We have seen games with 3 punt blocks and games with 3 blocked extra points. We have seen the 2010 punt return and kick return teams fumble every other kick. It is kind of hard to envision something like nothing we've seen before.

IT also revised their long snapper projection to St Louis. That makes two scholly special team players who do not appear to be ready to earn their spot.

If true, hopefully we’ll just see Sark just default to going for it on 4th down a lot more. The math really favors that anyway, and especially so if your kicker sucks.

Texas 47 ULM 9.

Whoever we throw out at PK goes 5-7 on PAT, 0-3 on FGA. After the game there's a change.org petition started for Austin FC and YETI to immediately fund an NIL package for Sebastian Driussi to enroll and walk on. It receives 300,000+ signatures, mostly by Sark under pseudonyms.

Bijan for 183 (117 rushing - 66 receiving)

Edited by theorangeblood

57-21 Texas

Bijan - 175 yards from scrimmage 2 TD's

Worthy - 6 catches, 150 yards 2 TD's

Seeing that chart reminded me - ULM has one of my favorite modern G5 logos. It's unique, and it's a really nice update of their Indians era logo

The Monroe News-Star appears to have missed the Ewers announcement

Quote

Sept. 3: at Texas

Last season: Did not play. Longhorns went 5-7.

The buzz: The Warhawks start the season against Big 12 competition. Texas has yet to name a starting quarterback, but it shouldn't matter: ULM could be overwhelmed on each side of the ball.

The pick: Texas wins, 42-20.

42-14 Texas. Bijan has 250 Total Yards 175 rushing and 75 receiving.

These are some incredible stats. I wonder how he has access to these, as I haven't seen a database that tracks all this. Hopefully he keeps posting these throughout the season.

Our offense was generally good, but the Eckel Rate (percentage of drives with a scoring opportunity) and low ranking of 1st downs on 1st or 2nd down both show how much we struggled with 3 and outs. I haven't' seen a stat for it, but I'd wager the majority of our 3 and outs came in the second half. That and converting explosive plays are the two biggest things our offense needs to improve if we want to go from an offense ranked in the 30s to top 15.

On defense, we were 83rd in EPA, which seems about right. S&P+ had us around there. DFEI had us low 50s, but that seems too high IMO.  I think around 80th is more correct. Us being 99th in the country on Success Rate also tracks. We consistently gave up good yardage on runs and created very few negative plays, so offenses were almost always on schedule against us. We have to improve our perimeter run defense and find a way to make some negative plays, whether it's letting our DL be more aggressive or bringing more blitzes.  PK relied more on blitzes at UW to create negative plays, but Patterson created negative plays more through twisting and stunting his 4 man DL. Last year, PK didn't make a change to either, so hopefully we see the defense try at least one of those methods this year. Increased confidence in our secondary should help that this year.

If we have a year that's 8-4 or better, it will likely happen by both sides of the ball fixing these things and us having an offense that ends up around 10th and a defense around 50th. OU went 11-2 last year while being 8th in O and 56th in D, so that's about the blueprint I could see for us.  I can't see a much bigger leap from the defense with all the personnel issues we still have on that side of the ball. Our offense is drastically more talented than our defense and will have to be what carries us if we win big this year. I'm not sure our O is ready to do that right away, but I think the improvement curve is much more important than the starting point. It's a question of how quickly Ewers and our Freshman OL can improve over the course of the year. If Sark is going to make it as a head coach, we'll need to see clear improvement over the course of the season, which is something that was non-existent last year.

I think Bijan will have 130 yards. 90 rushing and 40 receiving. He won’t play much in the 2nd half and might not be the leading rusher in the game because of that

Prediction:

ULM: Muledick   (10)  7pts on fumble by receiver after making great catch then coughing it up.

UT:  All gas  (63)  10 touchdowns, miss all extra pts and we drink our livers to the point of cirrhosis if it isn't already there after 12 years wondering the desert...

70-3.   Bijan goes for 215 total yards in the first half.

We need separate threads for scores vs. discussing the game...

Listening to the Horn this morning they had some interesting tidbits about the team this year.

Ojomo said there will be much more four man fronts this year than last year, whatever that actually means.

The secondary finally is constructed to cover well from all DB positions

Bijan will play in the slot a lot since the WR depth is an issue.

Wonder if that means they will go with some jumbo 4 man fronts with Ojomo and/or Collins at DE. They kicked Collins out last year in the second half of the season but I think they mainly stayed in a 3 down look when they did that.

According to a guy in the athletic department, Collins doesn't have the athleticism to play DE. I agree. He is a good athlete for an interior guy and at best average for a DE or ED.

Texas Homer:  Texas Longhorns vs. Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks: Full Game Preview & Breakdown

Texas defense needs to dominate this team.

ULM:  Poor OL, can't throw deep so offense struggled in 2021.  TE's were primarily used as receivers in redzone.  They did get a new OC for 2022 though -- Matt Kubik.

Texas OL especially our OT's should have a good day run blocking on Saturday.

ULM:  Defense was not good in 2021.  New DC is Vic Koenning. Run DL's struggle but are better inside than at ends.  LB's are better.  Secondary has a lot of changes in 2022.

Texas: 62

ULM: 13

Bijan: 149 rushing, 52 receiving (201 total)

Bijan in the slot and RoJo at tailback would be a nightmare to defend, imo.

I think that is exactly what this means. This is very good news if true.

Why would that be better than JWhitt in the Slot and Bijan at RB? I am against anything that takes touches away from Bijan.

Average play from the edge would be a major improvement for us.

I haven't read the entire thread so if I'm duplicating somebody's pic, you'll have to fight me.

Winners- 40, losers-13

Bijan- 180 total yards, 140 rushing, 40 passing, probably sits early once the game is in hand.

We have the best RB unit in college football and a great receiver in Bijan. It's more touches not less.

NO.. You can give Bijan 20+ touches from the RB position. You are not giving him 20+ from the slot. Giving Rojo 20+ touches and Bijan under 10 is a bad idea. To repeat, anything that gives Bijan less touches is a bad idea. A really, really, bad idea

20 touches can come from running or throwing. Bijan will get 20+ per game.

Wrong. Again it's not less touches. It's more. No one's talking fucing 20 touches from the slot. It's every now and then. It's not taking him out when Rojo comes in to block. It's going four receivers with him and JWhit. It's all kinds of cool looks.

Situational package like less than 20% of the time I’d bet. Get him ball in space and let him serve as somewhat of a decoy imo.

If you are talking about bringing Rojo into block and Bijan out to the slot to run  routes in passing situations, that is fine and nothing new.  That did not seem to be what was implied when someone said "it would be a nightmare to defend", seems like that would imply something being used frequently and in more than just passing situations, since you need to threaten with the run to make it a "nightmare to defend"

No idea why you just assume he'll be playing slot full time. No one has said anything remotely near that. They can use him in the slot without reducing his touches, while also getting him in open space in advantageous situations, and getting our best players on the field. This is a good thing, not a bad thing. We should've have used him as a receiver and deployed 2 back sets more last year.

And to the point of best 11, with Neyor out, Rojo is better than Casey Cain, so we're better off using 2 back sets over 11 personnel, which would naturally involve motioning Biajn to the slot at times because he's the second best WR on the roster after Worthy.

Nobody is proposing to move Bijan to the slot full time. Vince Young to TE talk not going away.

Doesn't this just mean exactly what it says?  We played tons of 3-down after the early injuries.
