I probably screwed up the part I was trying to quote.

In my opinion this is very difficult to determine.  I do look into the numbers.  The numbers say otherwise.  He gets rid of the ball quickly relative to his peers.  You can contrast that to a guy like Caleb Williams.  His average time to throw in college was rather high.   Certainly he holds the ball longer to extend plays, but then he goes tothe NFL and gets sacked a ton.  From a numbers perspective but also a practical consideration those things are related.  He’s not processing quickly enough to the point of decision.

It cracks me up when messages board  users talk about a QB going through progressions.  One because if your first read is open, you don’t progress tothe next option.  Some time Quinn,  for example, gives the defense a false read himself but throws it where he fully intended to go in the first place.  I can’t say with certainty, but we went to the check down pretty quickly this year.  That’s likely not choice two - by maybe it is or maybe in his mind he legit went thru them all.  Then you’re limited as to knowing what a QB is taught.  Then to prove all that out, there has to be some data to support in my opinion.

Now, I’ve stated on this board that in my opinion at times he’s too quick to throw.  And that could be considered not going thru progressions. But he was decisive.  And presumably he threw because that WR was open enough.

Its merely speculative on my part but feel like he’s better trained than most for the next level.  Now it’s largely about putting in the work and consistency of effort.

What gives you that assumption? 32 NFL teams looked at this dudes tape for 3 years and their opinion was he will be a well below average NFL QB. it’s too late to begin to “put in work”. Every week will be UGA on steroids.

3rd highest playoff TS% of all time, behind Jokic, Kawhi, and AD.  2nd highest EFG% behind Jokic and Kawhi.

Higher than Durant on both metrics.

That's despite a 30% usage rate and almost 40% of team 3PA%.  Curry has had fewer bad playoffs games than Ewers has had good quarters, and you want to latch onto that tiny sample size as testament how good Quinn Ewers is. Unfortunately, NFL wants consistency.

Sark has been an NFL coach of late.  His offense is not gimmicky.  He understands the value in recruiting with respect to guys succeeding at the next level.  He coached a 1st rounder recently.  Sarks resume would indicate there’s some benefit in playing for him to benefit you at the next level.

Injury concerns and footwork inconsistency are dings on his resume that are not necessarily failures to knowing how to play QB.

I’ve never been Ewers biggest fan but taking flyers on some of those other guys over him is odd.  And a number of teams were not in the market for a QB.

Except the way the offense looked when arch was starting, which is what sarks offense actually looks like. He runs a video game offense with insane players that create mismatches all over the field.

I think if he benched Ewers for real, not the takeout benching of Georgia, Quinn would have had a mental breakdown and it would have adversely affected the entire team, the locker room, and potentially recruiting opportunities. It also would have pissed off quite a few donors, sponsors etc, but I don't think sark gives a shit about that.

Quinn was too fucking distraught to properly celebrate being drafted and getting a chance at his life long dream of playing in the NFL, that should tell you everything you need to know about his mental resilience.

Shedeur Sanders acted like he went number 1 overall, not as an act, but because he was actually that fucking stoked to make it in the NFL despite what was going on. It was nonstop shadeur is sliding coverage and memes about him.

Some of you need to take the orange glasses off and see this for what it is.

This was my original statement.  It does not conflict with your comment really.  You could even add that he’s been on bigger stages than many of these other draftees, which should provide for better training too.

Im not weighing in on whether he will succeed but rather saying that his past 3 years have better prepared him for the NFL than others.

Watching Arch’s  highlights and something that really stood out to me was how hyped Wingo, Bond and Golden when Arch would have them make a play. Play making is contagious Arch seem to excel at that, pushing the ball down the field even if it meant he had to take a hit compared to Quinn who seemed to just want to drive the bus.

Yes, Quinn's cool and calm demeanor had its place, but Arch will bring a fire that will ignite this offense IMO.

Just can't wait to see him dropping bombs all over the place with the speedy WR's

Now he'll need to learn when NOT to throw the deep ball...which he struggled a bit with against Miss ST I think. But he'll get it.

