of cocaine?

or?

That amount would only cover either or for me.  Surly degenerate.

How long was the time between the pool guys winning, hiding it from him, and him finding out on social media? If the pool guys were still hanging out with him and eating his free pizza after winning, they should have known better than to post that shit on social media if they were online friends with him and cut him out of the pot.
