August 29, 20223 yr Men's draw I don't have a damn clue about this except Rafa is playing. Women's draw This may be more wide open than Wimbledon. For my annual random pick, I'll go with Ms. Karolina Pliskova. Play begins at 10a on the various ESPN platforms. Day 1 OoP
August 29, 20223 yr I am in NYC and wanted to go to the qualifying days this past weekend (Tuesday-> Sunday we’re all free qualifying days), but was otherwise preoccupied these past two days, so I thought that I would pick up a ~$70 grounds pass. HOLY FUCK was I mistaken! Tickets are mid $100s and up!! That’s in part due to The BLOAT playing tonight on Arthur Ashe followed by Nick Kyrgios playing his Special K buddy, Kokkinakis after that. Great 11:00am matches on numbered courts: Sebastian Korda, Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz ms be the 2nd or 3rd up, but the tickets are insane. Edited August 29, 20223 yr by Napoleon
August 29, 20223 yr I’ll pick Medvedev and Bencic. I sincerely hope the latter doesnt happen, but I just have a sick feeling this may be her time to win a slam
August 29, 20223 yr Author Belinda was actually my other choice since they’ll have to play each other in R3. I mostly went with KP cause she’s the lower seed, so it was more of a reach. Edited August 29, 20223 yr by shadow_operative2.0 higher/lower, either way
August 29, 20223 yr I just watched Mannarino on the practice courts about 30 minutes ago. Mainly doubles and fringe players on outside practice courts. Better know players can get time on courts inside the grounds. I still haven’t bought a ticket yet, but I’ll likely snag an Ashe stadium ticket after 6pm. One nose bleed dropped from $127 or $126 to $119 and it was snatched up in seconds. Probably by someone already inside the grounds.
August 29, 20223 yr Just turned on the TV and the slobbering over Serena is bad. She’s the best woman player ever but these announcers sound like junior high girls
August 29, 20223 yr Author I've got Rus/Rogers on one of the DTV bonus channels for now, much better.
August 29, 20223 yr I can’t say I’ve watched a ton of tennis but Serena hitting one serve out then the next three straight in the net doesn’t seem ideal.

August 29, 20223 yr Was that Mike Tyson sitting next to Martina? Random. Bill Clinton and Dr. Ruth? Edited August 29, 20223 yr by 4th&Five
August 29, 20223 yr Hillary sure has aged. Was that Mike Tyson sitting next to Martina? Random. Power couple.
August 30, 20223 yr Hard to imagine Serena no longer in the picture. So dominant for such a long time. I’m trying to get jazzed about the latest crop of womens tennis players but I’m just kinda meh about all of them…

She’s the best woman player ever but these announcers sound like junior high girls The slobbering her in the Ashe is over-the-top as well Lots of noise mid-point Have no idea why Kovinic is employing this “strategy”. She should be drop-shotting or the shit out of this match when she isn’t taken plenty off of her forehand crosscourt shots so that they don’t go over the baseline I early in the first set I thought that Serena would lose the match, but Danika seems pretty slow on the up-take and Serena may just squeeze out the win. If it goes back I 3, she’s toast. 1 hour ago, 4th&Five said: Was that Mike Tyson sitting next to Martina? Random. Bill Clinton and Dr. Ruth? Saw Martina play at SMU in the ‘80s, saw Clinton at Meechum Field (?:.. Fort Worth) after midnight in the wee hours before he was elected in ‘92, and sold something to Dr. Ruth in a museum shop a year or two after. She is absolutely tiny! (And that was nearly 30 years ago.) Dr. Ruth looked me in the eye (No “Key & Peele”) and said… ”You’re a very good salesman.” 27 minutes ago, Nicole44 said: Hard to imagine Serena no longer in the picture. August 30, 20223 yr They thought that Serena was going to lose. Gail from CBS this Morning, then Billie Jean King, then Gail again, and now a video narrated by Oprah. NEWSFLASH: She didn’t lose! Let’s get on to the next match! And then Gail’s words & boobs again. My god, this is not an exhibition match! It is the first match of the first night of the last major of the year. NO! Someone said “BLOAT”, Gail. Holy F!!! 🤬🤬
August 30, 20223 yr Yeah, when Serena goes up against someone that can get a first serve in, she might be in trouble unless her serve is cranking. That whole match was pretty disappointing tennis with a couple of exceptions.

August 30, 20223 yr In the first game, on the 3rd or 4th point, Kyrgios: - served a let - served a second let - served a third time, hit a rally or two and won the point… …all in 31 seconds. It takes longer than that just for Rafa to hit the 2nd serve. Nick is so good it is nuts.

August 30, 20223 yr Arthur Ashe Stadium DJ just played “I come From A Land Down Under” during the last changeover. 2 Aussies playing each other, wonder if he was the first guy to think of that. 🙄

Her gamesmanship needs to be addressed this off-season and clear rules need to be put in place regarding: -WHEN you can call the trainer. -HOW LONG you can take a bathroom break. -HOW LONG you can whine to a chair umpire and… -HOW MANY TIMES you can whine to a chair umpire. ….before the penalties start.
August 30, 20223 yr Author That was before the match even started, not exactly a big deal for her opponent. It took 2 minutes.
August 30, 20223 yr Author Garbine somehow managed to avoid a decider against Tauson, gets the 17-year old Linda Fruhvirtova next.
August 30, 20223 yr Badosa now up 5-2. I'm watching with no sound but Tsurenko is really hobbling around. Looks like the trainer just gave her the old inner thigh ice massage. Edited August 30, 20223 yr by WBT
August 30, 20223 yr Venus loses in a 2nd set tie-breaker and she gets swept out the door like she’s never made it past the 3rd round and she’ll be back next year.

August 30, 20223 yr Spoiler I volunteer to help these ladies shower off after the match. And if there’s only one shower stall available for the three of us to share, then that’s a sacrifice that I’m willing to make. I support these ladies 110%!
August 30, 20223 yr Author Belinda struggled to beat Petko in 3, who apparently is only playing one more tourney in Europe. 3 & 3 for Yulia.
