I’ve heard good things. Are they ok for working out/running in? Or just standing around in trainers looking dad-like in non matching khakis?

Well they're running shoes...  I don't think I'd do a HIIT workout in them...  but holy hell they are:

  • cushy and comfortable
  • expensive
  • garish (but then again, I don't have non matching khakis)

Lot's of Dr types wear them because they are on their feet all day.

I like the Bondi 7s.  And for concerts, you'll also get a 1" of height or so...  I told you they are cushy

I wore a pair of Iron Rangers to a concert once. Once!

Hiit is what I do, so...

Which, as an aside, I did yesterday and then went to pound my feet against the hard hard concrete of the State Fair last evening.  So my dogs are hella barkin'!

Cushy and comfortable was ruining my feet. With these I could tell they supported better, I could feel them pushing up into my soles.

I saw Weezer along with Dinosaur Jr. and The Flaming Lips at Moody Center. Had a blast, great show.

Wife scored tickets to Turnpike and CCRagweed at Boone Pickens in April. Whole damn city is booked up though. Guess we'll be staying in OKC or Tulsa.

What time did she get into queue and how long did it take her? I got in right at 10 and 1.5 hours in I wasn't even halfway through.

She got some sort of special deal where she got an early jump on the queue. Don't ask me how it works.

Just saw Night Traveler at Club Dada in Dallas on Friday night.  They played 17 songs which fucking kicked ass.

Gonna see Forester next Saturday after we play OU.

Norah Jones 10/10.

Soul Asylum 10/17.

Levitation 11/02.

Are you seeing Norah Jones at the ACL taping?  I put my name in the hat, but I guess I didn't make the cut.

I'll be at the soul asylum show.

Yup, ACL.  We get tix thru work.  I rarely jump on them, but I've never seen her.

I'm still trying to figure out who to see for Levitation.

Will hit up BALTHVS at Waterloo this Friday.

DJ Shadow later in the month

Also, may jump on Blockhead...

Levitation I've got:

Thur: Strange Lot/Mdou Moctar/Black Angels

Fri: Osees

Sat: Iguana Death Cult/Death Valley Girls/Wine Lips

Sun: The Well/Rickshaw Billies/Pentagram/The Sword

RE: Levitation

I would recommend checking out Meatbodies on Friday and Teenage Mortgage on Saturday.

I could have sworn I heard that The Sword split years ago, but I keep seeing them on bills.  Is this a temporary thing or are they full-time again?

I can tell you how she got her "special deal"...

they broke up in 2022. levitation is the first show they're playing since the break-up. no idea if it's permanent, haven't seen any other dates announced.

St Paul and the Broken Bones tomorrow night here in SA at stable hall. I think they’re playing at the fair grounds Saturday if they’ve cleaned up all the sooner blood and guts and shit.

Anyways, they’re a fun show. Stable Hall actually has a few Austin centric or just 90s/00s shows coming I might go see soon. Bob Schneider. Old 97s with Fastball. Dawes. Better than Ezra.

alessandro cortini last night at central presbyterian church downtown. he's a touring member of NIN and makes ambient electronic music. if you've ever done a sound bath, it was a remarkably similar experience. he layered simple beats and ambient droning noises on top of one another to create very dense soundscapes that ultimately pulsed into a thundering crescendo. there were some abstract trippy visuals in the background but otherwise complete darkness, it was mesmerizing. almost a hallucinogenic feel to the weird zone that your brain goes into listening to that sort of music. i loved it.

Norah Jones was good, not great, at last night's ACL taping.  The sound in the room was off -- her vocals came across as thin, as did the bass.  I assume they'll fix that in the mix when the show is broadcast.

She did a lot of her early hits, but mostly recast them into a different vibe, which was cool.  I don't need to hear the radio mix of "Come Away With Me", etc.  The band didn't feel like they were completely gelling, which was surprising, it was the first time I've ever seen Brian Blade (drums) live, and he definitely has a unique, loping groove that doesn't rely on traditional styles.  Hey, who am I to argue with one of the greatest drummers on the planet?  Her backing singer was great, absolutely pitch perfect, and funny to boot.  Norah played a pretty mean guitar on several songs, but of course her piano chops are unassailable.  Her vocals were also dead on.

