Congrats again, Pitt. You guys are on a roll. After the past couple of seasons, it's got to feel good.

Last season was so Godawful. So utterly terrible. We had a game last season, a 9 p.m. game on a Wednesday night, against Wake Forest. There were fewer than 1,000 people in the building. It was the penultimate home game of the season. We counted 12 people, including our crew, in our section. After we went 0-19 against ACC teams last year this is starting to resemble Pitt Hoops that Ben Howland and Jamie Dixon helped build. Now we need some big guys.

The 2A will be all up in Pitt's ass in a year or two.

'Cuse loves the kids... (woo woo wo wooh)

I have it on a local affiliate MY TV, they carry a lot of ACC games up here in Upstate NY.

Hog fans have to be highly disappointed with Anderson, clearly not the 2nd coming of Strollin’ Nolan, currently getting his ass handed to him by the Vols.

21-ranked Cougar High takes on Southern Money tonight at Moody at 8.

Shelled out $20 each for two 2nd row seats. Gotta love Young Alumni night.

Told my date I will try to not get too rowdy. That was a lie.

I'll try and get some good pics (of the game, not the date you heathens)

The youngest Ball brother, LaMelo Ball, returned to the American high school scene as a longshot to ever play a college game. Those slim hopes just got worse on Tuesday.

According to a report from Forbes, LaMelo’s high school team, SPIRE Institute (Ohio), was slated to participate in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., this week but dropped out when an “outside consultant” demanded a $10,000 appearance fee for LaMelo.

LaMelo had participated in the Hoophall West in Arizona last month in front of a capacity crowd. But according to Procino, nobody requested a fee for LaMelo’s appearance in that event.

Forbes went on to report that SPIRE believed that the consultant was LaVar Ball’s business partner and Big Baller Brand manager Alan Foster. For The Win reached out to Foster for comment, but did not receive a response. He also did not respond to Forbes’ attempts at reaching him.

LaMelo already has an expansive list of issues jeopardizing his NCAA eligibility. He signed with an agent. He played professional basketball overseas. He played professionally in the start-up JBA league. He has his own signature shoe and promotes Big Baller Brand on social media.

The Ball family — or their representatives — personally charging money for LaMelo to appear in high school tournaments would be another violation of NCAA guidelines. It’s why basketball programs have steered clear of LaMelo despite his legitimate five-star talent.

Upon dropping out of the Hoophall, SPIRE has scheduled to play in the The Grind Session in Kentucky.

Via Forbes:

But when Greg Procino, who organizes the games at Hoophall Classic, received a request for an appearance fee in exchange for having Ball and SPIRE play at the event, Procino balked and SPIRE opted to go elsewhere. Procino said no one from the school or basketball program made the request, but at that it came from an outside “consultant.” Procino said this was the first such request he has received in 10 years of organizing games at the event.

“The school/program did not request money,” Procino wrote in an email. “An outside ‘consultant’ who requested the change in terms did have certain financial requests. We did not pay them to participate and SPIRE decided not to honor the original agreement for Hoophall Classic. We replaced SPIRE with The Patrick School after the final conversation took place. Games are being cancelled with Spire unless the terms are acceptable to the outside consultant.”

No offense, but we're not interested in seeing pics of your boyfriend.

I thought it was good for a chuckle. Plus, there is a bit of talk in there about what he can expect if he tries to go play college ball.

Zion's main issue is his lack of height. Athleticism and pure strength are off the charts but he may have some problems against taller guys in the NBA.

Chuck wasn't that tall either I guess

I think Zion's main issue is his long term viability. What will he look like at even 27 or 28? Will his body be able to maintain? Look at Draymond for a comp. His body is already breaking down and he is only 28.

Cougar High kicked our ass but the seats were fun

Former Texas assistant Frank Haith got tossed tonight along with Danny Hurley by an overzealous referee crew tonight. From what they showed the entire situation was never all that serious to begin with. Glad that Hurley called for action from the league office.

Interesting.  Wonder when this will hit teams in the NCAAT if it ever will.

Don’t remember all about the Irving injury, wonder if that was the case when he was at Duke?  Shut it down in fear of further Draft damage.

I said much the same in the Zion thread. He has nothing to prove now. Stop. Playing one season for Duke only makes Coach K, and Duke, wealthier.

That's a strange situation. That's the second kid to leave this season, right?

Well, speaking of people who are actually still playing despite being draft prospects, I've been a bit spacey lately, but have we talked about Ja Morant? He's probably the second most exciting player in CBB, and I wouldn't argue if you said you'd rather watch him than Zion. That kid is amazing.

The Howard kid from Marquette has been on fire this season.

what a schedule of games today. Really looking forward to Auburn and Kentucky, and obviously the big one, the possible title preview, Duke and UVA.

Michigan v. Wiscy is closer than I expected. Blue up 1 with 10 to play.

  • Author

Wisconsin is the Big 10's poor man's version of UVA. They're gonna muck it up for everybody and get you out of your rhythm. tough to beat on the road.

Wiscy up 3 with 59.9 to go.

That was a clinic in how not to come back. Awful situational basketball.

with Tre Jones hurt i'm inclined to pick UVA tonight. a team full of freshmen without their floor leader could have a tough time dealing with the pace of the game and having to execute over and over. should be a good one.

Alabama's John Petty is putting on a show against Tennessee. Everything he's throwing up is hitting nothing but net. Vols were up 12 at the half, Bama came out 13-0 to start the 2H and it's been close ever since. Petty has been unconscious.

Grant Williams is a uniquely great basketball player.

  • Author

I don't know about that call. Bama has been looking for that call all day, and they've actually gotten it a few times. Was there contact? Yes. But Williams was moving side to side, not through the defender. For him to fall back like that seems flop-ish.

  • Author

i didn't think he traveled live but you could see he did on the replay.

Awful second half for Tennessee but they hold on. Williams with the play of the day with that block.

Auburn heating up from 3...

And Herro answers back.

Upset of the day is ESPN not switching from the UK/Aurburn game to the start of the UVa/Duke game.
