It’s outrageous there when the US Open isn’t being played next door to Beverly Hills. It’s gonna be expensive or you’re gonna spend some time in a car every day. What’s your hopeful budget per day? I know I’m not going to find anything “close”. The traffic/commute information that has been posted is helpful though. Looking at under $700/night. We’ll figure something out. Probably spend some time in traffic.

December 29, 20222 yr Is there a Texas game watching spot in LA? I'll be there tomorrow night during the Alamo Bowl and the LA Texas Exes page is a ghost town.

The areas directly south of the LACC (i.e., Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park, Beverlywood, etc.) are good neighborhoods, so chances are great that anything you might find on VRBO or Airbnb in those areas would be nice. I suspect, however, that you won't find much in those neighborhoods on VRBO or Airbnb. I personally wouldn't be inclined to go too far south of I-10 because (depending on the particular area) things can start getting sketchy plus distance. Culver City might have some possibilities, and they'll be cheaper than the area immediately around the LACC.

Upgrade your tickets to get at least a limited amount of fast entry admissions for the rides, because the lines can get long, though mid-week in the off-season it might not be that bad. The studio tour is pretty cool, but we did the Warner Bros. tour the following day which we thought was much better. Like any other amusement park, it’s overpriced mediocre amusement park food. Your best bet for food options might be the restaurant in Harry Potter World.

January 5, 20241 yr Author I thought Lucky Boy was very meh. Perhaps it's just that a SoCal breakfast burrito is never going to hold a candle to a good ATX breakfast taco. But regardless, it was underseasoned, over-potatoed, and the salsa wasn't good. We went to brunch at The Butcher, the Baker, and the Cappuccino Maker on Sunset, and it was fantastic. Highly recommend. Also recommend Katana on Sunset. That was a fun place for dinner.

February 25Feb 25 Man, the CA desert is BEAUTIFUL, especially this time of year. I highly recommend the Palm Springs thing. And as always, for kids that age, Whale Watching (likely dolphin watching).
February 25Feb 25 Look into the Academy museum and the Peterson Automotive Museum. You can do both and then have lunch at the Original Farmer's Market nearby. Also, great time of the year to visit the Huntington Gardens and Library. Advanced ticket required.

If you're staying near Disneyland, that means you'll be down in Orange County, which is a bit of a schlep from Los Angeles proper and its environs. Unless you've really got your heart set on seeing Los Angeles and the areas immediately around it, my recommendation would be to spend most of your time at Disneyland and places in OC that are closer to your hotel. Otherwise, you'll be spending too much time on the freeways in traffic crawling up to LA and then back again to OC. You can carve out a day for going up to LA and checking out some of the sights up there, but if your plan is to make multiple trips back and forth between OC and LA, you're going to be spending a lot of time in the car sitting on freeways. Other posters have mentioned some good ideas for when you're in the LA area. I'm not as familiar with OC as I am with Los Angeles simply because I don't spend much time down there. That said . . . You're already hitting one amusement park (Disney), so you may not want to bother with another one, but FWIW my kid liked the rides at Knott's Berry Farm better than the ones at Disneyland when he was around the same age as your kids. KBF is down in Orange County. The lines tend to be shorter at KBF, too. You'll be near some good beaches, which are always a fun time for kids. Though it's been a long time since I hit an OC beach, Balboa peninsula (Newport) and Huntington Beach were fun back in the day, and I assume they still are. Corona del Mar State Beach and Laguna Beach are supposed to be good as well. If the weather cooperates, do a beach day, rent some bikes and/or boogie boards, etc. The kids will have a blast. There's the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary in Long Beach, which is closer to where you'll be staying than LA, Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc.
February 25Feb 25 Check the Disney thread. Took the family over the summer and @mdmost set me straight on DL and sightseeing stuff in that thread.
February 27Feb 27 I like the beaches in SoCal. I think downtown LA has some good spots. There was a market I went to that has a lot of places to eat which was cool. The name of it eludes me at the moment. I also used to have a friend that lived in a cool neighborhood in Inglewood before he moved back to the east coast. I actually really liked that area. People were really friendly in that neighborhood.

Underrated but definitely not Disney/Universal Aquarium of the Pacific is great also just grab tickets online and reserve your time if on the weekend, the walkup line really fucking sucks Beach day never fails and you can't go wrong down in OC area, I spent last weekend at Venice beach with some friends and it was better than I remember and definitely better than Santa Monica Food just tons of options, I have been on a little Tokyo kick lately but driving up from OC at certain times would probably suck but if you are hitting la brea or anything LA proper it would be easy to do. LA Zoo seemed a little weak imo but not expensive Hiking is always solid especially if the kiddo is into it, tons of options around
March 1Mar 1 perhaps I repeat myself, but in downtown L.A., "Angel's Flight Railway" is fucking cool. https://www.angelsflight.org/
