April 12Apr 12 40 minute wait at Herd’s with maybe 6-7 people ahead of us at almost 2pm. Drive down the street to Dairyland and they’re closed. Wasn’t ever much in Jacksboro worth a damn anyways, now it looks like even that is long gone.
April 14Apr 14 Popular Post So now that I am retired and spent my first year doing as little as possible I have decided to venture out into the world of burgers. My goal is to find the best burger within 100 miles or so of my house in Georgetown. I am willing to go farther but I am going to start there. I am going to try and go at least twice a week. I want the “Old Fashioned Burger” deal so those are the places I am looking for. The first place that caught my attention was in Cameron and is called Tex Miller. I am open for suggestions and I will post photos and reviews and maybe a video or two. Please offer your suggestions, other than go fuck yourself, here. Tex Miller looks cool…..

April 16Apr 16 I work a bit south of the Buddha Burger food truck on Metric, so I picked up some cheeseburgers, fries and onion rings tonight. Vertict: burgers were very very good, a clear step up from the P Terry's / Mighty Fine / Phil's / Top Notch / Hopdoddy realm. Fries were "eh". Onion rings were quite good. We will return. Throw some business their way.
April 17Apr 17 Mighty Fine is still around? Been only once and that was enough. Mighty fine is plenty good, esp when we want a quick weeknight burger.
April 17Apr 17 Mighty fine is GREAT when you've had a long weekend of sports and you need to collapse into a chair in a well air conditioned room with unlimited ice water and coke.

Nothing fancy, but done well, good fresh ingredients - and you get it exactly how you want it, every time (grilled onions, extra pickles, mustard and mayo...for example. And they get it right). They have good fries and onion rings. It's quick and consistent, but not shitty fast-food. It's not a "destination," as in "OMG you gotta try Mighty Fine," but it's definitely a "we're running errands this afternoon, we can get a burger for lunch at Mighty Fine while we're out," and everyone is happy.

Ideal burger has (on the bottom bun) mayo mixed in with shredded lettuce and shredded cheddar, which not only is a good flavor combo, but is a good barrier between the patty and the bottom bun to keep the bottom bun from getting soggy. Next you have the patty. Pickles on top of that with ketchup to hold them in place. Two slices of tomato over that (seasoned with salt and pepper). Next, you've got chopped onions mixed with a little mustard and a light swipe of mustard on the top bun. Toasted buns enhances this further. Edited April 17Apr 17 by dcbc
April 17Apr 17 That sounds pretty good except for the ketchup. Ketchup has no place on a burger if you’re over 12 Edited April 17Apr 17 by Ghost of NMAS

April 17Apr 17 Burger purists crack me up, and they come in all kinds. I worked at Wendy's for a couple of years, the toppings were (recited in order, always) mayo, ketchup, pickles, onion, tomato, lettuce, mustard. Pickles, lettuce and mustard was far and away the most common order. Mayo & ketchup was second. After that it was dealer's choice.

I usually don't stray too far from the formula though, even though a mushroom burger or something with bleu cheese or an egg is delicious. But particularly if I'm at a place I haven't been, it's a burger, all the way, ketchup, mustard, mayo, shredded cheddar cheese. If they can get that right, I'll be back. For most of my childhood, I was a "hold the pickles" type. Finally it clicked, and I was really happy about being able to simplify my order to "all the way" or "drag it through the garden" if my stewardess or one of my fellow passengers speaks jive. 1 minute ago, Texzilla58 said: Whataburger spicy ketchup belongs on the patty melt. KN Drive In in Cuero makes a good burger, and I love their fried burritos covered in chili cheese. I'm sure Gonzales has a burger spot
April 18Apr 18 spicy ketchup is good with fries. I would not use it to dress a burger or a patty melt though.

April 18Apr 18 I guess to each their own, but a burger just needs Pickes, onions and mustard (cheese if youre hungry). I won't quarrel with folks that want other toppings, but Mayo only belongs on club sandwichs and artichokes. Edited April 18Apr 18 by ftf82
