I've never not had someone take the cart when I've said, "hey, here you go buddy. I left a little gas in it for you."

Depends on whether that front wheel is wobbling around.

I fully realize I am replying to a 2 year old post....

but just wanted to point out that the assholes who didnt rewind their tapes at blockbuster got punished when they returned the next time and were hit with a $3 tape rewind fee per tape

the folks that never return the cart never get any punishment or even pushback so there is nothing stopping them from doing it over and over again.

Not true. They burn in hell.

There are two grocery stores in my town:

1.  Safeway, which has a long, thin parking lot bordering the store, and I never see loose carts:

2.  King Soopers, which has a large, deep lot, many loose carts every time I go:

I can hear this post.

What's that blue line at the edge of parking lots? Looks to form a square of some sort and every grocery store in Texas has them but I've never found an explanation.

Back in the day, I lived off Red River a block from what was at the time an HEB.

I just pushed the cart all the way home to my house. Left it in the front yard, reused it next time I or my roommate went to the store.

Where does that put me on the shopping cart theory?

One day a cop actually stopped at the house, and told my roommate to take it back, right now, or he was going to arrest him.

Not sure where that puts you on the shipping cart theory, but I'm pretty sure I know where the cop falls on the cop theory...

To make it more realistic, they need to add a wobbly wheel and put a couple of "penalty cars" that cause you to lose points if you hit them.

Cross the line and the wheel lock activates.

If that's the case, then many grocery stores must have them crisscrossing the entire interior of their stores.

No don't think so. Most HEBs don't have cart locks.  I think it might be employee parking.

Yesterday winds were30mph+ in the area. I've seen the wind blow carts across the open areas of parking lots and they are hauling ass.  You definitely don't want your vehicle getting hit, unless you drive a beater like I do.

Anyhoo, I am loading my groceries into my truck and see the wind blow a cart OUT of the corral( bastard!,) then spin it around, and it hits EXACTLY in the right spot on the corral diagonal across the lane( nice work!)  I could have sat there all day and not hit it from the opposite corral. CSB and HOLY SHIT! at the same time.

HEB (at least the ones I've been in) 100% have cart locks. But it's usually at the entrances. They have sensors on if you buy something or not. They supposedly flip on when you enter, then flip off when you go through a checkout. Prevents people from loading up a cart & jetting.

I wish i could find it, there is one where a fat lady is going after him and he says " I can walk backwards faster than you" and ragebaited her so hard.

bwahahhahaaaaaaaaa found it. "no offense to your speed abilities..." bro....

Shopped at HEB almost 50 years and have never once seen a cart lock.

Only one with cart locks in Austin I know of is the HEB at Lamar and rundberg

Ha!  I think I've been in that HEB once, maybe twice in my life.  Not in the past 15 years, certainly.

They all get out of the vehicle spouting off about respecting their property, yet...

They have them at the McNeil/Parmer location. I know this because they have locked up on me as I walked out the last 2 times I’ve been there. I just assumed something jammed in the wheel the first time. Both times a worker came over and unlocked it for me. Not sure why they locked as I was coming straight from the checkout both times

That’s a shame because it has a fine assortment of delicious Mexican candies like pulparindo, spicy pulparindo, and mazapan

I took two small children to the grocery store and target today. It’s really not fucking hard to put the cart back.

To be fair, your username suggests that you are aware of consitpation in a parking lot, while admirable, Jum is worried about everything else!

That probably sounded better in your head at 2 am than it read in print at 6 am.
