Gib Dawson, all SWC back 51 and 52

dawson_gib_080405_300.jpg?preset=large.s

1952 UT vs Arkansas game, starting at around 1:45. It's basically the Gib Dawson show. He ran all over Arkansas that day. 3 TDs in the first half alone. As Kern Tips, the Humble Oil narrator states, Gib Dawson was wearing #44 that day instead of his usual #47.

Here's a super rare colorized photo I found. Gib Dawson leads the team onto the field for the 1953 Cotton Bowl vs. Tennessee. In the first televised Cotton Bowl, he scored a second quarter touchdown on a 9 yard run in a 16-0 shutout.
In 1951 he became the only Texas player ever to lead the Longhorns in five different offensive categories in the same season. He was twice all-conference and a 1984 inductee in the Longhorn Hall of Honor.

Roosevelt Leaks

Position: Running Back
Years: 1972-1974
Place of Birth: Brenham, TX
Date of Birth: Jan 31, 1953
Jersey Number: 46
Height: 5-11
Weight: 220
High School: Brenham, TX (Brenham HS)

The first African American Texas Longhorns player to earn All-America honors, Roosevelt Leaks powered his way for 2,923 yards and 26 touchdowns in just three seasons. A consensus All-America selection in 1973, Leaks finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. His bid for three consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons was derailed when he suffered a serious knee injury in his senior season. Leaks recovered to play nine seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Colts (1975-79) and Buffalo Bills (1980-83). Today, Leaks hosts an annual charity golf tournament for children in East Austin, Texas. In 2003, he became the first recipient of the Living Legends Award presented by the Ministry of Challenge.

LTXfan or Longboard Horn,

Did Mical Padgett wear 45 his Fr or Soph years? I played ball with him growing up. He was a great athlete from our local area. We’re talking late 80s-early 90s, David McWilliams era.

Hook’em!

Hook’em!

Here's what I found on Mical Padgett

  • Wore #52 in 1987
  • #52 in 1988
  • #52 in 1989
  • #52 in 1990
  • #52 in 1991

Bo Robinson wore #45 during several of those years.

Quote:  "Former Texas defensive end Bo Robinson, right, played for Texas from 1989-1992 and was an all-Southwest Conference player."
