ok I just landed in Chisinau. where are these wimminz?

No joke, of everywhere I’ve been on the globe Chisinau had the most beautiful women. Supposedly it’s the intersection of three different regions of human “tribes”, or something to that effect.

What is everyone complaining about.

Quinn went on the road against a team that has dominated us historically and that we haven't beaten in 90 years and he walked out with a win.

I agree with all the complaints about Quinn Ewers. He isn't up to our 'standard':

Second best QB on that list, fuck it, throw him out with the garbage is the sense I get from this thread.

People shouldn't forget where we are coming from.

Ash does not belong on this list, there's an argument that neither does Buechele (who has a SB ring BTW).

Garrett Gilbert got his shit together post Texas and that was 100% mental and you and everyone around him and everyone in the league since knows it. His situation is unique and while looking back it's unfair that Mack Brown didn't prepare him at all for the biggest stage imaginable, he still didn't pull it out and never recovered while at Texas from that.

Yeah, Ash would have been a good qb.  He was already on the way to being one.  His career got ended by concussions.

Ash most certainly deserves to be on that list. His results at Texas were extremely mediocre. 4 years. 31 TDs. 18 INTs. And the fact that Gilbert got better after he left Texas is irrelevant to my point.

That's not Sark's scheme, only part of it like everyone else's. Run football, bite on run RPO, sit on RPO, throw over top. Rinse and repeat. The Sark loop. But you know the first and most important part of Sark's scheme? Running the football. Teams are sitting back in coverage and we can't get them to walk up and address the running game. They handle it easily in base D. So teams are ignoring the run game and scheming for Quinn.

That's not really true. The last 3 opponents are showing 2 high Cover 2 pre snap, but then at the snap changing to cover 3 or single high man (mostly). Georgia and Vanderbilt also started blitzing a lot of DBs. Vanderbilt blitzed just their nickel probably 10 to 12 times in the game.

The opportunities to throw for big yards are there. The defenses aren't just sitting back. The offense, everyone on the offense, are doing a poor job handling the post snap change.

It's not our standard that matters. It's Sark's standard. Charlie and Herman aren't coaching here anymore. Sark is a proven QB guy. The standard for QB play raises wherever he goes. Look at his time at Alabama.

Doesn't belong on the list. He was one of the few bright spots of a very dark era.

Ash was pretty decent, in his two healthy years. Definitely not a bust, other than healthwise.

One thing I wanted him to do was punt. He was the 5A (or however many A's they had then) All State punter in HS. Just the threat with your QB in the game on fourth down means the D can't go to Special Team personnel without having serious preparation. You don't even need to line up in punt formation - just shotgun/dropback lets you do plenty of things whether you kick it away or not.

Woulda been more fun than pregame jet packs, anyway...

Texas - the king of backup NFL QB's. I'd like to think that it is because our guys are smart enough to make millions while never putting their body in harms way.

Ash came in with very high expectations and for whatever reasons, did not meet those expectations. Injuries, while unfortunate, can be included in reasons players can be busts.

Ash had a very discernable upward trajectory until the head shit.

#13021

Ash looked good in his 2nd year.  He was mobile and had a good and accurate arm.  Concussions aren't something you can do anything about unless you are Tua and want to play until you're a drooling idiot.

Pretty sure all recruits - QBs and other positions - come into our program with high expectations, some higher than others, true.

So, we have Great Quarterbacks and busts. Great QBs get drafted to NFL, become starters, make All Pro, win a Super Bowl or a few. Busts are errybody else. Busts are caused by lack of physical talent, lack of effort, lack of mental ability, or unfortunate injuries. Got it.

When we are trotting out 12 personnel and you are dropping into cover 3 you aren't concerned about the running game. Yes they brought guys, but they also zone blitzed a lot dropping guys back out into coverage. I haven't seen anyone consistently bringing numbers in the box to address the running game. They seem to be shrugging their shoulders about it and trying to muddy the reads for Quinn.

???? Why do you think running cover 3 means you dont care about the run? You are able to get 1 safety down in the box compared to a 2 high.

cowherd on the current nfl draft order (teams with 1 or 2 wins):

"one of these teams is going to mortgage their future to draft cam ward or quinn ewers and be drafting in the same place for the next 7 years"

By that reasoning, would you consider Quinn to be a bust? I wouldn’t, and I would t consider Ash to be one either.
#13033

Oh shit, this thread went to Texas QB history.

Well, James Brown was my favorite next to VY in my era, followed by Major. I'll fight anyone of you who craps on a single one of those QBs.

How did Ash come in with high expectations, wasn't he a 3 star recruit?

Ash and Connor Wood were both expected to be Gilbert’s NPC backups, with Ash potentially getting a shot to start as a grizzled upperclassman.

No. I don't consider a QB who took us to the playoffs last year and is 2-1 against OU a bust. David Ash never achieved anything worth mentioning,

Don't tell me you think running a nickel based Cover 3 vs 12 personnel is "showing concern for the run"?

I am asking on the coverage. I dont see the connection to cover 3.

Depends on alignments, is your nickel more of a box type player like a Jelani/Mo Blackwell, or more a coverage? What’s the defensive overall scheme? With our alignments you could

I was just watching the Michigan game again, and man I honestly believe that injury did something to Quinns Psyche.

The Quinn against Michigan was not the same Quinn as Oklahoma and UGA. we started to see glimpses of it against Vandy but not like earlier in the season. My hope is Quinn is getting healthier and out of his head. If that Quinn returns can't no team in CFB can fuck with us.  Yea the O-Line needs to be better but they're a Veteran, smart and gifted group. They know how to play at a high level because they've done it before. They were in the running for the best O-Line group last year and early this season. Hopefully this bye week is what we need for Quinn to settle in the O-Line to work on itself. ''

Texas biggest opponent is Texas, Im not really worried about anyone else. if we play like we're capable of we break UGA off and anybody else that wants some.  I can see if we never seen the team play up to par but we have and I know they can get back to it.

Derek Carr just returned to practice this week from his injury.

I know all oblique injuries aren’t the same but his was oct 9 if I’m not mistaken

Yea If I remember correctly, I think both teams training staffs communicated to see how they delt with their injuries.

Right now, I'm just under the assumption Quinn rushed back due to feeling Arch creeping in. Which I get but looking at these game films before and after no way Quinn was 100% or even 90%. I do think he's getting better though, and I think his play against Vandy showed that specially in the 1st half. I hope this bye week gets him back to where he can move around like he did before the injury.

Putting people on ignore is a bigger pussy move than being scared of pressure.

Each time I post, I feel the pressure of all those incoming ignores bearing down on me. But I feel the fear and do it anyway.

It didn't appear to be an issue in that game. His throws were much better and looked more normal than OU or Georgia.

Coach Speak, Not sure if you played ball or not, but coaches always do that. Dnt want to let the other team know you have a chink in your amour.

All you have to do is watch film, what we've seen since Quinn came back is not the same Quinn. That Vandy game was the best he's look since Before the injury
