Hell, yeah. Fresca and almost anything alcoholic always delicious summertime beverage.  Especially if there was a swamp cooler set on high that you could stand in front of.

I was surprised when all the bullshit fruity drinks with 5% alcohol in them started popping up, but nobody thought to put that 1/2 oz (ok, 0.6 oz) eyedropper of alcohol in that Fresca and brand the fuck outta that.

I like that Sark has discarded his love for the deep ball with Ewers. We don’t need it. He tried one after we were in control this game and I don’t remember one last week. Keep using Ewers strengths.

Spoiler

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Before the question was finished, Steve Sarkisian assigned the media some quick homework. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has won starts at Alabama and now at Michigan over the past two seasons, after Saturday’s 31-12 statement win.
“I’d love you guys to research that for me,” the Texas head coach said, wondering who else had accomplished that feat. “Just Google real quick and you’ll give me an answer in 30 seconds.”
Google and other historical databases checked later couldn’t find an answer. Notre Dame accomplished it in 1979 and 1980 but with different quarterbacks.
Ewers is likely the first QB in the sport’s 150-year-plus history to win at the two winningest programs in consecutive years. In those two games, Ewers has completed 65 percent of his passes for 595 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.
It’s time to start putting respect on Quinn Ewers’ name. And I mean real, true respect.
It feels weird to say. But despite the wins, despite being among the Heisman Trophy favorites, despite being in a big Dr. Pepper commercial this season, it feels like we’re not really appreciating what Ewers has done. We’re just waiting for what’s next.
Walking around Texas tailgates before Saturday’s game, I counted more No. 16 Arch Manning jerseys than No. 3s for Ewers. Texas fans who gathered around the Michigan Stadium tunnel in the final minutes on Saturday kept asking each other and looking to see if Manning would come in the game. The views on every story and YouTube video for anything Arch go through the roof. The entire premise of the aforementioned Dr. Pepper commercial is about Ewers and the need for backup — “even if he has great hair and famous relatives.”

Play: Video

It’s time to stop that and put it to bed for good. Enough with the quips and the jokes. There is no quarterback controversy in Austin. There never was. There’s always so much talk about the future — there hasn’t been enough appreciation of the present.
It was Ewers who finally brought Texas back to prominence. It was Ewers who won at Alabama, won the Big 12 and reached the College Football Playoff last year.
It was Ewers on Saturday who kept driving Texas forward, even when three offensive line penalties turned an opening touchdown drive into a missed field goal. It was Ewers who followed with a six-play, 56-yard scoring drive capped by a 22-yard touchdown pass. It was Ewers who kept moving in the pocket and helping Texas convert eight of 10 third downs in the first half. It was Ewers who always kept the Longhorns one step ahead and never in danger, putting the offense on his back when it was down to third- and fourth-string running backs in the second quarter.
“He just doesn’t get affected by crowd noise or the emotions of a game,” Sarkisian said. “He stays really clear-minded and focused on what he needs to do.”
It wasn’t always that way. Ewers’ first true road game in 2022 was a disaster — he completed 39 percent of his passes with three interceptions in a windy loss at Oklahoma State. But he hasn’t lost a road game since, winning the past eight. His career numbers on the road are better than at home.
It gets lost sometimes just how much pressure Ewers has been under from the moment he arrived in college. A five-star recruit, he left Southlake Carroll High School in Texas early to enroll at Ohio State and make NIL money only to transfer to Texas following the season after barely seeing the field. Before Ewers had played a game for the Longhorns, Manning committed to Texas, leading to outside speculation wondering if Ewers would transfer again or when he’d eventually cede the job to Peyton Manning’s nephew.
Instead, he took the weight of being the Texas quarterback — and all the politics, spotlight and Matthew McConaughey-ness that comes with it — and he’s taken the Longhorns to a level they haven’t been at in almost 15 years.
Saturday’s dominating win was a reminder that Texas should compete for a College Football Playoff berth and national championship once again this year. There remain hurdles, like the Red River Rivalry game with Oklahoma that the Longhorns lost last year, followed by a home visit from Georgia, and of course the trip to Texas A&M to close the regular season.
But Texas once again looks like one of the best teams in college football. Forget the “Texas is Back” jokes. Saturday told us the Longhorns aren’t going away, and it’s because of the quarterback more than anything else.
As players and coaches sang “The Eyes of Texas” with the thousands and thousands of Burnt Orange-clad fans in an emptying Michigan Stadium, Ewers was still wrapping up a TV interview. He eventually jogged by the southeast corner of the stadium, where the band was, to wave his arms up and down, before heading to the other side of the end zone to embrace friends and family.
Texas fans put as many Horns Up hands as they could as the Longhorns left the field through the tunnel. But as Ewers came by, the same fans who’d been excitedly asking each other if Manning would get in the game yelled “QUINN!!!” as loud as they possibly could.
It’s time to consider Texas as a No. 1-ranked team. It’s time to consider Ewers the early Heisman Trophy leader. It’s time to stop worrying about Arch and instead appreciate that Texas has a quarterback who just accomplished something few, if any, players in college football history have ever done.
“You know I made it to the Playoff without any backup,” Ewers tells Fansville sheriff Brian Bosworth in the Dr. Pepper commercial.
Ewers might just do it again, and Texas might just have a team that can win it all this time.