In short, she remains a massive talent, cool as hell, funny and unpretentious.  I'm glad I finally got to see her.  Next up, Soul Asylum.  That one might be a bit different.

Avett Brothers last night at Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land.  First time to that venue and I was impressed.  Tickets were center stage in the very back row and the sound was fantastic.  One of the best TAB shows we've seen.  Going to NYC to see Swept Away next month...

Good to hear. Seeing them tonight (won tix for the ACL taping). I was a pretty big fan 10-15 years ago but haven’t kept up. Taking my 16yo to her first taping.

Picked up tickets to see Annabelle Chairlegs in a tiny dive bar in Portland, The Fixin' To.  I would have thought she'd play a bigger room.  This one holds about 50 people.

I believe she's an Austin girl.  Anyone know her?

I developed a massive crush on her after seeing the video for Tolls (to see me).

Not a "she", it's a band.  The girl's name is Lindsey.  I don't know her, but I believe the band moved to Austin from New Mexico.

Ah, right.  Duh.  I knew that.  Thanks for reminding me.  I have a crush on Lindsey - not the band.

Going to see ELO tomorrow night at the Moody Center.  It’s been awhile since I’ve attended a concert (I’m an old) and I am PUMPED!!  I’m so old that I attended the first concert at Memorial Stadium with ZZ Top, Bad Company (w/Jimmy Page), Santana, and Joe Cocker on Labor Day 1974.  It was easily the worst organized concert I’ve ever attended. When the ruling idiots opened the gates that morning there was an ugly stampede by the crowd and people were getting crushed against the iron rail fencing around the stadium.  There was no food or drink and a LOT of sun.   After about four hours outside, my GF and I staggered inside the stadium and waited in a very long line for water out of a spigot in the wall.  College students (the university’s student government) put that concert together and it showed.  Dehydration, sunstroke, and a very drunk Joe Cocker barfing on the front row of the crowd were some of the bad vibes that day.  Good vibes:  Great music and epic partying.  Tickets were $8.  What a great time to be alive.

They're awesome.  They'll be playing Levitation this year.  And, yeah, she's got "it"

if they are doing that venue, perhaps a surprise show at Nuge's backyard setup to follow? It will likely make her fall in love with you if my calculations are correct.

Big weekend in Philly with Orville Peck on Friday and Fontaines D.C. on Sunday. I might experiment with not drinking for Fontaines so I can get a GA spot early and just stay put. They're such an awesome live show (Orville too but we have seats for him)

You know what? I'm gonna shoot my shot and see what happens.

Maybe I'll walk out of the show with a date to put on this flyer.

People will hold your spot for you to go get drinks. Just be friendly and ask if they'll hold your spot while you grab a drink.

Did we talk about live-streaming your shows?

It was mentioned but I forgot about it and didn't follow up.  I'll have to look into it.  It would be great if I could have a (cheap) multi camera set-up.

I'd kick in some $ to stream a show or ten.

Pre-gaming with my son right now, about to head over, gonna be a good one

I haven't been to any of the gameday shows (Longhorn City Limits) -- are they right at the LBJ Fountain?

Considering seeing Air perform Moon Safari in a couple weeks.

Would be after a long weekend but I'll regret not going.

Soul Asylum was pretty solid last night at Mohawk.  Juliana Hatfield opened, and pretty much just played her 1992-93 era songs.  Her mix was unbalanced and quiet, really unfortunate.

SA got the whole PA, it wasn't the best I've seen them but it may be the best lineup in terms of instrumental skill.  Almost nothing pre-hit, was not ideal, but I get it.  Dave Pirner should not tell "jokes".  I'm curious to hear what @Jerry Callo thought.
