That looks like a good burger, but I don't understand why they would close for the season? Can't cook burgers in the winter?

Only outdoor seating and its BYOS during winter. And why work in the winter if you don’t have to?

Hot Dog Shop - Houston's Classic Sports Bar & Restaurant Since 1985

Located in houston, off beltway 8 near West Little York. IT's also a fucking tremendous dive bar, the kind which we're seeing less and less of these days:

That’s practically LA to some posters here.

I'm not sure it counts as an old fashioned hamburger stand, but this place was tasty last time I was in Alpine:

https://visitalpinetx.com/places/bock-burger-takeaway/

Cash only, has like two tables outside. Very limited menu. Couple of burger choices, couple of sandwiches. Two or three types of beer (including shiner bock), hippy sodas. Hippy chips or salad as sides.

Its just somebody's house. You order at the kitchen window. I think they are only open a few times a week. They make their own bread. Pretty pretty good.

this place has saved me a few times, it's about the only thing open in alpine on sunday and monday night. it's far from an old fashioned burger place though, more akin to a new school fancy thick burger.

Moo Moo's Victoria, Tx (new location in Port Lavaca). Burgers and Fried Chicken are both great. When you order fried chicken, they yell out your order so the back knows what to drop in the grease. try the gizzards if you're a fan  ...

You're not wrong.  I just checked Top Notch -- four cheeseburger combos is just over $50.

Never heard of it.  Whereabouts?  Pats, Scotts are my faves, though haven’t been to Fat Pats in 30 years or so.  Wonder if she got skinny in the intervening years?

Gene’s was my go to, but it’s dead.

Ate at Gene’s some but it was never the go-to that Scott’s was.  Chili Cheese burger rings a bell for some reason.

Man, there are few things better than a good order of onion rings. And those look to fit the bill.

One of the few things I miss about growing up in South Texas are independently owned restaurants like this.

These are at a beer joint between rockdale and Cameron area called the oak club. Middle of no where

Headed out to Thorndale to Schroeder’s for a big juicy burger, closed for some reason (spring break maybe).  Sine we were only 20 minutes away, drove north to the Oak Club.  Good burger
