April 19Apr 19 Free beer on Senior Day at TCU. They honored 12 today, that’s a whole lot of spots to fill. Moreno played the two early matches this weekend, so their #1 pair should be fine for Gulf Shores.
April 21Apr 21 We were supposed to be in CCSA, but it basically folded. LSU/FSU/S. Carolina/us are the 4 schools. LSU still has this link on their schedule for the conference tourney. https://storage.googleapis.com/lsusports-com/2025/04/3f1c6015-2025-ccsa-conference-schedule.pdf Edited April 21Apr 21 by shadow_operative2.0
April 21Apr 21 Guess they’ll fill in the seeds tomorrow. Quote For the first time in program history, the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium will be the host of the CCSA Conference Championships, April 25-26. The CCSA is comprised of LSU, Texas, FSU, and South Carolina. “When we designed the stadium, we had the thought of hosting regional and national events,” said head coach Russell Brock. “We always planned to host big championships like this. It’s exciting to finally get that opportunity and we know that it will be a fantastic venue for a great tournament.” The tournament will follow a double elimination structure, with the championship game being held Saturday, April 26th, at 1 PM CT. A more in-depth bracket will be released Monday, April 21st, prior to the start of the tournament, with the seedings of the schools and specific game times.
April 21Apr 21 Makes sense if the winner bracket game is at 5pm - #1 gets an extra couple hours of rest
April 21Apr 21 They mainly just wanted LSU second. Beach volleyball doesn’t need much rest, sitting around is probably worse.
April 25Apr 25 Went to the Big XII tourney today, ASU/TCU. That shit was a lot fancier with ESPN+ there.
April 26Apr 26 Broom, bitches. We are the CCSA conference champs. Props to FSU’s twitter people all weekend.
April 27Apr 27 NCAA tournament draw is out. Texas will face Cal in the first round, and if we win that match we'll face #2 TCU in the quarterfinals. https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/beach-volleyball/nc/2025
April 27Apr 27 Stanford won the P12 tourney this weekend, that R2 draw against Poly is tough for both. Same for LMU/USC.
April 30Apr 30 Utah announced they're discontinuing their beach program. Have a feeling more programs will be shut down because of the House settlement
April 30Apr 30 Zero AVCA All-Americans, first or second team, for the ladies in burnt orange. Thought Maddie & Karin might snag one at 3s.
May 1May 1 Meant to type this up after the late March tournament in Austin, but lost track of time. I'm pretty sure I wrote something like the following… And if I didn't do it here, I'll claim I did somewhere else. There is a progression here: You learn to lose - this means you learn how to learn from your mistakes. Mistakes at all levels - on the court, lineups, coaching prep, off the court, culture You learn to win - this means you're applying those lessons learned, but you don't yet have the focus to win consistently. Therefore, you're above 0.500, but drop games you should win You learn to win consistently - At this point the only things keeping you from winning it all are players maximizing their potential, minor adjustments in strategy, and bad bounces. We saw this evolution with football the past few years. I think Metzger has this team setting foot into the "win consistently" tier. I don't think we're firmly there yet despite the ranking. A few other observations from the [looks at calendar and hangs head] Mar 21-22 weekend. Parmelly has way above average vision/anticipation. Odd to see Ava go from Ct 1 last year to 5 this year, but with all the turnover not shocking. She won't wow you with raw athleticism, but she's pretty fundamentally sound, which works well on Ct 5 where opponents tend to make unforced errors I'm sure I said it last year, but I hope Wright works on her focus because she has a lot of physical talent to unleash if she pulls it all together Coach Akers probably used the word "focus" fifty times that weekend when talking to the girls. Goes back to my point above about winning consistently. Charles has a pretty good left hand Maybe it's just me and who I have/haven't watched, but have the 1s across the country regressed this year? Asking because I'm not recalling the Kraft/VanWinkle/Maple types from recent years getting into AVP main draws I'm curious how our 1s and 2s fare against one another in practice. I'd guess they are about even? There can't be many things in sports fandom more frustrating than sitting at Ct 2, watching your team lose a point, turn to Ct 1, seeing your team lose that point, and then turning to Ct 3 and seeing your team lose a point there all in about 20 seconds. Hell, I probably saw that across five Cts the first season and I blocked it from my memory I really like the three Ct setup instead of 5. You can see more as a fan. I'm sure the coaches prefer it as they can be present at all matches. The tension builds much more with two waves of matches.. Even if one team wins 4s and 5s, you can get compelling comeback potential in the second wave. The first year, I traveled thousands of miles to watch them go 1-12. The next year, I traveled thousands of miles to watch them go 7-8. This year, I traveled thousands of miles and watched them beat the #13, #11, and #2 ranked teams all in the same weekend. On my way to Gulf Shores now to see how we cap off this season 🤘 Anyone else going?
May 1May 1 Dani Alvarez of TCU deservedly received National PoY today. They play right before us tomorrow.
May 2May 2 LMU v. FAU up now. FAU’s 1s are real good, seen ‘em twice, but they don’t have the horses down the lineup.
May 2May 2 LMU handled business. See you kids around 1, everything will run long. TCU should roll Georgia St fairly quickly though. Full schedule again.
