The bears told him you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

It's too bad he didn't sign with ESPN and be forced to sit in a booth with Beth.

Lol.  What does comp look like for this type of role?

So post firing:

  • 1st offseason
    • 13 D1 HC changes
    • Tom lobbies for USCe job.  Told Nah.
  • 1st season (2021)
    • settles on vague offensive analyst role with Bears.
    • If there was any reporting of him actually being close to the game / adding value to the organization I saw none of it
    • not saying it's Tom's fault (rookie QB / dysfunctional org), but Bears offense goes from bad to worse
  • 2nd offseason
    • 29(!) D1 HC changes, shuffling of staffs
    • December-  Tom tells Andy Staples he's "not interested in college roles" and prefers to stay in NFL.  Righhhht.
    • Bears HC change, Tom asked soooo what exactly would you say you do here?
  • 2nd season (2022)
    • No other NFL team wants him(?) so he settles for CBS college analyst role?

Doesn't sound like a career move for someone preferring to stay in the NFL.  Or maybe this is his way of getting his foot back in the college door after not landing a gig during  one of the busiest coaching carousels in recent memory?

Weird... it's almost like nobody really wants to employ fuckface.

Herman: “Can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining the CBS team.  I think I’m going to add a lot to your SEC broadcast.  No offense to Gary Danielson, but I think your audience is ready for my MENSA level analysis.”

CBS: “Yeah, that’s great, Tom.  So, listen, you’re calling Arkansas Pine Bluff vs. Sam Houston State on Tuesday night.  We’ve got your itinerary with the reservation at Hampton Inn and your bus fare right here for you.  Remember we will reimburse up to $30 per night in expenses, so keep track of those incidentals!  Love having you here in the CBS family, keep your dick in your pants, kthxbye.”

He would probably love to call a Sam Houston State game. He could talk for hours about how great of a teammate and athlete BJ Foster is.

Ok, I’ll admit, this is something I never thought I’d read.

He went 22-4 at UH and 32-18 at UT without a single losing season. Surely there's a Toledo or New Mexico out there for him somewhere.

This is a chance to rebuild his image and brand from the booth. It has worked for other coaches.

I'm surprised every coach doesn't just sit on the buyout contract and hop back in when it runs out.

He could have had a ton of those jobs I bet. He didn’t want them.  They would lessen his buyout. He’s good making 5 million not working. As would most of us be.

How did Michelle take the firing and KS discussions?  Does she need some comforting?  Asking for the board.

Man, this one is great but I can’t remember who dropped this first .  Would love to credit whoever did.  Makes me laugh every time.

He speaks in a borderline monotone. That’ll go over great in broadcasting.

I was wondering the same thing. Do these TV companies have any kind of evaluation process for coaches or do they hire based on name recognition and assume they can train them up on the job?

Where’s the booth…. Sugar’s?The Yellow Rose?

Surely there is a market out there for a coach who never wins or loses by more than 7 points.

Yeah.  If he wants a college job, someone will hire him.

It’s going to be fun, when after every snap and the play-by-play announcer finishes describing the action, hearing a gulp of liquid, a Gatorade bottle slam to the press box desktop and Herman harshly bellow out, “Questions?”

Tom wasn’t and isn’t a terrible coach.  He’s had better success as head coach with his success at UH and winning a sugar bowl at Texas along with winning bowl games every year than most Power 5 coaches.  Is he an elite coach, definitely not but he’ll forsure land a gig when his buyout runs out.  The problem with Herman is that he is a narcissist asshole that nobody likes.  His locker room almost revolted on him.  Dude embarrassed the university multiple times with his stupid amateurish behavior.  He wants to be like Urban Meyer and hung out with the likes of Zach Smith.  I’d rather lose 5 games and be a laughing stock than suffer through his mediocre 7-8 win seasons and watching him act like a child asshole representing our university.

That and based on the rumors, on this board, he might have major off the field problems.

People are talking about the buyout but if any of the rumors were true he may have a difficult time passing a background check. Who was it that said Herman had to be followed home by someone at Texas because they thought he was eventually going to get pulled over for a DUI?

He's definitely good enough to get another job but are teams willing to hire an asshole alcoholic?

Well, we just hired a recovering alcoholic in Sark. It’s all about getting admitted to the Nick Saban institute of coaching rehabilitation special analyst program at Alabama.

Just now, Armybrat said:

Yes, that's better wording.

I don't think any school has an issue hiring a coach that's willing to get help and correct their problems. See Sark. I guess the question is if Herman was willing to take those steps?
