Adventures with Purpose YouTube Channel is worth your time

YouTube recommended this channel Adventures with Purpose (AWP) to me about 4 years ago.  It was just a couple of guys who liked diving on things underwater to help clear lakes/ rivers of sunken man made items (abandoned cars, sunken boats, shit tossed off a bridge, etc.) lots of insurance scam car dumps out there.

that was, until 2019 when they dove underneath a bridge, and found several abandoned cars, including 1 vehicle that still had its license plate, which showed as a missing person plate from several years earlier.

They called the cops and the car was towed out of the water, with the missing drivers remains inside.  That video triggered something- there were tons of replies where it turned out this missing person lived very close to that bridge, that the cops hadnt used underwater sonar to look for them, and it was pure luck that the guys were able to find it.

but, thats where the guys realized they had a skill that they might be able use.  being able to sonar underwater, and dive on targets, maybe finding a missing person and collecting the "missing" reward.  It originally started as a for profit project, and they asked their channel to provide super cold missing person cases, and if someone would pay for their gas and lodging they would drive anywhere in the US to look.

originally the police departments were highly pissed off at these guys (being upstaged by amatuers)- even though AWP knew if they found a missing persons car, to not touch anything and call the cops and let them tow it.

very quickly AWP went from for profit- to donations only to pay for their gas and upkeep.  and they found several other missing persons in 2019 and early 2020.

The AWP guys do hard research of where the person was last seen, most likely going to, and seeing the places in between that a car could be lost (always a river/lake/quarry/pond, etc), they then pick the most likely spots, sonar the area ( which takes HOURS), they can only travel at about 2.5MPH with the sonar.  so going back and forth can take days.  but  every so often,  they found an occasional missing person.

then during the pandemic with no one being able to do much, their popularity exploded as their channel was all about helping find cold cases. Lots of empty searches, a few successful ones, but these guys gained major experience on every dive, and by now, in late 2022, they might honestly be the most experienced "shallow" underwater search and dive team in the US.

all of their searches prior to a few weeks ago were at least 6+ months old (several were 20+ years).  They just found a missing 16 year old girl who had only been missing for 2-3 weeks where she partied right next to a water rec area. despite the cops searching the water over and over and over again, they missed the car.  These guys found it in a day.

they have found 24 missing people in 3 years volunteering their time and expertise to help.  almost all of those people have families that have been wondering  where they were for months/years.   I think its a noble effort.

The algo recommended them to me about a year ago.  I didn't like/comment/subscribe or anything, but it's an interesting channel.

The case where they found Nikolas Allen and how the sheriff treated them and the missing kids family was rage inducing

My YouTube zen is Jim Baird canoe videos. I dont think he has committed any horrible crimes - he's Canadian.
