Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins

I don't really understand Sark and crew couldn't improve his lower body mechanics during his time in Austin.  Maybe a pro coach will do it.

Quinn had a personal QB trainer….something Christensen. He worked with Mahomes as well. Have no further knowledge, but wouldn’t be surprise if Christensen was part of the problem.

Quinn has had QB coach since about the time he shed his diapers. I am not sure anyone is going to be able to change his motion at this point. I think it is very ingrained.

^^ The last two years' teams would not have been nearly as accomplished with say.... Swoopes, Heard, Buechele, or Card at QB. I'd debate Sam. Quinn was absolutely a high-floor QB that I think I'll look back on fondly, regardless of his shortcomings. He did not carry his team, he did not "will" his team. His teams were MUCH more talented than any teams to have played on the 40 over the past decade before him. He should be judged accordingly. But, he led, and he performed, most times.

To say Quinn doesn't belong in the NFL is silly and narrow-minded. I've watched Trey Lance and Cooper Rush take snaps for the Dallas Cowboys. I'd take Quinn over either of those guys in a heartbeat. In fact, Sam, Shane and Garrett Gilbert have all been on multiple NFL rosters, to say Quinn isn't even on their level, or the hordes of no-name reserve QBs across the league, is silly. Quinn will be floating around the league 5 years from now and surly posters will still be posting GM-level opinions to the internet.

I still think Buechele would have produced the same record as Ewers. Especially if we are talking about the entire 3 years.

Probably with wins at different spots, but I don’t hate that take.

The weapons Shane vs QE had are certainly way different. The nfl draft agrees.

After this weekend, I hope we can all move on.

IMO, QE did the best he could.  We cannot ask for more at this point (also, `cuz he's fucking gone).

Was he perfect?  No.
Could he have done better?  Yes.
Could any of us have done better?  No.

I hope for his wild success in the NFL.

Historically, the most popular player on Texas football team is almost always QB2. ;)

Fuck yeah!  I already ordered a Trey Owens jersey for my son.

Lulz. Is that the standard now for QB prospects with perfect rankings? "Well sure his career was a mixed bag, but I doubt that any Surly posters would have been an improvement."

Yeah I spent the whole VY era wishing we had played Matt Nordgren more.

Back in 82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.

In this draft analyst’s opinion, I would grade Mahomes as a second-round pick. That is the same grade the NFL draft advisory board gave him. A general manger of a NFC team said they had a fourth-round grade on Mahomes, but felt he had some tools to work with. That same team has a third- to fourth-round grade on Deshaun Watson, a fifth-round grade on Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya, and a second-round grade on Mitch Trubisky. That team is a tough grader, overall. Another NFC team said they had Mahomes low – into Day 3 – and weren’t hot on him as a prospect, but they also have a young franchise quarterback, so they aren’t interested in quarterbacks until the late rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Well shit, if Mahomes missed as many college games as Quinn, some people would have said he probably would have gone undrafted.

Anybody who watched Mahomes in college should have known he was good. I watched their shitty ass team most Saturdays because I couldn't believe the throws he was making. The ball flew out of his hand. It wasn't surprising that he flew up the board into the top 10 after teams had the chance to talk with him.

I was just impressed he was alive after Quandre Diggs turned him into rubble

I heard when he woke up that day the first thing he said was “what the fuck are these uniforms?”

Total kill shot.  And legal since not defenseless as he was a runner.

If I recall correctly, there were a lot of comments about him being a gunslinger that was loose with the football and played in a system that did not prepare him for the NFL. Turned out he was a gunslinger in college, because that was the only chance Tech had to win.

Yep, that was one of his first starts I believe. Q taught him a very valuable lesson that day.

1)quinn never “led” his teams.

2)comparing him to career third stringers who nobody ever wants to see qb’ing their team when he’s supposed to be a 2nd round pick kind of says it all.

But he's more player than talent. He's just not a big kid (6-2 1/8, 214). He's been hurt every year since high school. The arm's very average. There's not a lot of talent there. He's not a starter. He's a distributor. He's a point guard. He ain't going to push it down the field."

"The Texas kid, I wasn't a fan of," an AFC coordinator said. "He can hit short and intermediate, but he's like an all-arm thrower. He never uses his lower body and he's not accurate down the field."

"There's just no juice in his body," an NFC assistant coach said. "He's little. Arm strength lacks. Athleticism lacks. I don't really know the upside of that kid. When you put their film on and (Arch) Manning comes in the game, the ball is just jumping off his hand in comparison."

when shaggy posters say stuff like this they get neg bombed and told that they’re crazy; when nfl scouts say the exact same thing

if quinn ewers played for texas a&m this entire website would be keeling over laughing at the delusional texags posters who swear that QE “led” his team to back to back playoff appearances and that he’s going to be a good pro.

