May 7, 20223 yr My favorite growing up here in SA was this Austin Hwy icon. Terrace Burgers were beyond the beyond bros…
May 7, 20223 yr Wait! Check that. My favorite growing up was at Frank Sill’s Snack Shack just down the street from Bun’n’Barrel…

I think the San Pedro location made it into the late 90's before closing. I always suspected the West Ave one was a laundering front like Fred's Fish Fry because it never had any business yet it remained open.

Every time we drove past Fred’s Fish he’d say, “Fred’s fish, any fish you wish!” /csb

May 7, 20223 yr Griffs still has a couple of jiiints in Ft Worth. The last multi store chain that embraces grease.

May 7, 20223 yr They do! Ate there earlier this week, double double, large tots and a coke, was damn good. I grew up in Amarillo and this place has been here forever. It sits a couple blocks north of Rt 66.

May 7, 20223 yr They aren't tacos. They are.....Chico's tacos, fried concoctions swimming in a liquidy red sauce with lots of shredded cheese. They are an EP thing, and really only an EP thing, and I think they're awesome. They are literally their own species of food, neither tacos nor flautas nor enchiladas. And again, they are a great side with their burgers. They were also briefly an Austin thing. RIP Chuco’s/Screaming Goat.
May 7, 20223 yr Inspired by this thread, I went to a little Cajun burger stand yesterday. Not too shabby.

Probably ate there twice a week in high school as it was cheap af when we snuck out for lunch. It has rightfully reclaimed it’s place in my takeout rotation with the demise of Whataburger.
May 7, 20223 yr FIf you’re ever near New Haven, CT area, can’t recommend Louis Lunch enough, Top5 burger place for me... Ted’s is just up the highway a bit from New Haven, another good burger place... Steamed gooey goodness. Edited May 7, 20223 yr by Underdog

May 7, 20223 yr Out my way. Along I-15 at State Highway 76, between San Diego and Temecula. It's fucking amazing. No indoor seating at all. Owned by a Scottish dude.

May 9, 20223 yr Pick's Drive In - Cloverdale, Calf. I like to hit the upscale places when visiting Sonoma County for wine tasting.
May 9, 20223 yr Man, almost forgot Husky Boy burgers in Laguna Beach, Ca. -- great spot. Sea breeze, great scenery, and pretty damned good flat top griddle burgers. They make a pastrami burger, too.....it's solid:
May 9, 20223 yr Little Red Wagon in Round Rock closed in 2020. Which leaves Chili Willie's in Rio Hondo as my favorite greasy burger. It's a life saver after a day fishing out of Arroyo City.
May 9, 20223 yr Little Red Wagon was legit. They made a good CFS sandwich also. I've yet to hit up Tio Dan's yet to see if the burger is the same. This was our go-to spot when I was growing up in SETX. Damn good burger and onion rings. Place used to be called Dippity's Donuts but I don't think I ever had a donut from there. It's closed now sadly. It was in Lumberton. Edited May 9, 20223 yr by Hmbre97
May 9, 20223 yr I can't vouch for it personally but my parents recently went to Weir Country Store and said they had really good burgers and bbq. It's inside a Diamond Shamrock gas station.

May 9, 20223 yr On a Williamson County jag -- Major's Burgers in Liberty Hill is very old school. Never frozen meat. Classic menu. The family apparently has some other stores in Washington state.
May 9, 20223 yr If we are going general store mode in this thread, I'll add Kendalia General store on 473, just west off 281. Where else but a Texas general store can you get a fn chainsaw and a reasonable burger under the same roof. https://www.yelp.com/biz/kendalia-general-store-kendalia