Genuine question: Is this thread fun for you?

back when i was getting neg bombed, told i was a piece of shit, and had people asking the mods to ban me because i used stats, facts, and empirical evidence to show that quinn was mid? no.

now, 18-24 months later, going back and reading all of those same people making an ass of themselves and losing their ever loving minds over an opinion of mine where i’ve since been proven right and vindicated?

i’m not sure what world some of y’all live in, but if you’re gonna be a huge piece of shit to someone over something so benign as a differing opinion (and then at the end of the day have you be proven wrong) then you deserve any comeuppance that comes your way. and i’m using kid gloves right now. don't start none won’t be none; fuck around and find out. funny how this site loves to use those mantras until it’s y’all who decide to fuck around and start some.

I found him to be more of a deer in the headlights, bordering on a Bert Auburn psyche, but rarely seeing adversity because of his outstanding defense, linemen, and skill players. He can make plays, has an outstanding arm, but I never felt like he had the "it" factor which is why 4th and 13 felt so surreal (until you realize it was his fault we needed "heroics" against *checks notes* an Arizona State team that we were supposed to have blown out).

I think he has enough talent that his ceiling is higher than what Colt's NFL career ended up being, but also enough question marks based on his mindset and his injuries that the likeliest outcome is gonna be nearer his floor (or at least, that's how most GMs feel and I don't blame 'em for that, but I also disagree that some of the clowns drafted ahead of him are better pro prospects at QB).

I mentioned during the season that the team responds differently to Arch. You can see it. Pretty sure some posters had an excuse and told me I was imagining it.

Put me in the camp that was surprised QE dropped as far as he did.  I don't think likely he's ever a starter in the NFL but thought someone would take a flyer in the 4th or 5th.  I think he can be a really good backup QB.  You don't need your backup QB to necessarily go out and win games.  You need a backup that can manage a game, keep you afloat and not flat out single handedly lose games if the starter is out for 2-4.   Quinn can absolutely do that and durability shouldn't be as much of a concern when not expected to start 17 per year.

That seems a bit of a reach.  There are plenty of hyped up QBs who succeed in the NFL.  Even so, Arch doesn't seem like the Baker Mayfield type, but even Baker found his landing spot.

yeah, VY had a cool and calm demeanor. QE seemed like he was just going through the paces, like a bored HS student, mindlessly going through their day. it was never like, “oh he stays so calm”, it was more like, “he seems like he could take or leave being our qb right now.”

the weirdest thing about this is that i only recall QE ever showing fire or leadership one time, and it’s when he was injured, and he got the troops on the sideline all hyped up while arch was actually on the field balling. i was like, “wtf is that? i’ve never seen him show emotion like that.” don’t think i ever saw it again.

I’m happy for Quinn getting drafted into the NFL, it’s not an easy feat. But for a guy who was a 1.000 5-star recruit QB for the Texas Longhorns, I don’t understand the crying at being drafted  in the 7th round. I know it’s the culmination of a lifelong dream, but Quinn was crying like he got picked in the Top 10. I would think he’d be pissed and stoic getting picked so late with all the hype surrounding his career. Part of me thinks he was crying at the relief of not going undrafted. Those 2 FCS QB picks by Pete Carroll at the end of the 6th round must’ve been a dagger for him.

it looked to me like he was devastated. that looked like sad, ugly crying. i don’t think he cries at all if he’s a first or second round pick. that dude was crushed.

Seems I recall one instance where, prior to the "playoffs", prior to the GA debacle, where Quinn was on the mend, still treading gingerly, when he finally took off on an unscripted run, showed surprising quickness and picked up a big first down. He jumped up shaking his fist.

I waited the rest of the season to see him do that again, and he never did, especially inside the ten against Ohio State. Ten fucking yards and relatively open path to the end zone when a  defender's reaction time is what, a quarter of a second before their brain even registers that he's running... Back to Vince Young against USC. They never had a chance.

Give me speed and quickness, i.e., Arch Manning.

Quinn himself has said he didn't really approach the position with the right work ethic the way he should have initially. Strength and conditioning in particular were weak points for him and had he approached that more seriously early on, he might have been more resilient and less prone to injury. I've also always had the impression that he was a bit coddled and unaccustomed to tough standards. True of a lot of kids these days (insert curmudgeon comments here). His drop to late 7th round pick may well be the biggest reality check he's ever experienced. If he takes the right approach and earnestly applies himself addressing his weaknesses, he may yet overcome them and achieve success in the NFL. Not a prediction on my part, but I hope he does.

