Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins

It's also easier to be happy with a guy you took in the 7th for pennies on the dollar. If he's worth a damn then you've already surpassed expectations.

The problem that part of me can't shake is that Ewers is probably going to get hurt this season. I understand why he didn't go in the 1st, but I think the reason he dropped as far as he did is because his injury report said "DO NOT DRAFT" across the top in big red letters. His fragility is the issue, and that won't rear its head until the non-contact jersey comes off. Ewers is a tough kid and will play through injuries, but when he plays hurt is when his game falls apart.

The Dolphins are only going to be happy with him long term if he can stay healthy.

Agree that injuries in 2024 and 2025 seriously hurt his draft stock, but performance, even if while hurt, also factors in to the equation.

Agree that getting him that late and making the 53 would be a huge win for Quinn and the Dolphins.

I really don't see him getting a ton of snaps in 2025 at QB3 so injury is obviously less likely. However, given health issues ahead of him certainly not impossible.

I just looked. The entire AFC in 2024 had 3 QBs on the 53 man.

League rules permit the Broncos and other teams to dress an emergency third quarterback on game days and not have them count towards the active roster.

Saw this referenced in an article about Sam.  Not sure if that means the active roster + plus 1 QB each week but assume so.

——————————————

So they have to be on the 53 man roster but can suit out as the 49th player of the 48 active player roster as long as 1 and QBs are active.

Per my sources in corroboration with

sources and also

sources, there are many within the Dolphins organization that believe the Tua/Ewers situation could be eerily similar to the Purdy/Jimmy G situation from years back. The comparisons are obvious with Ewers being a 7th round pick like Purdy and Tua being an often-injured average NFL talent like Jimmy G. Also the similar offenses that are more play-caller driven than carried by the actual QB Apparently a lot of people are taking notice of Quinn Ewers very strong camp 😳👀

You realize who their starting QB is, right?

NFL dudes, do most teams carry 2 QBs on their 53-man roster?  Would 3 be unusual?  (This presumes Quinn would be #3, but maybe he has a shot at #2.)  It would seem to me that with Tua's injury history there might be incentive to go QB-heavy, but I don't know the intracacies of pulling a guy off the practice squad.

depends on their cap space and salaries

THIS is how you troll.

(Quinn has exceeded expectations but he’s not playing unless both Tua and Zach get hurt.)

Quinn landed in the BEST possible location. Fuck getting drafted a few rounds earlier if he had landed with the wrong coach or coordinator or a QB lineup that guarantees he won’t get noticed. Purdy is the goal for anyone drafted late and it should motivate him to work his ass off. Which he appears to be doing. His success will be based on his hard work and preparation and consistency.  He got LUCKY the Dolphins selected him imo. I look where most of QBs drafted much earlier went and many are likely to be forgotten. Truly practice QBs at best.  I would love to see what QE can do healthy. Praying he will stay that way. Dolphins are a fairly easy team to root for.

it will be a lot of fun watching the preseason this year for sure! 🤘🏼

I actually think if one of the two late picks hit-- Miami will get re-graded and had the best draft of 2025!

Kenneth Grant will be great. I like Jason Marshall Jr. and Ollie Gordon II and Quinn at the back end of the draft have higher upsides than anyone taken that late (or in the middle rounds IMO).

Gordon had some of the worst body language I’ve ever seen in the CCG vs us.  Bad year last year too; not buying him until I see the attitude pick up.

If you hit on a 7th round QB, you can bust at every other pick and still have a great draft.

Let's say hypothetically Ewers is Brock Purdy or Brock Purdy-lite, I think they took some better players and could have one of the best drafts in the last few years, much less just 2025.

For reference SF's 2022 draft:

It never fails. The most popular guy in the team is the backup QB. Until he gets meaningful playing time.

Well except when your backup is Arch Manning and your starter is Quinn.
Personally I was calling for Owens second half Georgia

There were times in that game when we’d been better off punting on 3rd and long.

Dolphins Bears on NFL network now.

Tua on the sidelines. Zach Wilson in. No sign of QE yet.

Wilson looks like shit. This seems good for Ewers.

Looking to see Ewers whoe second half...

That last drive. Oof.

I'm thinking Wilson so bad that Coach wants to see more confirmed shittiness.

Don't know if it was clickbait but I know I saw a push on my phone this morning that said Wilson was currently #2, Ewers #3 (quote from the coach).

Fumbled. Very reminiscent of aggy game in terms of loose ball security.

Ewers looks identical to his time at Texas. Even the strip sack.

I had the same thought. Didnt hate the guy, but ready to see what Sark can do with higher upside.

Lack of pocket presence / awareness.   Not going to change.

Still learning to read NFL defenses, but his instincts are still pretty bad

I'm actually going to defend Ewers on that strip sack. Anyone who has paid attention to my comments on him, knows I don't typically pull punches criticising him. But that protection broke down very quickly on his blind side and he really didn't have another direction to go than he did. Stumbling for sure hurt him there, but understandable given the circumstances. Hope he gets another series and opportunity to show better.

Didn't get to see any of the other plays, so can't comment on those.

Wow. That penalty just shows the impossible position the defender was in. He did the only thing he could to prevent the receiver from converting the first, at the expense of defenseless receiver penalty. Complete BS.

Only one good throw but they got the fg to tie it up after chi scored the td

He has to have a better showing the rest of the pre-season if he wants to be in the roster unless they decide to keep 3 QBs.

Miami is keeping 3 qb’s because Tua can’t finish a season

That doesn't mean Quinn has to be one of them.

I've seen worse debuts but I've seen better. Not bad for a 7th rounder
