We took our 9 yr old grandson to see the movie, hot damn those recliners are comfy,  he sat there and laughed when someone was punched in the face 😳 and when that one character's head started to slide down the table, he said.."well that's just gross"   I laughed 😅

the special effects are cheesy because of the film's age, but the tension and paranoia it builds are still top notch and hold up well today.

Still my all time favorite scary movie. I saw it on a middle school soccer trip and it scared the absolute bejeezus out of me.

I had high hopes for the prequel but it was just ok. Somehow the modern effects made it worse.

We shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we Wang?

You're thinking of The Thing (2011). The Thing (1982) is unimpeachable in every way, shape, and form and anyone who disagrees with me is probably an alien.

Good practical effects are always better than CGI, IMO.

The scene where they are tied to the bench while they test their blood is amazing and still makes me poop a little.

Absolutely.

I still remember my last final exam as a freshman. Getting a six pack on the way home, smoking a bowl and The Thing was on cable.  It was a good day

Yes, fantastic movie. 50's sci-fi that isn't remotely as scary as the 1982 movie.

A lot of fun to watch, good characters, entertaining. Very similar to another '50s flick, Them.

Masterclass in fucked up suspense.

An alltimer

Is the 82 movie where you see the skin pull away from the spine, correct? If it is, I have no memory from the film except that fucked up scene.

Good Lord.  You took a 9 year old?  You trying to raise a psychopath?

She's trying to raise a fan of good filmmaking and she's doing a damn fine job of it.

Only about 1000 times. It was one of the freakier sci fi movies when I was a kid. I was a Kenneth Tobey fan because of Whirlybirds.

Spoiler

James Arness is The Thing

the fade outs used to annoy the hell out of me. Carpenter's directing style is an acquired taste.

Good flick.