the touchdown throw to golden was a 10/10, perfect nfl throw. he made it look routine. and that’s really the theme of the season so far for him. he is noticeably more in command of the offense, and notably more calm and comfortable throughout the game. VY had that “aura” about him, to use the word du jour, and 2024 quinn ewers has it too. always looks calm; never looks tired; looks 0% gazed in any way. he really does look like the 1.000 recruit, heisman favorite, top 10 draft pick that he’s been billed as since he was 16.

in fact i compared him/our offense today to colt/our 2009 offense. specifically that anything less than 3rd and 12 feels like light work. that’s how masterful QE has been. Sark is calling near flawless games and it’s simply been up to his offense to execute. through two games this offense has that beautiful balance of “dominant with clear room to improve”, and that’s how i would describe QE as well. he and our offense have been dominant, and yet nobody has played their best. this team has all the trappings of a real contender, and it starts and ends with QE. he is so polished compared to where he started when he got here, and it really really shows. the sky is the limit, for him, and this team.

The TD to Golden on the other side of the endzone last week was equally NFL worthy. One of these defenses is going to try to jump it after these last 2 weeks but I’m not sure it will matter if he keeps throwing it like that.

This is one of the best parts about everything. Sark tailors his offense to the players, instead of fitting them into a system. That Quinn is this good without a consistent deep ball is proof that Sark is a genius. Quinn's success is going to bring in so many QBs in the following years.

And trophies. Don't forget about those. Heisman, Maxwell, Unitas, SEC CC, CFP NC

Quinn will win the Heisman and the NC. Book it. It'll springboard us to landing a couple of oos 5 star RB's, too. Choice and Baker will get Georgia DT'S, Choice will get 1-2 5 star RB's from Alabama or Mississippi.

What stands out to me through the first two games is the progress he’s made on ball placement/accuracy and the timing of his throws. He’s always thrown a very catchable ball, which I’ve felt is an under appreciated asset. He has a ton of arm strength but he doesn’t throw lasers. His ability to throw a highly catchable ball, on time, and with accuracy is a beautiful thing to watch. He had several against Michigan that were inch perfect. The dot to Bond on the first drive, the TD pass to Golden, a crosser to Helm in the 2nd half, and the TD to Blue are just a few that stand out to me.

Watching him carve up defenses the rest of the year is going to be fun to watch.

Those swing passes like blue td aren’t easy throws at all but the precision is make  or break

#9632

his footwork is lightyears better. he is now able to pivot/jump, move around and find his 2nd or 3rd read with a much more stable body to throw from, generating that accuracy. this is where you are an nfl qb versus just a dude who can throw passes in college.

VY was the greatest college quarterback of all time.

Would love to see it happen, but I don't really think that's possible. Even if we were to go undefeated and he wins the Heisman, that's still gonna be VY.

Ewers had a great game and this thread popped up at the top of my unread list. When I saw the post about Ewers potentially becoming best QB ever at Texas I thought “who the hell said that.” When I saw it was me, I literally thought Red Five had cut and pasted wrong. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking. As great as he’s been, I don’t see how he could pass Vince. That post was nuts. I had to have been drunk.

I’ll summarize the New York Times article for you:

Ewers had a great game vs Michigan but Arch Manning ultimately has more upside. They mentioned that Manning throws a harder pass, which is a clear sign of having more upside. They wrote that Manning should have played the entire fourth quarter and is probably really mad right now. They shared an Upside Ratio chart which surprisingly had Trey Owens above both Manning and Ewers and Cole Lourd at the top.

#9640

His arm strength was on full display on the TD pass before the half. That was a seed and the DB never had a chance to get near that thing. Just because he doesn’t wind up and throw rocket balls doesn’t mean he doesn’t let some throws rip. He’s putting it all together but a lot of this isn’t new.

Edited by Revolution512

#9641

Currently, the only gripe I have is his tendency to use a 3/4 arm slot when he throws sometimes. He got one or two batted/tipped balls at the line because of it.
He appears to be more engaged with his teammates and a better leader as well. He also looked bored out there sometimes because it seemed pretty easy for him.

#9644

Quinn looked like a surefire first rounder after his game in Tuscaloosa last year too. Then he played Wyoming and looked like warmed over dogshit.

Let's see him bail Sark out of less than stellar gameplans and elevate his team when they are not at their best.

That said, if he does this against Georgia, he's gonna go top 10, even if he's under 6'2.

I don’t know if you’d consider that clutch pass to Bond on third down of our first series of the game a deep ball or not (can’t remember how long that play was) but that throw was a thing of beauty.

#9646

I wonder how much Sarkisian has discarded his love for the deep ball versus having the weapons to do other things, too, more so than before last season. It’s not like he wasn’t taking shots last year. I think it just feels less forced now when there’s more to it than Worthy on a fly.

#9647

We have a lot of guys that are really good in space and they are doing a great job of creating that space.

I love the fact that he does not hesitate on his throws at all.

When it is there the ball is gone.

Sark asks the assembled media to figure out how many QBs have won at Alabama and at Michigan in their careers. Then he expanded on how much Quinn Ewers has grown as the Longhorns’ QB1.
