Starting to think the QB slide should just be taken out of the game. It doesn't protect anyone; it only makes it more likely someone going full speed will destroy the back of your head against the turf.

Either find some other way for the QB to give themselves up or just say get tackled like everyone else.

Seems like the majority of these sliding/targeting penalties occur when QB and defender make decisions simultaneously. QB starts to slide while defender is going low to tackle, all at a much faster speed than shown in replay. I agree that maybe getting rid of the slide protection would eliminate many dangerous collisions, maybe QB does need to wear flags.
