Not unusual for bad teams to to give hteir back-up a shot late in the year. Well, Tua is going to give Miami a piece-of-his-mind for doing this. I mean this a brain-dead move.

I have a feeling he may need a bull horn to give Miami management a piece of his mind. I would be surprised if they did not cut him, assuming Tua does not take a pay cut. You cannot lock up that kind of money and get Tua production. Miami OL is bad, but Tua is massively overpaid. If they had a five-game winning streak before the Monday loss, why are they benching Tua? I see they are 6-8 and he has 20 TDS but 15 iNTS, so that's not good. Still, his rating is 88.5, which is 'above average.' Why are they benching him? To tank the rest of the season and give Ewers playing time to see if they need to draft another QB.

This is a brain-dead move and gonna have Tua seeing stars. Did Miami get their bell rung? If I was Tua, I would be spaced-out about this. Tua can't remember the last time this was done to someone. They need to get their head-on-straight.

They are firmly out of the playoffs and they need to figure out what the future holds for Ewers. This is a chance to find out. If this is what they are doing, they probably also told Tua this as well.

They're already eliminated for this year. If they cut Tua with a post 6/1 designation then he's a $99 million dead money hit over the next two years ($54 million in '26.) If Ewers is even replacement-level in the final few games then you know you can roll into '26 with him and whatever you find in the FA market for cheap. Then go after another QB in the '27 draft unless Ewers shows promise.

He'll have his head spinning 'cause of this. This is a huge blow-to-the-head for him. He may never get his head screwed on right after this.
December 17Dec 17 Y'all partly right... it's about the head, true enough. But it's not Tua's head, it's the team's head. They're getting Ewers more familiarity with the 1's, and more-so them with him, so when they bring Sark in as the new HC, things will be easier on errybody.

December 17Dec 17 They get the Bengals at home then the Bucs at home. Two trash defenses (trash is being kind to Cincy - they are historically bad). Then @NE who plays good D but can be had. That is to say - favorable close for Quinnothy to show some stuff. Edited December 17Dec 17 by ztejas
December 17Dec 17 Oh hell yeah! Let's go Quinn! Show Derka what you've got! I'm looking forward to the Derka, totally not obsessed, play by play commentary on Sunday.

They were winning a bit with run game and defense but he’s not even a good game manager QB he takes bad sacks and turns the ball over. Hes getting franchise QB money too.

Passer rating is an "old school stat" that doesn't really mean much anymore.

December 18Dec 18 Anyone want to guess the amount of the CTE settlement Tua is going to have in x number of years? I have never seen anyone that should be more protected from himself than him. Go Quinn, glad you didn't bitch and just continued to work.

December 18Dec 18 NFL sucks a fat white man’s hairy unkempt ass, but I’ll watch the dolphins this weekend if I can find it. I was a decent dolphins fan back in the Shula / Marino days and think their unis are all time great with the niners and old school cowboy white and silver unis.

December 18Dec 18 https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/greg-cote/article313761446.html Quote Two teams eliminated from the playoff chase can make for a snoozy afternoon, but here each team’s quarterback drama gives this matchup some odd sizzle. The Dolphins benched Tua Tagovailoa in favor of barely drafted seventh-round rookie Quinn Ewers, while Bengals’ Joe Burrow last week sounded morosely like a guy who either wants out of Cincinnati or out of football altogether. I expect the elite talent Burrow to bounce back big from being shut out last week. I do notexpect much from Ewers, even against a subpar Cincy D. Just as I think Fins coach Mike McDaniel was being silly to say he’s going with the QB who gives Miami “the best chance to win.” Doubting that seriously. Not even sure if Mikey Mac believes that. The switch is nothing but a popularity grab. Miami became a much bigger underdog after the change was announced. (No duh.) As for the game itself, De’Von Achane vs. Cincy’s moribund run-stopping was a definite Miami edge, but one diminished because Ewers starting will enable Bengals to stack the front vs. the run. Also see the strong likelihood of a declarative rebound game by Burrow. Bet line feels a bit fat. Fins at home getting 4 1/2 vs. a bad foe is tempting. But then the reality hits: Joe Burrow vs. Quinn Ewers. Cote posts here as Derka?
