And this is definitely feeling old school.
June 5Jun 5 7-17 open w/2 episodes. Not a one of us deserves a thing so good. Also. I claim La’an for my own. The rest of you degens can fight over nurse Chapel.

June 9Jun 9 Author I like a Trek series that's not afraid to be optimistic with a crew that doesn't hate each other. also, continue to be on Team Una.

God it looks so good. I love this crew. Especially Pike and Spock. They do such a good job. Peck nails a young Nimoy...and Anson Mount is just the perfect captain(not just talking Pike here). I like the new Scotty. Not completely sold on Kirk(haven't been) BUT he's not bad, and is growing on me. NO one can pull Shatner, just like no one can be Han Solo but Ford.

People be mad about it, but the show runners and writers room have so much warning to close it out Season 3 hasn't even aired yet, Season 4 should start production soon. Season 5 likely won't air until 2027 and 6 episodes can run from 50 min to 75 min in this day and age

June 12Jun 12 I’m not a fan of prequels that gotta fit into timeline of events before and after, but this one works. We know Pike’s fate and watching it inevitably happen to a beloved character adds a lot of weight. And dread. Pull this of and I’m gonna cry at the finale.

July 17Jul 17 Star Trek: Hot New Worlds Literally every person on this cast, regular or guest, is so damn attractive
July 18Jul 18 Spoilers, but if you opened this thread after the first 2 aired, it's your own fault: 3x01 was so good. Very dark too. If i had a nickel for every second parter of a Trek cliffhanger where they resolved it by lulling the enemy to sleep, I'd have 2 nickels now (Best of Both Worlds and Hegemony). Fantastic visuals with the binary stars. 3x02 was a big tone shift to more light hearted. And yes, that was Q's voice. Thought it was a bit goofy at times, but overall, a good palette cleanser after the darkness of 3x01. The only "downside" right now is you know who has to live through the remainder of the show. Of the Hegemony away team, you knew Sam and M'Benga had to survive to be in TOS, and in future episodes, Pike, Uhura, Scotty, Una, Spock and Chapel all have to make it through unscathed. Ortega, La'An, Pelia, Batel and Mitchell (the Asian bridge member), you're on notice at some point.

And it was so random, like no buildup...i would have given the show a TON of credit to pull that off. Not because I don't like Ortega, she's fine, and sometimes a good part of the cast...but I would have LOVED for them to pull that trigger and shake up the show.
July 18Jul 18 I knew it was gonna be a Q episode as soon as I saw the person's outline outside the window of Spock's room.

Looks like we have to deal with (suffer through?) a PTSD episode. Discovery did that already (Detmer)

July 18Jul 18 Also she is necessary to keep around just for her brother to be a love interest for Uhura. Hopefully 3x02 officially killed the Spock/Chapel “Will they won’t they” bullshit Chapel wants to go on a break, comes back with a new boyfriend

July 24Jul 24 It actually blows my mind that they basically confirmed a 30 year old fan theory in this episode. As far as I'm aware, no canon Star Trek media to date had yet even hinted that Trelane was probably a Q, much less that he seems to actually be Q Junior. I know they didn't name him in the episode, but that's clearly Trelane. And honestly, how many current Star Trek fans under the age of 50 have even seen The Squire of Gothos? That's some next level fan service. Bravo to the showrunners.

July 28Jul 28 Author 17 minutes ago, Drew said: I was worried some would say it was forced or overly done fan service...but yeah, you're spot on. I think it's brilliant. Is it a retcon? Well, the whole Q thing was partly inspired by the Squire of Gothos, and Trelane literally told Kirk that he was basically immortal and had been observing Earth for centuries, and he exhibited the kind of powers and messing around that Q was known for.
July 28Jul 28 It's the kinda fan service that only a show runner who reveres the IP would ever think of. The people who wrote that script spent 30 YEARS wondering "is he or isn't he?" They realized they had the power to answer the question themselves. Edited July 28Jul 28 by Parliament

July 29Jul 29 The occasional silly character building episodes have been a Star Trek staple since TOS. Its part of what makes it great. If you want constant pew pew lasers then watch marvel movies.

Spoiler I grew up watching old episodes in the late 70s and 80s with my dad, who was an enormous fan of the show. When we got our first VCR some time in the early 80s, my dad made sure to record every episode to watch later, which he did...frequently. Come to think of it, a love of the original series might have been one of the few genuine interests we shared. That first scene and then the "bloopers" afterward had me grinning from ear to ear, but with a tear in my eye. I really wish he'd have lived long enough to see Strange New Worlds -- he would've loved it. RIP, Pop.
