September 2, 20214 yr You get less upset if you gave in weeks ago and just accepted that we're not making the playoffs, and it's been a silly thought for weeks now. We're one of the worst 3-4 teams in the league, and for the expansion year, overall, I think we get a pass for that. Is anybody really going to bitch if we finish 2nd to last in the table during our expansion year? We get a younger, faster CB, maybe another full/wing back to raise our floor and replace a starter, and we come back next year hopefully mid-table. We still don't have that 10 we're looking for. Maybe Gallagher's the guy, maybe he isn't, but we're putting our hopes on a complete unknown in Djitte as well. This team still has holes and unknowns.
September 2, 20214 yr 1 hour ago, Jerry Callo said: Nor should it. We scored three goals. I haven't gone back an looked, but pretty sure we would have won the majority of the games scoring three goals. All of the sudden we can't defend for shit, but can score goals? Working out of the back can be productive, but does not work with lazy passes or stupid mistakes. FC Dallas is not a good team, but they punked Austin FC at home. Everyone should be upset about that. There’s a possibility that at 5-1, FC Dallas made some subs to give some people experience rather than whatever close out specialists they may have. According to this thread, Austin FC hadn’t given up more than 2 goals this season. (Don’t know if that’s accurate, but it’s been posted I believe.) If that’s the case, then YES, Austin would have won every game this year before this one. That’s almost “1st Place” level from an expansion squad.

Wish I knew the logic that went into the expansion draft, because that’s the biggest bust in terms of missed opportunity this year. - Hoesen (sucks/hurt) - Stroud (not bad) - Scott (playing in USL) - Corona (Houston, WTF?) - Kamal Miller (traded immediately)

I think it's Djitte/Gallagher from here on out unless Hoesen or Big Celery magically get healthy. Definitely a position of need in the squad going forward. Here's what I would like to see vs. Vancouver: Stuver Kolmanic - Besler - Cascante - Lima Ring Pochettino - Pereira Dominguez - Driussi - Fagundez Djitte
September 3, 20214 yr I think with Driussi/Djitte up front and some rest for Diego, the best place for Ring is covering for the slowness of our central defenders rather than contributing to the attack.

September 3, 20214 yr I'm partial to Jimenez over Lima. On the attacking side and playing out of the back, Jimenez has great eye for difficult passes that he executes really well.
September 4, 20214 yr How about Jimenez AND Lima? No Pereira tonight because “Canada” and “paperwork” according to him but still an interesting lineup.
September 4, 20214 yr Stuver Jimenez - Besler - Cascante - Lima Ring - Pochettino Dominguez - Driussi - Fagundez Gallagher Counted to 11 this time.

September 5, 20214 yr F’n Stuver. Manages to make a mIstake every game now. Of course, he’s not alone back there, either.
September 8, 20214 yr Thought y'all would like this tale. I've been driving Uber and Lyft for awhile now. Today I picked up a real old dude and his equally old friends from the Four Seasons condos downtown (destination: Jeffrey's). He got in my passenger seat and asked me if I liked soccer. I kind of grinningly responded, "yeah man I'm wearing a Chelsea hat". He then asked me what I thought of Austin FC. I began by saying (this was all very lighthearted in a familiarly conversational, Cheshire-cat Texan tone) "Well I mean they aren't great so far". He responded with a quip about them "struggling to put it in the back of the net". It quickly turned into us testing each other to see how deep the conversation would go - starting small with comments about a recent game and the new stadium, progressing to talk of Driussi (old guy didn't know his name but knew he was a new Argentinian signing) and how we might look going forward. At one point I said "Yeah if only we could play Portland every week!" which resulted easily in his best laugh of the short car ride. He also mentioned liking our goalie but we both agreed the FC Dallas game wasn't a great outing. After this had gone around and I could tell the small talk was drying up, he very earnestly says to me, "It's so great to have a professional team in this city." Guys: let me tell you something. This man was at least 70 and clearly both very wealthy and very white. He had at least 45 years on me and probably 50. He was either from the city that I am or had lived here for longer than me. And we found a common ground for 5 or 6 minutes over a fucking MLS expansion team in its first year of playing. And he absolutely beamed at both having a professional team here (the MLS didn't make a shit to this guy - this counted for him - and rightfully so) and being able to discuss it with someone who could have been his grandson. Fuck man. I'm going to get sucked into this bullshit, aren't I? Let's all do me a favor - and I'll pitch in too - and not let this thing become an embarrassment. Because that 80 year old good 'ol boy out there fucks with this team just as much as the 28 year old 2nd generation Mexican-American in the supporters section shitfaced off molly and Heineken. September 8, 20214 yr That's beautiful, man. And I think that's the real opportunity that Austin FC has. To pull people together who love this city but don't have a common experience. Had a fairly long talk with one of the Fighting Leslies guys about that a couple months ago. Looking forward to the Houston trip this weekend. Have no expectations for the team, but spending the day with a few hundred crazy Austin people is good for the soul.

September 9, 20214 yr unrelated question---but can you fit a standard college football field (100x53 yards with 2 10-yard endzones) and still have enough room for sidelines for the teams...can you fit that all onto the current pitch of Q2 stadium? I know the dimensions of the actual FC pitch, but there's no real good way to ascertain how much space is left behind the goals/sidelines, etc. Thanks.

September 9, 20214 yr I think 6 yards is about right with both the grass and turf that covers the concrete. So that’s 127 yards end to end. Lot more turf on the sidelines and the pitch is 75 yards wide. I think you might be able to just squeeze it in.

September 12, 20214 yr Bout to walk over from stros game. How we doin?We were tied for the first 51 second.
September 12, 20214 yr First time the Dyanmo have won since May22nd. They were 2 games away from setting the MLS record for longest winless streak.

September 12, 20214 yr Glad I didn't try to watch two ass-kickings at the same time last night. Time to spend some money this off-season.
September 12, 20214 yr Is Wolff's kid any good or is that move a little nepotistic? He’s good. Don’t know if he’s worth the promotion, but in any case….the optics are super shitty.

Dynamo stadium had visible football lines on it. What a shitty performance. This team has nothing right now. Did get to see a fight in the stands and one of the trumpet players got jumped on the streets outside the stadium and has his trumpet stolen.

September 15, 20214 yr I hope to see Djitte get the start up top tonight. I don't know what he offers by way of real opportunities to create goals, but I'd like to see.
September 16, 20214 yr I’ve never seen the stadium this empty 40 minutes before the game. I was worried we were too late to get a good spot in the orange lot but there were only a dozen cars parked. At least I was able to get Valentinas. The line was only 3 people deep.