He's going to have a big jump, too, just as far as what's asked of him at the next level. But he's somebody you can see develop, develop, develop and then -- bang!

really? how many successful nfl qb’s have taken this path?

OK, that is USDA Grade A Horse Shit.

1. Quinn was the one of the best texas qbs we've had in a while

2. in the right spot with time Quinn can be a starter in the nfl

3. Quinn can be in over his head and be out of league in a few years

4. Quinn can be a lifetime backup and make a lot of money

this can all be true , either way, thanks for the ride QE and good luck

Hey, you're the guy who predicted Sam would be a failure at college and would never make it to the NFL.

I bet that really rubbed Deshaun the wrong way.

No we all did not. There were quite a few of us warning the rest.

The thing I really loved about Quinn is that over 3 years his deep ball never improved ever he just said fuck it I’ll never normally throw it that far. Even with the combined fastest wide receivers.  Fuck em

Yes.  But a lot of those were Charlie apologists

It wasn't just about Charlie brother. Some people were concerned with the lack of a resume. Dude literally stumbled into Greg Ward. The year before he arrived the previous coach started winning at the end of the season when he moved Ward from receiver to QB. Tom just walked right into that. No one knew if he could recruit, or how he would be without a do it all athlete at QB. Turns out those things were cause for concern.

Ed Oliver didn't hurt, either.

Maybe the receivers were too fast?

Just because a QB didn't make it to the league doesn't mean he wasn't good in college. Greg Ward was like 5'10 180. He was never going to be an NFL guy. You might remember another QB that didn't work out in the NFL but was great in college. His name was Vincent Paul Young Jr.

Jordan Love, Josh Allen, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Steve Young, Rich Gannon, Kurt Warner, Alex Smith

Again, they went 6-2 down the stretch the previous year with Ward playing QB after starting the year 2-3. Ward was already winning at a high clip before Herman got there.

Yea Vince ruined himself.   You basically made the case for Tom to be honest.  He turned a small wide receiver into a qb.  He also won games with Clayton tune.

Vince was fucked over by fisher, salon coaching.  But Vince also hurt himself

OK, that's a bit disingenous.  He was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and a 2-time Pro Bowl selection.  Jeff Fisher did him no favors.

If someone like Sean Payton had gotten ahold of VY I think his NFL career would've gone very differently. Instead he got stuck with a mediocre fucktard as his coach.

Wishing Quinn the best. While he didn't live up to his potential as the #1 recruit in the nation for whatever reasons (injuries included), there is no question that he gave his all for Texas. Good luck in the NFL!

That was the point. The NFL doesn't believe in people for many dumb reasons that are out of control of the player and either never draft them or do them wrong when they do. Doesn't mean the player wasn't good.

You’re comparing Greg ward to Vince young.

Well, not in the sense most people think. Not for an entire game. There were plays and series where he did absolutely lead the team like you think. I just don’t think that’s him. That’s probably a lot less of a concern in the NfL because they’re supposed to be professionals.

The claim was "never".  It's just a beating dealing with these binary black/white points of view when the real world is WAY more complicated than their brains can handle.

And I didn’t think this thread could get any worse

lol yeah, you’re just a bastion of nuance and complexity, and definitely not a lizard brained, reactive, hypersensitive goober who loses his mind at every opposing pov he comes across. (hopefully you’re picking up on my sarcasm because i’m laying it on pretty thick).

it’s pretty hard to lead your team when you’re like the 16th best guy among the 22 starters, and even harder to lead the team when, as a qb, you have zero moxie, are afraid to get hit, and you miss more easy plays than you make something out of nothing. the all time greats- VY, Colt, Street- they were obvious leaders. but even guys like major applewhite, james brown, and sam ehlinger LED their teams- both on the field and off- more than QE ever did. it’s simply not who he is, in any way. so you can keep talking shit and being super emotional in every single post you make, but it won’t change reality. QE was never a guy to lead his team. he’s a lot more simms than applewhite.

I'm saying that Houston already discovered Greg Ward, put him in play, and went 6 and 2 down the stretch before Tom Herman got there. The fact that you didn't know that is why you were so impressed with Tom Herman at UH. Herman had a good 1st year and then when teams had some tape on him the next year he came back to earth but you guys had already bought your tix to the shit show.
