But that’s the whole beauty of Conmebol, you have to play everyone and home field advantage exists. When Ecuador hosts Brazil, they play in Quito. When they host Bolivia, they play in Guayaquil. Colombia will host in Barranquilla when it suits them and Bogota, when it doesn’t. The pitches aren’t perfect. There are green colored rocks and the occasional puddle. This is World Cup qualifying and you were out shot 23-10. The penalty was soft at best, but this was just complete lack of “ganas”. The BFF really has turned into the biggest bitches imaginable over the last 40 years. They are getting worse than the English.

La Paz is just in the canyon below El Alto. El Alto used to be smaller and less metropolitan/affluent. It’s blown up over the past 30 years and is bigger than La Paz.

September 26Sep 26 “As you probably know, we’re going into Memphis and we’re going into some other cities. Very soon we’re going into Chicago. It will be safe for the World Cup. If I think it isn’t safe, we’ll move into a different city, absolutely. It’s actually a very fair question. If I think it’s not safe, we’re going to move it out of that city.” “So if any city we think is going to be even a little bit dangerous for the World Cup, or for the [2028] Olympics, you know where they have Olympic overthrow. But for the World Cup in particular, because they’re playing in so many cities, we won’t allow it. We’ll move it around a little bit. But I hope that’s not going to happen.” Trump interspersed his comments with updates on the crime situation in Chicago and Washington, D.C. His remarks followed a question from a reporter about “immigration, crime and the World Cup” and about cities pushing back from his immigration and deportation policies and crime initiatives and whether World Cup games could move from cities like San Francisco and Seattle if they didn’t cooperate with his crime policy. “Well, that’s an interesting [question],” said Trump, “I guess. But we’re going to make sure they’re safe. They’re run by radical left lunatics who don’t know what they’re doing.”
October 1Oct 1 So did anyone get a visa presale time slot? Did this even happen? I don’t know anyone who got a code. Fuck FIFA and fuck Trump too.

Haven't gotten anything yet. Just asked my coworker and he also said he hasn't heard. My suspicion is that ticket brokers found a way around the "one entry per household" thing and flooded out average people. There's a lot of money to be made here. Edited October 1Oct 1 by tokamak
October 1Oct 1 So apparently a few people got emails Monday saying they could buy today (Wednesday). A few more people got emails today saying they can buy Friday. They're going to keep giving a few people at a time 48 hours' notice until all 1 million tickets for this phase are sold. No rejections emails until the phase ends in late October. Prices are predictably steep. Random group game at Met Life on 6/17: U.S. group opener at SoFi: Random Round of 16 game in Philly on 7/4: Final: Varies by stadium, but generally speaking, Category 1 is the lower bowl + best of the 2nd level. You don't have any say in where your seat is within a category. Cat 2 is like crappy 2nd level and primo 3rd level. Cat 3 is crappy 3rd level. Cat 4 is hilariously small in the two stadium diagrams The Athletic has, might as well forget it.
October 2Oct 2 I’m fairly certain that I won’t go to a game. Last World Cup I flew to Buenos Aires to watch the final with friends and stayed for a week. I flew down on frequent flyer miles, I took public transportation while in BA, attended a few gatherings/asados in homes, was treated to lunch by a couple of brothers I’m buddies with when I arrived, stayed in the extra bedroom of one of the brothers’ flat, ate at another former business partner’s/friend’s restaurant, and ultimately had plenty of pesos remaining to spend in Duty Free after changing only US$200 at the street rate on my first day. I’m not wasting US$500 to $1,500 just to attend one game. I’ve been to World Cup qualifiers in Argentina, I know what a big game atmosphere is like. FIFA sucks. Edited October 2Oct 2 by Napoleon

October 15Oct 15 Just got my official no dice email for the Visa presale. General presale lottery starts October 27.
October 15Oct 15 imagine the party in the usa if donald trump died during the world cup. like if he just had a heart attack and died during the group stage. all of the host cities would become carnival, it would be amazing.
October 15Oct 15 Same, but bah, I've been rejected from better places than this (yeah, I mean you Augusta National).
October 17Oct 17 Shocking how stupid certain people are. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/46612518/fifa-us-government-host-city-safety-2026-world-cup-donald-trump Worth mentioning considering how stupid some decision makers are, but… ”San Francisco’s games” are in fucking San Jose-ish California. (Santa Clara, but like Highland Park not being Dallas.) That’s basically like saying that Austin isn’t a safe city, so games schedule New Braunfels are going to need to be moved. FIFA and this country have just gone full stupid.

FIFA and this country have just gone full stupid. The "Boston" games are being played in Foxboro You are literally closer to another STATE (Rhode Island - 8 miles) than Boston (20 Miles) at that stadium. Quote FIFA and this country have just gone full stupid. This country sure. But against we said it for the Epsteinth time, this has nothing to do with security or soccer, but keeping something out of the news. FIFA - I still think they might talk stuff, but in the end they are not going to cede power to anyone. They haven't gotten to the place they are today without tightly controlling every aspect of soccer they can. They don't need world leaders, they are a dime a dozen and come and go like the wind. FIFA is eternal. The Guardian had a piece up on this - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/oct/15/trump-world-cup-threats-explained TL;DR - Trump - no direct power, can pressure FIFA FIFA - could pull games BUT - the logistical nightmare would be hard to make a move work. Especially if it comes after the draw on 5 December. Edited October 17Oct 17 by Captain Ron
October 28Oct 28 Gulp Oh, yeah. I read about that. It was in the last issue of NO FUCKING WAY FUCK THAT SHIT MONTHLY.
October 28Oct 28 11 hours ago, Buzzrock said: Gulp How does this make any sense? 1. Logistics - getting into the stadium is going to be a nightmare. Getting 45,000 people to a stadium already takes a long time and that's bringing people from all around. Now you are adding the need to get that group of people UP 75 stories along with the rest of the logistical nightmare. Good luck. 2. Wind - this is a known issue at upper floors of buildings. Let's ignore the building issues (sway and so many people at that altitude), but affect on the games played in this building? I have a feeling that wind would make the game really hard to play at that kind of altitude.

November 11Nov 11 I won a ticket slot to buy tickets tomorrow. Did anybody do this in the last round? Curious on what to expect when I'm able to login.

November 18Nov 18 I got in, my window started yesterday. I got 4x cat 2 tickets to a round of 32 game at Jerry World. Was in the ‘waiting room’ for about an hour. Pretty easy once I got in. A fair amount of options were already sold out. Prices had definitely gone up from what was advertised.
November 19Nov 19 Just noticed that Costa Rica have failed to qualify. Pretty surprising considering the expanded format. Very disappointing for Los Ticos.
