Well, that’s not the AP poll, so …

  • For anyone like me who sat in Texas Stadium in early December 2001, Chris Simms would be the last person I'd want to speak on the difficulty level of winning the Big 12.

Did we...go down a spot?

That's weird. Ah well.

Washington (NR to 18), Oregon (25 to 15) and Penn State (22 to 14) had impressive wins and jumped a bunch of teams. Texas, Wake and Florida all fell a spot or two because we all got jumped.

Remind me how much Oregon was blown out by uga? And why are they in the top 20?

Oregon lost to Georgia on a neutral site by more margin than SCar lost to them yesterday at home.

This is why all you mouth breathers that want to open the season unranked in some quixotic attempt to surprise people are stupid.
we are playing from behind all year perception wise. If we’d have opened in the top 10 we’d still be top 10.
it hurts us every single week relative to our comparable teams.

Slightly disagree. Pre-season rankings are irrelevant to Texas. Texas is a program that doesn't need to worry about the pre-season ranking if they are winning. This season is no different. Run the table with wins over multiple T25 teams, win the conference, one loss by a point to a playoff team. Do that and Texas is in the CFP, pre-season unranking be damned. You want to be in the CFP? Don't lose and win a P5. That's all there is to it and the margin for error will only increase for Texas with an expanded playoff.

Your concern is only relevant when you lose. And starting pre-season ranked high means dick when you proceed to lose.

My suspicion is that there will be a 2 loss team in the playoffs this year. If we’d have started in the top 10, lost by a point to Bama and a close one to OU or OSU, go 8-1 and then win the payback game in Arlington that would be a much better situation being in the top 10 the entire year than what we will have staring behind the 8 ball.
there is zero benefit to starting unranked or ranked really low.

You mean an sec team.

I predicted Bama, Georgia Michigan and OSU. That’s weird bc they all play each other but if everyone else has 2 losses then it will go down that way.

We win all our remaining games we will be in the cfp. That's all that matters.

Except that’s not all that matters bc there’s a good chance a 2 loss team will make it and that won’t be. The fact that it won’t be us wouldn't be based upon play on the field but rather preseason bullshit. The fact that people ignore this is bizarre. There is zero benefit to starting the year lowly rated.

No 2 loss team has ever made the CFP.

Oh yeah there is no benefit. Starting out lowly ranked is bad.

They were just tired of the whole be top ten and then end the season 5-7 thing. Superstition and all that.

Anyway if we lose 2 even if we did start in the top 10 there is a zero chance we would make it. We are not SEC, not yet anyway. Got to go 12-1 and that one has to be to Alabama by one point, any other 12-1 wouldn't work.

I know. This feels like the year that changes. Domers are ass. My bet is the big 12 champ has 2 losses when it’s all said and done. Bama and Georgia play as do OSU and Michigan. Clemson looks incredibly horrific at #5. I don’t see 2 losses on SC’s schedule right now with Domers being awful and the PAC 12 being ass, but their offense is horribad so who knows.
just feels like a goofy year in college FB where a 2 loss team is going to be there, or at least have a real argument to go over maybe a shitty 1 loss ACC team or something.

Third best 2 loss team in the country!

Seriously though, I hope the team doesn't pay any attention and keeps playing like they did last two weeks.

#247

More like Georgia and Ohio State looked amazing. Almost made you forget the Missouri game.

Of course no team has had it on easy mode as much as Ohio State has this season. Penn State and Michigan are their only real games and I have questions about Penn State.

Yeah- Pedo State isn’t very good. They thumped a super shitty Auburn team, got super lucky to escape a meh Purdue team and otherwise have just sort of existed in boring rust belt playing nobody and being ignored like they rightfully should be.
