Behind errors and pitching wins, the sac fly is the baseball stat I'd most like to get rid of.   First, there's zero evidence that SFs are the result of skill/attempt -- historical fly ball rates

My first guess was Soriano, 696 AB....#1 bullshit

Edited by Scraps

After reading the hint (one of them is obviously from that year but no way in hell I will get it) -  Jimmy Rollins

Ichiro (which SS said)

way out in left field guess ---Juan Pierre

Oh you motherfucker....Pierre 699 AB.....new #1 bullshit

Rollins is #1 all-time with 716.

Ichiro is also right

Yeah I am sure Wilson is one because he had a record breaker card in 1981 for AB's in a season.

Yeah, Willie Wilson is the 1980 one.  One more.

Omar Moreno or Juan Pierre, who are the same person anyways.

Juan Pierre

Womp womp....welcome to the losers lounge with me on that one with 699 lol

never would have guessed the last guy but he is similar vintage to Wilson as far as when he played.

we've posted about him in this thread before

Besides Ichiro's 704 in 2004, he had 8 other seasons of >675 ABs.  Guess you can't afford to mess around if you're going to come over at 27 and still get to 3000 hits.

Ernie Banks makes his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs.  He became the club's first black player.

The first organized baseball team is formed on this day in 1845 named the New York Knickerbockers.

On this day in 1984 Sparky Anderson became the first manager to win 100 games in both divisions.

Something I came across because of Immaculate grid.

Who is the only member of the 500 HR club who never hit 40 or more in a season?

Eddie Murray was my first thought.

Mel Ott would be my second thought

Murray is right.  His high was 33

Murray is right.  His high was 33
I looked up Ott just to see also and he only had 1 year over 40

When was the last time the two league MVPs played in the World Series?

2012, Cabrera vs Posey. If Jeter doesn’t break his ankle in the ALCS Cabrera never makes it that far though

Lulz, you couldn't stand being right for once and just leaving it at that?

The Tigers just fucking wrecked the Yankees in that series.

Iirc Eduardo Nunez had a 9th inning homer in game 4 and I was convinced he was going to be a breakout star in 2013. The other Yankee fan poster (morley man?) told me I was stupid

You're not too far off.

I cheated and looked it up via Google Image.  I only recognized Ruth, Mack and Wagner before doing so.

1939, third

front row: Collins, Ruth, Mack, Cy

back: Wagner, Alexander, Speaker, Lajoie, Sisler, Johnson

I don't know where Ty Cobb was, but a certain line from Field of Dreams comes to mind.

Mookie, Teoscar and Profar off the top of my head

Well damn.

Rooker was almost a guess, but wasn't sure he played OF enough....and also wasn't sure if he is 30 or not

Ok just looked Rooker age up. He didn't turn 30 til November so hopefully its not him lol

Surprised the guy played enough to get over 3 WAR
