November 30, 20232 yr TT, as a program, gets it about the need for a serious NIL program, better than the other IR8. They are also most likely to get good home attendance (and maybe road draws?) than the others. I think they have the best chance to prosper going fwd. I don’t know if anybody thinks that place is a destination for a visiting team, but I will say I was there 10ish years ago when I had a lease in Graham. My previous experience was in the 90s. It’s really nice there now. If you have an apt near the stadium you don’t need a car. Grocery, restaurants, bars, multiple STD testing centers, all in walking distance.
November 30, 20232 yr I don't think the football series was going to resume any time soon anyway, but other sports like basketball or, especially, baseball would have been ripe for non-conf matchups. Those are off the table now.You think so even in baseball? That would be a fun series in March.

Again, if treating Chris Beard like he deserved offended UT's sensibilities, then they grossly miscalculated how such proceedings would be received. WFC if they got their fee-wees hurt? November 30, 20232 yr We will have plenty of better teams to play in all those sports now. I don’t want to play schools out of conference whose season is made by beating us. I’d rather play helmet schools for home and homes.

November 30, 20232 yr UT telling everyone in Texas to fuck off is not what UT's mission is. Fuck that. Athletically and academically. Donations and taxes don't get invested to Ut to "shove everyone's nose in it." We can go play fuck off on the southeast, but we start cold-shouldering everyone in Texas and the dynamics will change. They already are. UT is gonna have a hard time asking for whatever windfall the SEC will deliver, from the school. You'r making a ton, fund your own shit. Believe it or not, the amount of money UT athletics makes is not top of mind for most Texans. It IS with legislators who write checks with taxpayer dollars for UT. UT is a State Institution. Alienating everyone who is not "UT" in Texas, when most people in Texas, high SATs and GPAs included, cannot go to Texas, is exceedingly dumb.

Those are off the table now. A funny thing about SEC history- for the first several decades, there was no insistence on a regular round robin schedule, where every school played every other, eventually. Some schools played five league games, others played six, and this was a league with double digit members. If two schools weren’t getting along, there was nothing to force them to play, and they could still be in good standing within the conference. I wonder if this had the effect of forcing schools to enforce fan behavior. In the SWC, a TAMC student was killed in a brawl at halftime of a game with Baylor, and the schools stopped playing…for two years.
November 30, 20232 yr We're not alienating the rest of the state. We're still playing UTEP and UTSA. We're aiding the UT system in athletics. I'm sure we'll play Rice and maybe Texas State. But why play the shitbags who whined about us and made us their villain? Why give them anything? Why trade a good OOC date for one of them? There is no reason to. More home games for us to go along with good conference matchups. I'm fine with that.

Legislators don't write checks with taxpayer dollars for UT athletics, it is entirely privately funded. And State appropriations only count for 10% of the UT System's budget. And there are nine UT campuses. If you really want to attend a UT System school you can probably get in someplace. Also UT is generally politically correct as fuck. They aren't going to actually "shove everyone's nose in it." That's us talking shit on message boards. But generally do we want to schedule teams that regard us as their archrivals and will be fired up as hell to beat us and also draw few fans and also have little national respect? I don't see the financial, strategic, or even entertainment value. Nobody gives a shit about Texas vs TCU but that would be a very difficult game for us. Why take on a high risk, low reward series of games? Just to make TCU and their smallish fanbase like us? And since when has playing us made any of those schools like us? You think they are going to be grateful and be cheering "hurrah for UT! They scheduled us!" Like fuck they will. Same with Tech or Baylor or Houston. Edited November 30, 20232 yr by Valmy77
November 30, 20232 yr Popular Post The University of Texas had a plan ready to implement to improve the State of Texas for this and future generations by opening a research campus in Houston. Legislators and the University of Houston whined so much due to selfish tribalism that we scrapped it. The idea that we should play nice by scheduling such babies is absurd. There is only one public university system in Texas devoted to being an excellent academic institution and benefiting all citizens of the state. The small-minded idiots associated with the lesser institutions have never played nice with UT despite UT's efforts to play nice. So fuck 'em. Edited November 30, 20232 yr by Huckleberry

December 13, 20232 yr Texas Tech's Tahj Brooks to return for 2024 football season Chris Low, ESPN Senior Writer Dec 11, 2023 Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks, who was fourth among FBS players with 1,443 rushing yards this season, announced Monday on social media that he was returning to school for a fifth season. The 5-10, 230-pound Brooks rushed for more than 100 yards in eight of the Red Raiders' 12 games and just missed in two other games when he finished with more than 90 yards. Brooks has led Texas Tech in rushing each of the past three seasons, but this was his breakout year after rushing for 691 yards in 2022 and 568 yards in 2021. After splitting carries with SaRodorick Thompson in 2022, Brooks emerged as Texas Tech's go-to running back in 2023 and was third in the FBS with 268 carries. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and scored nine touchdowns. His 1,443 yards rank him sixth all time among Texas Tech single-season rushing leaders. Brooks was able to pile up his yards despite opposing defenses loading up the line of scrimmage to stop him. Texas Tech ranks 11th in the Big 12 in passing offense. Brooks led all FBS players with 91 missed tackles forced, according to Pro Football Focus, and was third among Power 5 players with 919 yards after contact. Texas Tech (6-6) will face Cal on Dec. 16 in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl.