I think he was in disbelief he dropped that far and had been living through an emotional nightmare for several hours on day 3 only for it to finally resolve.  I think partially crushed, partially relieved, just a ton of anxiety relief/lots of emotions hitting at once.  Pretty understandable IMO.

Quinn always came across as aloof, both on the field and with the media.  The only time I recall being surprised at him was the Gruden piece.  Whatever you think of Gruden or those interviews, Quinn was a completely different guy -- relaxed, comfortable in his skin, funny.  I don't know why we didn't see that guy more, but maybe it's just the difference between one on one and dealing with groups.  (I'm no psychologist, I won't diagnose.)

I said put in the work AND consistency of effort.

He has been humbled at this point.  Maybe for the first time.  For me personally, there was once a time in my life when I worked reasonably hard at a goal.  But I did it in the wrong manner.  So perhaps now he can become more focused.  He has the opportunity.  I believe he landed in a good environment.  He will either succeed or not.

There's been lots of references to him at his best - Michigan, Bama.  So, yeah, there’s a point at which his preparation could lead to more consistency and provide him a legit chance of success and repeat those performances.

Going all the way back to 2022, I have not been short of criticism.  I’ve been consistent too.  But I haven’t limited what his upside is.  That’s where I sit today.

Is Quinn keeping the same agent? If he doesn’t get better representation then he shouldn’t expect better results. I was worried for Quinn when I saw his Hulu commercial and realized the other guy in the commercial with him was his agent. Shit like that plus @Thatguy saying how miserable Quinn was because he was being treated horribly by Texas fans made me think that he has bad representation and is having so much smoke being blown up his ass that it’s going to cause a dumpster fire with his stock in the draft.

Yes. Quinn needs to walk into Miami camp without his family, agent or QB trainer being a major influence anymore. Blank slate, start from scratch with McDaniel and the Dolphin coaching staff.

Could be.   I do not know the answer regarding his agent.

i do not necessarily get the sense that the voices in his ear have ever been great.  I view Sark and crew as positives but beyond that I don’t know.    I wouldn’t trust that treaty oak fella at all.

Everything except the deep ball.  It was HORRENDOUS.  I watched Arkansas and Kentucky today on the TxClips channel and he wasn’t even close multiple times.  Everything else looked pretty fucking great to be honest.  He has got to work with someone to fix that because it was the sole reason we didn’t just annihilate most of our competition.

Aloof is the wrong word. That implies an "I'm better than you" attitude that I don't think QE really embodied.  I think it's possible he's just a quiet introvert in a world that rewards brash extroverts (especially in leadership-oriented positions).  I think he hews closer to Tim Duncan attitude-wise (not skill obviously).

Tim Duncan was a fucking stone cold killer - what are you talking about? Tim Duncan was one of the most locked in professional athletes of all time, to the point that he was called "the big fundamental". He was just a bit stoic because he isn't (even in his personal life) a very loud/vocal person.

"This site" is not down on Ewers. A meaningful minority of posters are down on Ewers, but most of them are in the "good guy but ultimately disappointing" camp. I'm in the pro-Ewers camp, but I have no problem with the people who are disappointed in him. Dude never realized his full potential and had several holes in his game, so I get the frustration.

But an even smaller minority of that minority are genuinely rooting against the guy and are thrilled by how low he went in the draft. They like that because it proves them "right" and they would rather feel vindicated than have good things happen to one of the top QBs to play at Texas. That's why I would say it's not a CR thing - the CR shit is just another justification they can toss on to their "feel good" pile, but if it wasn't that it would be something else.

Those are the people who are so down on Ewers. Don't lump the rest of us in with them.

When did he ever hit a guy in stride on any throw? Even the check downs were thrown in a way where the receiver had to adjust to the dump off.

Too bad he never moved. He is not even close to “throwing on the move or off balance” and his throws were never in the breadbasket or in a position where his man wasn’t getting rocked to make the catch.

This is just patently false.  There are multiple examples of him flawlessly leading Blue on checkdowns for nice chunks.

This is also untrue.  Again, there are multiple examples.

This play was an absolute disaster, but that was a weird game regarding ball security.  Blue and Bolden both fumbled twice and Brown fumbled the ball once on a kick return for Kentucky when nobody touched him.
