August 20, 20223 yr Thoughts on an electrical vehicle. I do not have a 220 outlet in my garage. Meter and box are on the opposite side of the house. 25 years ago I ran three 8 gauge wires around the perimeter of the house to run a hot tub at 220. Worked fine. Hot tub was near the garage. If I extend those wires into the garage, is 8 gauge wire run 100 feet OK to charge a car? (I forget the breaker amperage?)
August 20, 20223 yr Looks to be right on the limits... also depending on what Amps you want at the wall https://www.southwire.com/calculator-vdrop
August 21, 20223 yr you probably want to call an electrician so you don't kill yourself. if going by averages, 15k miles a year translates to 41mi per night, with average efficiency, you probably need 12kwhr pumped into the car over 8hr. that makes charging power requirement of 1500w... or lets say 2000w taking into account heat losses. from 220V single phase thats only 9 amps. more practically, just pay to install a so-called "level 2" permanent wall charger. it should push out 7-10kw, which is enough to top a car from empty to full overnight. never have to think about it again.
