Not a big fan of teams being in the same standings without having to play each other during the regular season, but I suppose this is a good thought from the ACC:

"moving to a 3-5-5 scheduling format: three permanent rivals for each team, and then rotating through the remaining 10 league teams -- five one year, five the next"

It's also terrible to be in the same conference but only play a fellow member once in a while so kinda torn which is better.

Then last, it's crappy for a few conferences to do it one way (no divisions) and the other conferences to do it another way (yes divisions).

Wonder what the reaction will be if/when some conference with multiple potential-playoff teams doesn’t actually put the top two together in a championship game so as to prevent either of them from taking another loss.

Both teams will sit at home while the SEC enjoys maximum CFP representation. Then the conference in question will re-add the CCG.

See: TCU and BU

maybe the SEC championship will consist only of current non-playoff eligible teams , that way no losses for playoff teams and maybe one on the cusp gets a win it needs

Yes. This is the extreme example of what my question was about.

Will be funny if that happens bc the dumbass NCAA forgot to include a requirement that if you don't have divisions, it's the top 2 winning % teams who have to be in the title game and not "whoever the fuck we decide to protect our playoff hopes"
