History tells us that the 2nd amendment has to be frequently tested by the blood of our children.

Scoreboard: 2nd Amendment 5,000 - Children 0.

We should all be ashamed.

You beat The Onion to the punch for today's shooting - but a quick check did reveal this gem that I hadn't seen ... the Texas "Line in the Sandbox" law was a nice touch.

Until we find out if the shooter used mags or clips, we just can't be sure, and shouldn't rush to judgment.  Thoughts and prayers are the only things that we should be doing.

Those poor kids.  Dammit.

#13313

Whatever.  Meh.

This is what we've chosen, this is how we want things to be.  Honestly, if you have even the tiniest desire to see things get better.....you need to be rooting for them to get much, much, worse.  Like, incomprehensibly worse.  Like, massacres of 50 kids a day in schools, every day.

We have demonstrated that we have a very, very high pain threshold.  We don't even flinch at shit like Sandy Hook or Uvalde.  The only thing that MIGHT get our attention is a Sandy Hook and Uvalde every single day.   Things are going to have to get much, much, much worse before they have a prayer of getting better.

So, that means rooting for more pain, death, and suffering.  If any of you see another path forward, I'm all ears, but it sure seems like "we the people" have spoken clearly on this point.

It won’t matter so long as we remain a country wherein guns are valued more than people.

Oh wow, slorch and I agree on something. I definitely think we should prosecute all the Republican politicians who took dark money from the Russian-backed NRA and refused to even consider common-sense gun laws.

This article says 3 deceased.  Discusses correction from previous 5 deceased.  which is better news, I guess.  Just awful anyway.  fuck.

Hey as long as none of the deceased are of the Executive Class, then there's absolutely nothing we can do about it.

We are what we are.  And we chose to be this way.  As a society, we really should stop complaining about "hey, this society continues to function exactly like we have chosen for it to function!"  It's just pathetic.  We're getting what we want, and what we consistently choose.  Complaining about getting exactly what you chose is stupid.

Speaking as a dad of two little ones, seeing a sandy hook once PER WEEK would be enough to just keep my kids home indefinitely.  I imagine millions of parents would do the same, work be damned.... which would effectively grind the economy to a halt.  And then maybe the oligarchs who don't give a shit about guns would pressure our elected officials to tell the pseudo-oligarchs who only care about guns to fuck off and pass gun control legislation.

So in general I agree with you, but I think the threshold we need to reach is not as far off from present reality.

But, I've been assured that nothing like this could happen at a private christian school unless the shooter is an outsider.  No good christian kid would do such a thing.  Must be fake news.

Bingo.  If the byproduct of school shootings is to end school.....then that's a happy bonus for the folks we've decided to put in charge.

The Second Amendment. That's why.

The Second Amendment. That's why.

Which is, post-Bruen, the most sacrosanct, powerful element of the entire constitution.  It's a super-Amendment, because it simultaneously 1) locks in all laws as of 1790 as the only regulations that can exist, and 2) empowers SCOTUS to ignore even those 1790 era laws that they don't want to acknowledge.  It may as well be re-written to "all the guns, for all people, at all times, with no limitations."  Because that's functionally what it means post-Bruen.  Remember, when the other SCOTUS justices in subsequent opinions said "well....maybe it doesn't go THAT far," the author, the brilliant Clarence Thomas, said "the fuck it doesn't!"

I just don’t get these crazy people:

Alabama Republican Congressman Barry Moore has put forward a bill making the AR-15 assault rifle the “national gun” of the US.

Mr Moore visited a gun shop in Troy in the southern part of the state on Tuesday, revealing the legislation.

“The anti-Second Amendment group won’t stop until they take away all your firearms,” he claimed in a statement after announcing the proposed law at Family Firearms, according to AL.com. “One rule to remember: any government that would take away one right would take away them all.”

“The Second Amendment is as American a right as freedom of speech, religion, and the press,” he added. “Second Amendment rights are worth protecting and must not be infringed, and we must send a message that we will meet every attack on any of our constitutional rights.”

Congressional records show that the full text of the bill hasn’t been provided, but the law would “declare an AR-15 style rifle chambered in a .223 Remington round or a 5.56x45mm NATO round to be the National Gun of the United States

I have it on excellent authority that almost every Moore from Alabama is a feckless shithead.

They were almost clear. They almost made it to Christmas break where they would've been safe. Reminds me of Uvalde. Those kids almost made it to summer break. Instead they died because we worship at the altar of the 2nd Amendment.

Look at these fucking FAFO schmucks:

Abundant Life Christian School officials asked for prayers on Facebook.

“Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family.”

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is what they wanted. This is the inevitable desired outcome of the policies they voted for. If anything, they should be offering thanks that their gun-totin' prayers were answered. Praise the lord and pass the ammo.

It's a day to rejoice.

Yep.  Any day that you get exactly what you've asked for, over and over and over, should be a day of celebration, not mourning.

This is America, functioning EXACTLY as they want it to, and exactly as they've worked so hard for.  We should be dancing in the streets, not being sad.

So, when the big guy lets people be gunned down at a Christian school, do we skip the thoughts and prayers?  Or are they still super effective for next time?

This reminds me of a story a hispanic GF I had at UTin the 80s (no pics) told me about one of her friends back in west Texas. Long story short, her also-hispanic friend got pregnant late in her junior year of high school. Her dad's response was to yank her outta school, since that's where she met the kid who knocked her up. She said it happened all the time out there.
