July 9, 20223 yr Holy shit, the obscure Little River Band reference! Always loved that band. I'm not sure I've ever heard that tune. Very CSN.

July 10, 20223 yr This is the only instrumental banned from the radio. It is the way marker of where Rock & Roll went so it counts as THE guitar driven sound. Without this, you get none of the above.

July 11, 20223 yr I started reading this thread wondering when the ZZ songs were gonna pop up. Got Me Under Pressure is another that came to mind.
July 19, 20223 yr LOL. Every time I hear "Tush" I think "that's my favorite ZZ Top tune". Then I hear "La Grange" and I think "that's my favorite ZZ Top tune". It's an impossible puzzle to solve. For me the “guitar driven” criteria for ZZ Top is most solidly met with this one. But like you said [emoji2369]

July 19, 20223 yr This is a public service announcement. With guitar! Spoiler Not a serious contender.

The Zep part you're referencing is the bass line, and beyond that, Heart released "Barracuda" merely one year after "Achilles Last Stand". Could there have been some influence? Sure. Did Heart write a far better song? Yep.

July 21, 20223 yr Unless I missed it, I can't believe this guy hasn't been mentioned. Foxy Lady is another one.
July 21, 20223 yr How about a song driven by the bass guitar? Johnny Marr's greatness combined with a relentless bass🔥...

By that rationale every rock song from the 80s on sounds like a rock song from the 50s to 70s. And almost every one of those sounds like a blues song that came before it. Besides, The Rover is a mediocre at best Zeppelin song. Satch's is a guitar masterpiece of wah and legato.
