It's a bit mind-warping to watch people in Tech uniforms play defense like that. Your brain doesn't believe what your eyes are seeing. They are fast, attack the ball en masse, maintain excellent gap integrity, and get to the QB quicker than any school in the country so far this year. The interior D-line is solid mass, and the edge rushers are probably the most dangerous combination in college football. The linebackers are seasoned, smart, and hit hard. They look like a top-ten defense based on their front seven alone, and they have a lot of depth in those positions. Their secondary has still not been tested, really, but the pressure from the front seven makes their job a lot easier. The offense is another story, though. The starting QB is the weakest link, mostly due the slowest reads I've ever seen in a senior QB, and I think he'll cost them a couple of games this year. He's not bad at all, he's just not that good either. A pro-style offense that relies less on the QB would likely suit him better. Tech might make the playoffs, but that QB will limit how far they advance. I would be surprised if they make it out of the first round unless the backup gets more playing time and develops into the starter by then. That kid is raw but has a much higher ceiling. ESPN is running a new program on SMU and their return to relevance which also is due solely to now legal "cash infusions."

October 3Oct 3 Games in DFW and H-town both are heavy Tech draws. That's where the fucking jobs are. I think it was CJM saying he expected a 50-50 crowd at UH. It might not be quite that high, but it'll be plenty.

October 3Oct 3 This year will be an interesting test. TT has an incredible history. Since joining the SWC, they have had two seasons of less than four wins (1979 and 1981). They have had two aeasons of more than ten wins (1976 and 2008). They have never won a conference title or even appeared in a CG. They are like a small town west Texas office building- the basement and penthouse are two stories apart. They remind me of what detailed said about Brazil- “it’s the country of tomorrow and it always will be”. Can TT parlay an overwhelming financial advantage in an era where that overcomes all drawbacks into a dominant season? I have my popcorn out, waiting to see how they screw it up.

October 5Oct 5 Texas deserves credit, they are trying to win on the road with average to shitty play by multiple position groups other than QB. Tech just attempts so many gotdam FGs, we need 2 K's.

No seriously, I think we need to know how to spend the most out of any team in college football by all reports, and have a QB that should be starting at Texas State instead of Texas, an awful offensive line, and a defense that couldn't stop a team that could barely move the ball on any of their other P4 opponents. Please, we need to know. You guys have it all figured out.

No, I’ve been roasting TT for being a program that has never done anything. But, you’ve got me- you beat Utah and UH, two programs that have accomplished a fuck lot more than Tech ever has.
October 5Oct 5 Who cares if Tech has done anything or not? And why does it matter. This year - and right now - they are going out and controlling games against reasonably good competition: Utah and Houston. And they are crushing inferior competition. If Sagarin and other computer rankings are to be believed, Utah and Florida are mid-20s. Houston is mid-40s. Tech handled Houston and Utah - on the road. Texas did not. Texas is struggling with teams who have a pulse and struggled with some who do not. This may be despair and over indexing on yesterday’s outcome, but it looks like Tech is in a pretty good place right now, relatively speaking.

October 5Oct 5 I was laughing at the TV broadcast, saying that there were a lot of red shirts in the stands. I mean..it's also the primary color for UH as well. I guess they were working from the vantage point of someone wasn't wearing the Columbia blue, they were a tech fan. I've gone to 2 games there and neither time was UH necessarily enjoying HFA.

At least he's consistent. In that prick's mind, there is an "in-group" that must be protected at all costs, including the use of bad-faith arguments and outright deceit. The motherfucker sees any potential success by those outside his chosen group as a personal affront to his worldview, a carefully constructed hierarchical house of cards propping up his selfish, fragile ego.

October 5Oct 5 10 minutes ago, David Dennison said: Y'all are having a good season so far, but this sounds insecure. Ah, yes, because this obsessive stable genius, a fan of a team that's now 3-2 with dim prospects for the remainder of the season, is "taunting" an undefeated one that will likely be favored in all of its remaining conference games and a solid chance of making the playoffs. Now, mind you, I -- an alumnus of the University and fan of the program since the days of Earl -- personally take no pleasure in seeing Texas play like shit. But that particular poster is a Grade A piece of shit.
October 5Oct 5 Mainly it's just mocking statsman individually rather than any real jabs at Texas. I'm sure Texas will figure it out whatever mistakes it has made with roster construction sooner rather than later. It's just amusing to us at Tech fans to be "taunted" over our NIL spending when our talent evaluation and roster construction seems to be working as it should and our success rate with transfers is currently very high. I was interested to learn recently that, at Tech, the coaches are mostly divorced from the talent evaluation process. Obviously they convey certain needs, and are involved in the actual recruiting process (as coaches normally are), but for the most part it seems like talent evaluation and player targeting (HS and portal) is fully done by the GM's office without oversight from the head coach. The coaches seem to be mostly free to just focus on actually coaching football, rather than spending a big chunk of their time focusing on acquisitions. This is probably a big reason (along with our success rate with transfers) that James Blanchard has fended off many attempt to poach him so far. I would be interested in learning how Texas and other NIL powerhouses go about this, because earlier I asserted/assumed that Tech was following the Texas model but considering what I've learned in the past few months from listening to Tech talking heads, it seems like our approach might be a bit different than others.
