July 15, 20223 yr and have a few tech questions. We had a 25x25 game room...(essentially a walk-out basement for lack of a better description). The main house is on the upper level, and there's a circular staircase that goes down to the lower level. At the landing is two doors; one into my home office, and the other, into the former game room. The lower level has it's own driveway (I'm on two acres) and it's own entrance. I may have a beer gut and a small cock, but I'm good with tools and with my hands. I put in a kitchenette, a totally tits bathroom, and added a couple of windows. Paint, baseboard, crown molding, etc. It's pretty fucking nice. The GF furnished it. Queen bed, 55" TV (which I hung), loveseat, dining table, etc. All the linens and bullshit. We originally intended to do the travelling nurse thing, because we are within 5 miles of two bigass hospitals, but, after looking at airbnb,I almost sharted. Somebody up the street is getting $200 a night for a fucking 5th wheel parked in their driveway, my studio is bigger and nicer than ANY RV. So, here are the questions: I have a google mesh system and I've set up a guest network. Is there any risk there? I have a house full of alexa products. Is it safe to leave one down there for guests to use? Should I have other tech concerns that I'm too dumb to think about?
July 15, 20223 yr Author Also, is it safe to let renters use my netflix, amazon, etc? Can I set up special profiles that won't be able to see my profile, which is full of midget porn and gay blowbangs?

Anyone staying at your place will have their own login to watch what they want to watch. Just make sure all of the standard streaming apps (YoutubeTV, Hulu, Apple, etc) are options on the TV and let them sign themselves in. So, how much is it going to be to spend a night in The House That Cum Built?
July 15, 20223 yr Yes, let them sign into everything themselves. Oh, and include a bottle of Tabasco in case they need to stay hard for hours.
July 15, 20223 yr They are going to use your basement to shoot porn. Your contract should ask for royalty rights.

July 15, 20223 yr Don't worry, you're going to now have the pleasure of hearing your guests defile your basement.
July 15, 20223 yr Guest network.. you're ok. Wouldn't provide Netflix account or such, let them use their own or cast from their phones. I'd be more worried about squatters that won't leave, people that book with fake ID and either steal everything or trash the place, popup meth lab, etc.... your internet isn't a big worry.
July 15, 20223 yr Stayed in Airbnb in San Diego with a couple buddies, tv was locked in some hospitality/parental mode and only had Pluto TV…so we watched hours of The Price Is Right Barker Era channel whenever we stumbled in drunk or stoned. Would recommend. Owner also shoved all her clothes into every conceivable space making drawers/closets useless, left a rotting watermelon on the kitchen counter for us, and I had to awkwardly pick up the key from some drunk uncle in the ghetto after I landed at SAN. Would not recommend (get some kinda passcode or WiFi lock thing).
July 15, 20223 yr Mistake not to go the traveling nurse route. Nurses are fun, especially when they’re away from home. Guaranteed multiple threesomes.

July 16, 20223 yr I'm sure you've already done your due diligence. It can be lucrative but yes, there are horror stories and, yes, you will have the occasional nightmare guest. Have a good lawyer draw up the house rules like a contract. Maybe see if there's some kind of "shitty guest" insurance policy out there too. Also, what happens if someone gets injured on your property? You covered against that possible lawsuit?
July 16, 20223 yr Does anyone here ever rent an AirBNB that's an extra space in an occupied house? That's a non-starter when I'm searching.

My BIL's family are big into bnb and joke about the times they have stayed at places like this where the family dog will wander through or little kids etc as family resides in built out garage while someone stays in their house. I’m thinking of using our rental unit as an airbnb and one of the reasons why is that it can be difficult to kick out deadbeats who just stop paying the rent and don’t leave.

Try "squatting" at the Hilton...or Motel 6 for that matter. The cops will show up and arrest you for "defrauding an innkeeper". Short-term housing has different rules than other rentals.

If in Austin make sure your licensed ($650 fee) and paying your hotel taxes correctly.

July 18, 20223 yr I wouldn't leave an Alexa device over there unless you want a 55 gallon drum of lube and few pairs of edible underwear.
