Since it’s that time of year, the bass player on Christmas Wrapping kills it.

By now, all you motherfuckers should finally realize that Paul is the greatest ever.

And, Flea's work on "You outta know" was stellar

Which Paul? The dead one, or his replacement?

not complicated or anything.. but i love the chunky bass sound of the Pixies.. not Kim Deal here in this one, but mesmerizing

the bowed bass in Lucifer Sam.. so slinky.

i'm going to put aside James Jameson for this...he dominates the thread if included.

time for the patented sidis peter gabriel/tony levin contribution but the mixolydian riff on sledgehammer is the engine.

larry klein on mercy street is just as good.

throwing in a wrench since it is just "basslines," not just electric bass.

second movement of beethoven's 7th symphony.  bass line is actually the melody.  and it is extraordinary.

the bass lines on all of chopin's nocturnes are rather stunning.

the bass lines bach wrote in the well tempered series are rather remarkable and set the stage for harmony for the rest of time.

amazing interview with tony levin that @Goredho and @jimmyjazz will certainly appreciate as fans of king crimson and pg.

and for the p.g. fans, at 56 mins in, he confirms that they did a bunch of track work for a new album.  so the rumors appear to be true.

People hear The Power Station and usually think of Tony Thompson murdering his drum set but don’t forget about these guys

A) who the hell still hears and thinks about The Power Station? You apparently. +1 for that. They were awesome.

B) I have always thought John Taylor laid down that funky bass part. I’m crushed.

C) we used to play that tune in my hs band. We were called 40 Below. 1986. That lead was always fun to play.

D) I saw Duran Duran at the Hard Rock in Vegas in about 2000. They played that tune. Andy Taylor had one of the the best sounding guitar tones I’ve ever heard at that show. Mesa Dual Recto stack. Was mildly surprised by that.

that song came on XM 1st Wave the other day and I remember thinking isn’t this more of a classic rock song vs 80s alternative, and also that bass lines slaps. And then proceeded to go down the usual YouTube rabbit hole. There’s a bunch more studio footage floating around.

Huh.  I had no idea John Taylor didn't play that entire bass part.  I think Bernard Edwards was his teacher, I guess he deferred to Bernard and brought him in for the session.  Cool.

The closing bass riff on son of a preacher man has to be a top 10. You all are slipping hard.

Was that Duck Dunn?

My favorite bass line if all time and yes that is Keith Richards on the bass.

Greg Ridley in 30 Days in the Hole is almost untouched.

So listening to some 80s station and Footloose comes on. Somehow all I hear is the bassline and I thought it worthy of this thread. This is just some dudes cover but it’s still slick.

Speaking of Tony Levin and Sledgehammer, nice little nugget courtesy of Rick Beato

I'm sorry but I love the bass on Woof especially with Blue DeTiger sitting in...

Was just thinking you can't hear it very well on this YouTube so grab it on Spotify and listen to the song. By the way they kick ass live.

I've been spinning Out Come the Wolves this weekend, I forgot a) how good Matt freeman is, and b) Journey to the End of the East Bay has a wicked bass line.

I never realized how much the bass contributed to the sound of Maggie May until I listened to some bass covers.  I love all the fills at the end of each line.  I also never knew Ronnie Wood played bass on it.
