just shows that any qb learning under sark is gonna have to deal with a developmental glass ceiling before getting to the league.  nfl coaching will unlock quinn’s true potential.

This is terrible bait, even for you

Sark has done an exceptional job at letting people around him within the program and in his network help him. I think when he takes over and does too much, that's when the wheels start to come off now.

Quinn was a lot of things, but clutch wasn't really one of them.

Sam legitimately took over a game against the future national championship LSU team to the degree that the ogre not only acknowledged it but praised Sam.

Yeah.  Sam had "it."  Vince did, Colt did, even the far less talented Case did.  A way to play better than your best when it mattered most.  Quinn didn't.

Tua is basically a vegetable at this point, going to come down to whether or not he can beat out Zack Wilson

Another good day for Quinn. Note that he's working with the third team.

Quote

Quinn Ewers had a chance to return to college for far more money than he’s making as an NFL seventh-round pick, but it appears the former Texas starter is proving he belongs in the NFL.

Ewers, the former University of Texas starter who got dislodged by Arch Manning, had his second strong practice of Miami’s first five on-field days.

In the final 11-on-11 period of this red zone day Ewers threw three straight touchdowns passes in his three reps.

Each throw was so impressive that Tua Tagovailoa and other members of Miami’s offense erupted, and cheered him on after each play.

At this rate it’s possible Ewers could eventually push Zach Wilson for the backup quarterback role if he continues dealing a hot hand.

Here’s a breakdown of what else happened in Day 5 of training camp.

Top performers

▪ Quarterback Quinn Ewers is clearly beginning to grasp the Dolphins offense and develop chemistry with his back-end-of-the-roster teammates. The rookie has begun to make throws to elicit a head nod, impressing his teammates. It will be interesting to see his progression as he continues to gain comfort in this offense.

I have a bad feeling this is going to start to read like the Ukraine war thread.

Gruden lit up when he interviewed Quinn.  Sure felt like he thought Quinn was the most mentally prepared QB he interviewed.  I won't be shocked if he ends up having the longest career and is the most successful out of all that were drafted last year.  I'm sure someone can fix his deep ball issues in the pros.  Maybe I'll be wrong.

They gave Wilson $6 million guaranteed. IMHO this is about whether or not it's worth keeping a third QB or risking Quinn being claimed off of waivers if he continues to play well and stays healthy.

He's going to get substantial playing time in the preseason games to prove that he's worth keeping, but this is a guy who was injured within the first 3 games 2 of the 3 years he was here.

I don't think anyone is going to fix that, but I can definitely see him as a longtime backup in the NFL.  He does enough things well for that role.

With Tua in front of Ewers, he'll be called upon rather quickly.

I dont know, they are preparing nicely in Miami for him with equipment changes.

The problem with QE being a great fit for McDaniels’ system is that if he has to play much McDaniels  is probably getting fired.

I hope the best for him. He is in a no lose situation given the two guys in front of him.

@BurntOrange&White

How many times have we heard and seen him have great practices only to shit himself in games. Why are you so offended over a guy who underachieved for us?

Jesus Christ, just stop.  It's 2025.  Ignore the Dolphins, watching them clearly just brings up your past trauma.

Thank you!

It's like he's waiting for some magical award to be given to him.

I mean, I'm not a Ewers pom pom cheerleader, but he did help us make the semis two years in a row. That's all I've got. Imagine if we had Hudson Card instead...

If Tua’s brain had a sock this thread is right on track.

people acting like UT football just stacks championships. one title in my lifetime, thank you VY and Coach Mack, and one hell of  team / coaching staff

going to back to back semis in the playoff era is pretty damn impressive for UT football. Hopefully they take it further this season

They also forgot how fucking awful we have been in the QB position throughout the past 10+ years.  The only school fucking up the QB spot worse than us was aggy, because they had talented guys and couldn't keep them.

vy / colt were the ut golden years in my lifetime (honorable mention to soul brother #1, james brown). so they've had a looooooot qb misses

So let’s check in on some of the QBs selected before Quinn. Did some googling to see how everyone else is doing.

Ward - doesn’t matter he was first overall and will start. Titans will ride or die with him.

Dart - has been inconsistent and is behind Russ. They didn’t take him in the first round to ride pine so he needs to get his shit together. Has been better lately but looks like the G-men will let Russ cook (and give them food poisoning) to start the year.

Shough - has been terrible. Had some moments today but the Aints are thinking about trading for Trey Lance. I’m not kidding. He’s been running out of bounds taking sacks instead of throwing the ball away. In shorts.

Keep in mind these three were selected where they were to compete for the starting jobs.

Others:

Milroe - haven’t seen much but the reports are what you’d expect - great arm, fast, questionable decisions.

Gabriel - not doing well. Sheduer had a boo boo today so he got extra reps and sucked. I think Sheduer beats him out.

Sheduer - just go to ESPN. He’s done well but against mostly 3rd teamers, but has apparently done better than Gabriel when given his chance.

Will fucking Howard - believe it or not, he’s been looking good for the Stillers. Had some growing pains like Quinn but has been consistent.

Anyway if anyone has better info than this by all means share.

Fuck it I want Quinn to start the first preseason game and go 10-14 210 yds 3 tds

This is the kinda stuff that gets me fired up.  It also confuses me a bit.

I am for defending a guy as I’ve done many a time here.  But it’s not often at the expense of others.

Sam and Beuchele both got NFL roster time.  I critiqued Casey Thompsons near 400 yard, 5 TD performance versus OU.  Last I recall he had 3 of the top 10 single game TD pass games.  Card led some end of game go ahead or game tying drives only to have others falter.  M. Murphy was 3-0 in games he finished.  A few of these guys were under the tutelage of Tom Herman’s choosing.

In substitution of Ewers the past 3 years, those guys replicated the win percentage.  Those guys also went elsewhere and didn’t replicate their numbers or win percentages.  It’s almost like all the variables matter.

If you want to imagine these other QBs, you need to imagine them with a stable offensive system with the same coaching staff with first round pass catchers and highly draftable secondary receivers, a more mature offensive line and a top 10 defense every damn year.  I mean I’d kinda prefer a Jake Majors in his 4th year in the system versus Jake Majors in his 1st year in the system.  Or a Christian Jones in his 2nd year at RT (3rd year in system) versus year 1 at LT (1st year in system).

But that’s hard to do cause if you were 125 years old, you’ve only seen that shit the last two years at the University of Texas.

Now with respect to Ewers today, he’s got his NFL prospects all in front of him.  I believe Sark and crew prepared him better than most QBs are prepared.  He can succeed. I’ve commented on two throws with him on the Dolphins - one was likely piss poor DB play whereas the other was one that is really limited company as far as the number of QBs can do that.

Much of QBing is being in the right place at the right time.  Ewers was.  None of the others were.  The environment and surrounding pieces were so different it’s not even comparable.

Thompson and Card absolutely do not replicate the win percentage

This sort of nuanced respectful take has no place here you piece of shit

Healthy Quinn was a very good college QB.  He did not play well nicked up.  Injured Quinn was average.

He is either injury prone or cannot play hurt well.
