I can’t believe there were people saying Allar was better than Quinn earlier this year.

Our resident CTJ brown noser said he’d be the first QB taken in either of the next 2 draft classes. Looking great.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s better.

Like several of us have said, if football fans watched other QBs with as critical an eye as they watch their own, there would be a lot less bitching on fan forums. Imagine being a Texas fan who thinks Quinn Ewers is a below average P4 QB.

Is he perfect? No. Does he make mistakes? Yes. But he's a shit ton better than most college QBs and makes fewer mistakes than they do, too.

But nobody said they wanted Drew Allar or Riley Leonard. The criticisms of Quinn weren't couched in wanting some other team's QB. We just happen to have a starter and backup that were both considered #1 prospects out of HS. It's a good problem to have I guess. But let's be clear that specifically having Arch Manning on this team is why Quinn gets more heat from Texas fans. Is that fair? Maybe not. Is it understandable? Yes, IMO.

FTR, I think Quinn will play his best tomorrow and lead us to victory. But the chest puffing because some dipshit QBs for PSU and ND sucked is dumb.

Multiple dipshits posting various statistical rankings of playoff QBs and using it as a data point against Ewers deserve it.

I missed those posts, fair enough.

One thing I'll say is this has to be worst year of college QB play I can remember. Maybe some end up being great NFL QBs down the line. But absolute dogshit this season.

It’s almost as if a good number of the QBs at some of the highest profile places are 4th 5th and even 6th year guys that if they were really badass would have already been in the league (looking at you Will Howard ,Dillon Gabriel, et al)

#22973
I’m watching Drew Allar and trying to imagine how anyone could possibly think he was the superior QB.

Allar is a guy that (I guess) has the skills and the measurables the NFL wants but he can’t “play” quarterback. He was god-awful tonight. Leonard was much better in the second half but neither of these guys are anywhere close to Quinn when he’s healthy and playing well. Leonard’s running ability adds quite a bit to his effectiveness (I realize I’m not exactly breaking news there).

They have been saying this bullshit this week, all over Sirius XM. Also been saying that tOSU defense is better than ours. I know these analysts go with the flow but it is like none of them actually watch games.

Nobody is puffing their chests out, that's a weird thing to say. The only thing I said is that posts saying Ewers is a below average QB are moronic takes because they are.

And it's also pretty dumb to say he only takes heat because Manning is on the bench; David Ash took heat when Case McCoy was the other option. Ash was easily the only decent option when his brain wasn't scrambled. Message board morons always blame the QB when the offense sputters, well to be fair it's actually all simple football fans it's just that we're on a message board.

And yes, people did say they'd rather have any other playoff QB and that was before the playoffs even started so included those fantastic Jennings and Rourke performances. Just because you didn't say you'd rather have Allar or Leonard doesn't mean nobody did.

So basically you were wrong about everything in your post but at least you say it intelligently unlike others around here.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say OSU’s defense is better than Texas. It’s pretty much accepted that the Horns and Buckeyes are the two best and an argument can be made to list them 1-2 or 2-1 and you’re not entirely wrong.

I believe we played an extra game so our stats reflect that, could be some argument that we allowed more yards. But still, tOSU is not decisively better than ours like what is being tossed around.

Our last two games have affected the rankings more so than playing the CCG.

Texas has the better pass defense, based on opponents pass efficiency. OSU has better run defense based on YPC. Texas is much better at forcing turnovers. OSU has a higher sack rate.

Neither team has faced Murderers Row offensively. OSU has faced more bottom feeders so their defensive stats are slightly inflated relative to Texas. No question that both defenses are outstanding. I’m not sure I can find a solid argument that OSU is better.

glad @Huckleberry has already responded to this because WOW. There's not a single thing correct about that bolded part. Plenty of people complained about QE being one of, if not the, worst QBs in the playoffs and pined over the thoughts of having anyone other than him including but not limited to the QBs from IU, BSU, ASU, SMU, & the 2 that played last night. Basically everyone but Stockton (because no one had seen him play) & maybe Nico. The PFF QB ratings were posted quite often for the board to fondle themselves to while imagining what could be if it weren't for Quinn. Weird what happened when those QBs faced semi-competent defenses.

#22988

I think today's game is monumental for Quinn. If he shows out, he can significantly improve his draft status and silence the critics. Of course, he is going to need his teammates to play their best as well. And for God's sake, please don't crap your pants in the third quarter, Sark included.

Some people used QB ratings to shit on Quinn, fair enough. I didn't take it as people preferring these other QBs to be our starter, just as their argument for Quinn's struggles. Which to Huckleberry's point that I misconstrued, was still a dumb take.

We need the OL to keep Quinn clean today. If we can't then it will be a long day.

I was pretty down on Quinn several times this season. But he’s improved his play so much at the end of the season. Wondering if it wasn’t injuries all along. Still wish he would stop floating the long balls, but I’m feeling good about him having a great game today.

Really it’s the deep middle where Quinn has issues. His sideline fades are often good throws with air under them to a spot. I think the deep ball issue is there but overblown. It’s a problem on deep middle when a safety can get over the top. Unless a defense is running cover 3, there’s not much chance for the safety to get there in time.

It was things like QBR and PFF that had Quinn as one of the worst rated QBs in the playoffs.

this is true. Those QBs ran into top 4 defense (by DFEI), so I dont get the comparison.  I generally hope Quinn plays well. This is going to be the first good defense Texas has faced in these playoffs. The 3 worst defense in the playoffs were Clemson, Boise State, and Arizona State (in that order).

It is really just the traditional post. He can throw a skinny post. He can throw a seam route. He can throw a fade. He can throw deep crossers and deep outs. He can't throw a post. Unfortunately, Sark loves him some post routes and loves to have Quinn throw them.

He's been much improved the last few weeks and I think it's directly attributable to him being as healthy as he's been since the initial injury against UTSA.

He just needs to quit floating over deep middle. If he steps into and delivers a nice pass on a rope he can make the throws but for some reason he tends to like to throw Russell Wilson deep balls.

I don't even care if he doesn't connect on the deep middle throws as long as he doesn't put up moonballs. That allows help to come from greater distances to make a play on the receiver or the ball. This is exactly what happened against ASU and was nearly a season-killer. Throw it out there with authority and hopefully the worst-case scenario is an incompletion. We know he can do it. Just can't have the back-breaking turnovers.
